In fairness Rayner isn’t calling for him to step down, just to be more radical. Which I for one can agree with.

Me too. I just wish he had done it from the start.

The Streeting story is a repeat from a few months ago

Couldn't agree more. It's laughable that some on MN think the current Government is 'hard Left'.
I'd like to see the government implement some Left wing policies. (OK they are slowly renationalising the railways...)

Oh, is it? I didn't realise. There is so much going on and so much being reported it is hard to keep track.

I think one thing that Labour really need to do is to look at UC elements. It may stop the disgraceful benefit bashing we see. Kemi and her benefits street etc..
At present if you are buying a house ( paying a mortgage) but on a low salary you don’t get any support. I get that in theory why should the tax payer pay your mortgage but when we look at add ons such as free school meals and access to Crisis funding etc. The pretence that everyone on benefits is raking it in would be calmed a bit I think.
It absolutely is unfair if you are on £36k as a couple with one child and paying a mortgage of £600 you get £300 less a month than a renter in the same position and FSM and don’t need to pay if your boiler breaks, roof falls off. I can see that will make people cross.
Yes I get that there is an asset at the end of the day but it doesn’t help child poverty, fuel poverty and COL right now.
I hate that those people who need benefits are absolutely smeared relentlessly. A bit of support at the lower end home owners eg send your p60 to your local council and you can have free school meals would seen to be a help, it wouldn’t cost ££££ either. I would say exactly the same with pensioners who are getting a fiver too much for Pension credit too.
Labour need to be better, be more radical and look wider. I am devastated that it has gone to shit for them. 😞

Some rubbish "News headlines" today straight to my phone.
When you actually read the articles things are really being taken out of context.
A load of old cobblers.
I expect to see Ms West stepping away tomorrow from her alleged challenge.
Sir Keir will be extremely disappointed in her. She's let the party down, she's let herself down and worst of all , she is letting the country down. IMO.
A "trumped up" leadership challenge is the last thing the UK needs in this challenging time we are living through.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 10/05/2026 19:22

I agree! The news has been utterly bonkers since Friday and tbh I feel like Mrs West has acted dreadfully

So we can add him to the list of Reform councillors who have gone/changed parties…
Clearly they wouldn’t have suspended him left to themselves.

And he still has his seat. Just not under Reform., for the moment.

They will start on whoever succeeds him - oh, they already have so no surprises there!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 11/05/2026 07:19

Just read this on another benefits bashing thread (from someone complaining about the 40 % tax bracket) after it was pointed out that the tax rates are the same as under 14 years of Tory rule
A lot of people consider the Conservatives from Cameron onwards as a quasi socialist movement. Hence the rise of Reform.
I nearly spat my tea out 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

PickAChew · 11/05/2026 07:27

Gaslighting is a key feature of propaganda. I think we're going to see a lot more of it, unfortunately.

Telegraph also busily smearing Polanski. They really are terrified of him.

I don't understand the RayNOR people. They seem capable of not writing ThatchOR or StarmOR , even.

Is that the story about his boat? To do with council tax or electoral law

Dan Neidle wrote about it.

No, this is one about his CV. They are trying to do a Rachel Reeves on him.

I haven't seen that one, sounds pathetic

I saw that one, it is utterly bizarre.

The right got what they wanted. Reform won lots of votes. Labour is in disarray. Starmer is going to go at some point. Yet they are all so, so angry.

They are also busy spreading the rubbish reported by the likes of the Mail/Express, like a farmer spreading 💩 on his fields. I guess they are hoping to grow more Reform supporters.

TemperanceWest · 11/05/2026 09:46

Guardian is hedging its bets:

"Leaders can survive challenges. In 1995 John Major was widely seen as doomed, but Michael Portillo postponed a decision to stand against him, Major easily saw off a challenge from John Redwood (the Catherine West of his day, in some respects), and Major survived another two years. In 2016 the vast majority of Labour MPs voted no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn, but he survived (because he was adored by Labour members, a benefit that Starmer does not enjoy). In 2006 Tony Blair accepted he would have to go. But he was allowed to work his notice for a year; Gordon Brown and his allies were powerful enough to force him out, but not to force him out quickly.

No one knows where this will end up. It could end up fatal for Starmer, but that is not a certainty."

DuncinToffee · 11/05/2026 09:51

The Guardian really has got it in for Starmer, you wonder if someone high up has a personal grudge.
