Look at this headline, then read the article

Then scroll down and you get

Reform did not achieve takeover in Hertfordshire

Piggywaspushed · 08/05/2026 20:14

Well, quite. In fact, Labour maintained control.

I commented on how the BBC likes to curate the truth on another thread.

It’s blatant, isn’t it?

It's like it hurts for them to even acknowledge the liberal Democrats.

HIGNFY with Dame Shiela Hancock. She’s just fab!

PickAChew · 08/05/2026 21:40

Ooh, I'll be watching it on The iPlayer in a bit. The old telly in The Other Front Room doesn't like being forced to show broadcast HD channels.

See Restore won 10/10 seats - who are these voters - it’s so goddam depressing.

There's an 'interesting' thread in AIBU started last night by a Restore voter - so an insight into at least one voters mindset!

It's called Starmergeddon something something something - not exactly mainstream thinking and quite rightly you may wish to avoid it on this sunny Saturday morning Smile

Llttledrummergirls · 09/05/2026 07:44

It's so full of blatant lies and wishful thinking it's actually funny.
The op left last night, and another fan was asked some good questions this morning and has also flounce.

Travel day today, so I have something to keep me amused.

LittleBowSheep · 09/05/2026 07:51

The morning after the night before...

Very pleased that Plaid Cymru did so well yesterday but bewildered that so many people in Wales voted for Reform.

Looking on the positive side, now the work starts for these Reform Members and it's only going to be a matter of time before they start to realise that they're out of their depth and show how incompetent they are. I don’t think it will be too long before we see the first resignation.

BIossomtoes · 09/05/2026 07:58

That thread would be hilarious if it wasn’t so tragic. I broke the news to my bloke this morning that we now have ten Reform councillors and the likely result would be an alliance with the Tory group. He reckons the local association branch would put a stop to that. His naivety is touching.

BestIsWest · 09/05/2026 08:13

Been pondering what happens with the Senedd if someone resigns. Do they just put someone else from the same party in? Or does no 7 on the list get a shot at it? I can’t see how a by election would work.

I really don’t like this D’Hondt electoral system. The constituencies are far too big. Builth Wells, rural mid Wales, Brecon are completely different to Swansea East (the more industrial side of Swansea) and Neath yet all lumped in together.
Let’s hope that Plaid can reform it as per their manifesto. Eluned Morgan was hinting that she wasn’t keen either in her speech.

Efacsen · 09/05/2026 08:20

@BIossomtoes we've had a NOC council for 10-15 years now - so lots of alliances and coalitions forming and breaking down over the years - all the infighting means that a lot doesn't get done or happens incredibly slowly but probably not as damaging as as having one awful party in sole charge

Including the suggestion that Aibu and Yanbu both meant you agree with them.

I really hope you’re right. I don’t particularly mind not much getting done - I probably wouldn’t notice any difference. My suspicion however with this particular combination is there will be a lot of intentional disruption and chaos. Four years of that will be exhausting. Hopefully there will be a few by-elections.

Looking on the bright side (as always!), I’m hoping this might concentrate his mind and stop the automatic cross in the Tory box. We discussed the potential of a Reform/Tory alliance at national level and he shuddered but agreed it would be the likely outcome if either was the biggest party in a minority government.

DuncinToffee · 09/05/2026 09:10

I saw a picture yesterday of Birmingham council that resembled a patchwork like Elmer the Elephant.

Council meetings are going to be interesting.

From September 2025 but still relevant.
And as observed by everyone on these threads.

Britain's broadcast media boasts of its strict adherence to impartiality rules.

Who knows? At the next GE we may move to the Italian political model of no overall control for any one party in central government for an extended period.
