So Labour has lost 669 seats and Tories 416 so far. Why is Badenoch celebrating? Because she's not lost as many seats as Starmer?

BestIsWest · 08/05/2026 16:55

I’m in the wars too @cardibach with a sore neck and shoulder so feeling sorry for self in front of the telly. Plaid now on 30. Eluned Morgan out.

Why's the thread title in German? I don't understand what it says. Is it an in-joke?

Just throw it into Google Translate and ... it won't make any more sense like that, but it's fun.

Because she can’t do more than see those 2 figures? She can’t interpret them or read into them. She also can’t seem to see Reform are now the right wing party on the block?

If the Kemi is the dog's bollocks thread is anything to go by, I believe so.

Kemi is the dog's bollocks thread 😂

DuncinToffee · 08/05/2026 17:07

Phew, residents took both seats in our ward.

Never in doubt! (It was. I was shitting myself it would be 2 for Reform…)

Exactly the same result for us. Very happy.

First Minister Eluned Morgan loses seat in Senedd

That is a shame.

TemperanceWest · 08/05/2026 17:28

The headline on the Wales section of BBC coverage.

"Labour set for historic defeat in Wales as Reform surge continues in English council elections"

No mention of Plaid Cymru's historic win 🙄

ThatbloodyRoblox · 08/05/2026 17:29

Our results aren’t as bad as I expected. No majority though.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for Plaid in Wales.

dontcallmelen · 08/05/2026 17:30

MSM wetting themselves at the reform gains then.

TemperanceWest · 08/05/2026 17:32

Of course.

BestIsWest · 08/05/2026 17:34

My constituency is in - 3 Plaid, 2 Reform and 1 Labour. I am heartened by that. Greens and Lib Dem’s did quite well too and adding up the progressive vote it comes to well over 50%.

I doubt many of them are actually living in a Reform council

And Lib Dems in the other town wards. That is a relief.

It’s going to be a shit show here.

  • Liberal Democrats: 20
  • Conservative Party: 15
  • Reform UK: 10
  • Independent: 4
  • Green Party: 2
  • Labour Party: 1
Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/05/2026 17:57

Did anyone see Rees-Mogg's laughable performance on the lunchtime news? Broadly he said that the Tories would partner with Reform at the next GE. The Reform guy they had on just responded implying that that was never going to happen.
Only thing that's cheered me up all day.

Has he told Badenoch that?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/05/2026 18:06

Much as I hate to ask this (because I can't see a viable replacement) - does anyone think Keir Starmer can really survive this? I think not now - these results are surely just about as bad as they could possibly be.

Best hope for that is that they do what Durham did, last time round and have a Libdem/ tory coalition.

So far they’re not as bad as the most optimistic prediction. I think the worst prediction was the loss of 2000 seats. A very sensible poster on another thread pointed out As things stand, it will be a better result for Labour than they achieved under Gordon Brown in 2009 and much better than Starmer achieved last year. It will also be better than the Tories managed last year.
