Looks like it’s going to be fun at Havering council meetings.

Here at Havering, counting has been going on for 10 hours overnight and tempers are fraying.

Reform UK has already got enough councillors to take control of its first London borough, although that's not official yet.

As the Havering Residents Association chair Gillian Ford holds onto her seat, she is heckled by a Reform candidate, who shouts loudly "where is the humility?"

He is hastily ushered out of the room but the explosion of emotion shows just how hard-fought this election has been.

He must be in a quandary. One the one hand he will be dying to do a big, triumphant press conference. On the other hand that risks questions about the £5m.

He's probably quite confident that many interviewers will let him off the hook.

DuncinToffee · 08/05/2026 08:54

That is just horrible @BIossomtoes

'explosion of emotions' what a strange way to put it

Hopefully that won’t stop the questions being asked.

TemperanceWest · 08/05/2026 08:59

I wonder how many of these newly elected Reform councillors will still be in post this time next year?

DuncinToffee · 08/05/2026 09:00

The thread on Reform councils in Politics might get a lot busier

I am just going to hang out here for a few days, and on my alcohol support thread.

Students will be next to be 'punished' after immigrants.

Aye. Never mind that the university is a major employer and a lot of our students have money to spend. Our riverside is a sea of scaffolding and unfinished building projects. The only buildings completed and in full use are student halls and the ridiculous building that our old labour council had built in an inaccessible location to replace cunty Hall and ended up selling to the University.

DuncinToffee · 08/05/2026 09:06

I have this thread, the US one and football. That will do me for a bit.

Counting is starting in Wales and Scotland.

DuncinToffee · 08/05/2026 09:20

People are putting their 'don't blame reform voters' in nice and early Confused

I don't know, Reform is more a party for the wealthy than for the poorer, so it makes sense.

Well it is I know - guess they’re properly wealthy - still will think that’s a step too far on the ‘me, me, and me’ front - if perhaps more understandable than I first said.

He’s refused to take questions on the £5 million payment. Interesting that he hasn’t been able to come up with a story to cover it yet.
Journalists are supposed to hold this stuff to account. Surely if he wants to be PM he needs to be answer a straightforward question?

No results yet in my area.

Bet he never attends PMQs - I mean I pray he never gets the chance!

I find it incredibly depressing today that so many vote for this absolutely dreadful stuff on offer - where has people’s humanity gone is my main sadness- stupidity is just eye rolling.

I do try to debate quite rationally usually on here but I’m fed up and angry particularly with those who should/could know better - I’d best restrict my threads today lol

TemperanceWest · 08/05/2026 09:39

God knows what the final result will be, but are the people celebrating the rise of Reform looking at the actual results in terms of numbers of councils held by each party?

Surely that is the important bit in terms of how much power Reform get to wield?

It is VERY interesting to see which MN regulars are celebrating the rise of the racists...

I am going to mostly stay here too.

Reform's target seat Bexley has stuck up two fingers to them, Tory majority by quite a margin.

Excellent. Well done to the voters of Bexley.

Fuck Bexley. They were the council that ended Fares Fair.

Fuck them.

Yeah - he said he'd answer the £5 million question 'another day' - as if!!

Very doubtful he will be asked the MSM seem utterly enthralled with Nigel no results here yet possibly this afternoon, taken by surprise last night I had to queue for a least twenty minutes at the polling station never had to do that even in a general election im hoping it’s a good sign for our councillors.
