Labour has conceded defeat in Wales.

Turnout was over 50%, the highest ever for Senedd elections.

I don’t think Labour losing the Senedd has been in doubt. A high turnout (relatively) is good though. Reform tend to do best with low turnout.

Yes, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion.

The waiting is killing me!

MsJinks · 08/05/2026 13:34

Such a mixed bag here - I’m now in a Green ward and my daughter still in a Lib Dem one - so that’s good. Reform/Green getting most seats pretty evenly and as you might expect tbh. Won’t change a lot overall here as it’s only 1/3 of seats that were up after all but would prefer no Reform on my council tbh

BestIsWest · 08/05/2026 13:38

I hear there’s a possible recount in Blaenau Gwent Caerffili Rhymni constituency!

Where did you hear that, BestIsWest?

BestIsWest · 08/05/2026 13:46

Someone on Threads @TemperanceWest.

Someone on Threads @TemperanceWest.

Thanks. I had a look on X and it is mentioned there too.

DuncinToffee · 08/05/2026 13:50

Still counting here

Record turn out for the Senedd, that is good.

And yes Labour could have conceded as soon as the ballots closed.

Just mentioned on the BBC too @TemperanceWest.

BestIsWest · 08/05/2026 14:07

It’s because the 6th seat is a very close call apparently.

PickAChew · 08/05/2026 14:08

Increased turnouts reported in Sunderland and North Tyneside. Tyne and wear councils results starting to filter in, now. Gateshead looking like a reform/Libdem split and I could probably draw the line between them on the map without checking.

BBC reporting

There are thought to be 111 votes between Labour and Reform for the final spot in the constituency.

3 Plaid, 2 Reform (to add that is expected not confirmed)

Edited

Interesting. Yougov poll was 3 PC, 2 Reform 1 Labour.

The sixth seats are going to be tricky buggers.

BIossomtoes · 08/05/2026 14:21

Unsurprisingly the ward here that used to have a UKIP town council has elected three Reform district councillors. God knows what’s going on in their heads.

Karistyleaftea · 08/05/2026 14:38

Labour held , very pleased. They knocked out the long standing Tories last time around.
I am not surprised that Wales wanted a change.
My message to the BBC journos and other ones would be ,

KEEP ASKING NIGEL FARAGE ABOUT THE £5 MILLION .

It is disgraceful that he is permitted to say he will answer that another day.
Would they treat our PM the same.
(Really sorry about the capitals but my p**s is properly boiled about this.)

I can't find the clip now but LBC Ferrari asked him about it and aside of not wanting to answer, he was claiming the information about the donation was illegally obtained.

I think the Senedd wants me to die of stress.

@Karistyleaftea that is probably the most polite rant I have ever seen on MN ❤️

DuncinToffee · 08/05/2026 14:49

Greens gain in Manchester but Labour holds

Suffolk unsurprisingly goes Reform. Always very Tory and Brexity, and I imagine many of them are the same people.

Sorry pointy. Did I read that Essex has gone too?

DuncinToffee · 08/05/2026 15:03

Essex has gone Reform

Labour has gained Na h-Eileanan an Iar from the SNP

TemperanceWest · 08/05/2026 15:09

First result for Wales. Casnewydd Islwyn PC 2 Reform 2 Labour 1 Con 1

Reform was predicted to get 3 but seems 1 seat has gone to Tories instead. 😊
