I saw a picture yesterday of Birmingham council that resembled a patchwork like Elmer the Elephant.

Council meetings are going to be interesting.

FPTP has had it's time but will it be changed?

Well .... the biggest all party parliamentary group is working on it (Reform don't attend).

It's the sort of thing that Royal Commissions were meant to tackle ....

Been pondering what happens with the Senedd if someone resigns. Do they just put someone else from the same party in? Or does no 7 on the list get a shot at it? I can’t see how a by election would work.

I really don’t like this D’Hondt electoral system. The constituencies are far too big. Builth Wells, rural mid Wales, Brecon are completely different to Swansea East (the more industrial side of Swansea) and Neath yet all lumped in together.
Let’s hope that Plaid can reform it as per their manifesto. Eluned Morgan was hinting that she wasn’t keen either in her speech.

I was wondering the same thing BestIsWest. Given Reform's track record, it won't be long before one of them has to resign.

The Reform/Restore fans are certainly out in force.

I'm surprised they have the time - what with having to run the BBC and newspapers.

As long as they are ready to start their new roles on Monday, immigration/border control most be the first topic on the list.

Brrmingham 🤔 That's past the Watford Gap isn't it? Or in Alabama?

It's hard not to remember all the loony left councils that spent all meetings voting on making their borough "nuclear free" in the 1980s.

SerendipityJane · 09/05/2026 09:56

Every so often "the algorithm" can throw up something that can give the appearance of being profound. Does this articulate some deep truth about some of our more turquoise citizens ?

Starmer has appointed Harriet Harman as his Adviser on Women and Girls and Gordon Brown as Special Envoy on Global Finance.

The morning after the night before...

Very pleased that Plaid Cymru did so well yesterday but bewildered that so many people in Wales voted for Reform.

Looking on the positive side, now the work starts for these Reform Members and it's only going to be a matter of time before they start to realise that they're out of their depth and show how incompetent they are. I don’t think it will be too long before we see the first resignation.

I’ve seen a suggestion on Threads that we should inundate the Reform SMs for our constituencies with mundane questions so they have no time to be a nuisance - or if they don’t respond to have evidence they don’t actually help constituents a fat lot.

They will just ignore them.

I think we have the first question for me to email one of my Reform SMs…
Ive looked all over the Senedd website and while it talks about reasons for recall of an SM it doesn’t say how they would be replaced. I’ll probs send the query to a PC representative too, since I actually want an answer. I assume email addresses will be made available momentarily…

Indeed. But then there is evidence of that.

and ?

There are plenty of local councillors who have gone decades doing fuck all, safe in the knowledge that the less than 1 in 3 people who can actually be arsed to vote will return a pig in a rosette.

I did find something on reddit that says the seat goes to the next person on the list, but if an independent the seat remains vacant.

I plan to keep my Reform SM busy too😇

As with many things relating to Reform their core support won’t care. Might deter some waverers. Might not. It’s something to do - and after all they work for us…

I notice there is a lot of this 👆 going on with the Tory contingent at the moment. They don't seem to have noticed their own party's dire performance or that the Tories have essentially been replaced by Reform.

BIossomtoes · 09/05/2026 11:45

They don’t care. As long as the government gets a kicking they don’t give a tuppenny damn who’s putting the boot in.

Slowly, then all at once ....

BestIsWest · 09/05/2026 11:50

Is the next person on the list the next person of that party or the person in 7th place? Really dislike the lack of option for a by election (Senedd).

Even the Green party? There were many anti Polanski threads on here last week.

I think they are just 'shy' Reformista's

The other thread had a teal heart for a while

I think it is the next person on the party list.

Watching the horrifically racist and transphobic thread that popped up with interest. It seems if an actual OP spews hate speech this doesn't break talk guidelines...
