So far they’re not as bad as the most optimistic prediction. I think the worst prediction was the loss of 2000 seats. A very sensible poster on another thread pointed out As things stand, it will be a better result for Labour than they achieved under Gordon Brown in 2009 and much better than Starmer achieved last year. It will also be better than the Tories managed last year.

You are more optimistic than I am.

TemperanceWest · 08/05/2026 18:22

So, so happy. But sad for all of those in England who are going to have to endure the turquoise twats.

And me, reform gained six seats in my council which is a hell of a lot less than the landslide that was predicted for the fuckwits am very relieved.

I’m sad about Eluned Morgan. She’s a good person and has worked hard for Wales. It’s my old constituency and I’m disappointed in them. They used to be Lib Dem, then PC. Going so far to Reform is sad.
However being self governed for the first time since Owain Glyndwr feels good. Feels like Wales might be finding its voice.

Karistyleaftea · 08/05/2026 19:16

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats I do believe Sir Keir will still be PM too.
I have posted before that I think he is utterly determined to try and change things for the better for people in the UK,
It has been an absolute nightmare of a term for Labour with everything that is going on in the world since they came to power.
A lot of the difficulties to do with the cost of living ( which truly is very challenging at the moment) can be squarely laid at Trump's door, in my opinion. Food costs, energy costs etc etc. Also the ongoing repercussions of Brexit and the horrible lingering effects of Cameron and Osborne's austerity strategy.

I also believe that the media have largely spun every story they can against him and Labour , never reporting the many great things they have already achieved and it is dreadful.
Kemi Badenoch is at the helm of a failing party, in my opinion and where is the news about that party's terrible results ?
Where are the answers about Nigel Farage's £5 million gift?
Oh wait, I forgot , that is for another day ..............

Piggywaspushed · 08/05/2026 19:20

I do find the success of SNP interesting. If you only listened to MN you would think they were hated. Not true.

dontcallmelen · 08/05/2026 19:22

PickAChew · 08/05/2026 18:43

That will be the first by-election, then.

Which should come out reform coffers & not the local authority’s
sad news agree about Eluned Morgan am delighted for wales just tempered with a bit of disappointment of the reform gains.

SerendipityJane · 08/05/2026 19:27

Slicing and dicing the results thus far, only confirms the fact that Labour can do very little about Reform, as most switched to Reform voters were not Labour voters to start with.

In fact the biggest thing stopping Reforms growth is the Conservative party.

This is unchanged from 2024 and points to a limits to growth stagnation.

Llttledrummergirls · 08/05/2026 19:45

I've just seen the results so far. I feel quite cheered. Labour have lost a lot of expected seats, but not the wipe out predicted by a long shot.

PickAChew · 08/05/2026 19:51

All change in Newcastle. The Greens did stupendously well. Hopefully they and the Libdems will able to work together a d the council be free of the bickering and drama that's plagued it for the past few years.

I keep missing the n. Nnnnnnnnnn.

South Tyneside gone Reform.

This makes 4 out of the 7 local authorities in the NECA area Reform, with one (Northumberland) tory. Kim McGuinness, as the mayor, has her sights set on public transport franchising. I can't see her getting very far with this, now.

MsJinks · 08/05/2026 19:59

All I’m hearing is Keir should resign and how it can work - I don’t think it’s as bad as they’re saying, so I’m not sure why it is everywhere.

Some odd guy on LBC saying how well Kemi is doing too.

I do think Reform have a ceiling number of voters so there’s that - I also hope it falls down on them!
