Good luck everyone from Roma. We leave tonight on the overnight train to Sicily. Will check in tomorrow and hopefully not as awful for Labour.

I do hope Plaid do well in Wales.

BestIsWest · 07/05/2026 08:45

Four by my count. May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak.

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2026 08:50

DD surprised me by sorting out a postal vote (she is away at uni) after not really showing any interest in politics.

She and her friends are worried about Reform.

Reminded my kids to vote - most of them don’t need to - doh - I’m so desperate to stop Reform though ha.

Efacsen · 07/05/2026 09:05

No local elections here until next year so can only watch and wait with fingers crossed

SerendipityJane · 07/05/2026 09:15

BIossomtoes · 07/05/2026 08:15

Remind me - how many PMs did the Tories have without calling an election? Three wasn’t it? We’re off to vote this morning. Our incumbent councillors are LibDem and they’re doing a good job so they get my vote again today. I’m bloody glad I don’t live in Wales.

May replaced Cameron - No election
Johnson replaced May - No election
Truss replaced Johnson - No election
Sunak replaced Truss - No election.

Don’t recall an election when Thatcher handed over to Major either.

Polling day and I STILL haven’t made my mind up! I really want Plaid to do well but hoping Labour don’t do as badly as predicted. Head says I should vote Plaid, heart is still with Labour. I’m not going until about 5pm so I’ve got a while to think about it. DH is voting Labour he says. I’ve only once not voted Labour and that was in the last Euro election when I voted Plaid as a protest on Labour’s Brexit stance.

I’ve got a full on day, starting with the hairdresser at 9, optician and an art class, no doubt I’ll hear a few opinions along the way.

Leanne Wood reckons that voting for a party polling less than 11% is a wasted vote. Labour isn't polling as badly as that in your area(but check the link in case I am guessing your area wrongly!), so either Plaid or Labour will do the job of keeping Reform out.

I think it bears repeating into history that Cameron ran away after explicitly promising he would stay to implement the result of his referendum.

And was still make a Lord and made foreign secretary.

I think the right can just fuck off over everything really.

Edited

According to that Plaid are 3/Reform 2 and Labour 1 where I am. I think I’ll go with my heart.

Made a Lord specifically to facilitate becoming the FS

No elections where we are - so just watching in trepidation. I genuinely don't believe I could ever vote Tory tactically though.
I only ever voted tactically once - LibDem in 2010. That went well...

Same! Since the;I’ve been lucky enough (or did I plan it?) to live in places where, even if I might not vote for the winner I didn’t hate the outcome or else in a safe Labour seat. I have voted Plaid once or twice for Senedd or local when I liked their offer better and I’d decided that was the way I was going this time before the rise of Reform so I’m ok.

And we’d all be better off today if Brown hadn’t called one when he did…

I can't prove it, but I thought at the time that both Brown and Sunak had a 2-week window when they could have won their own mandate. The electorate generally has a "give them a chance" mindset.

It takes too long to organise a GE for that to work.

I dunno - I would have voted Brown in 2008, and did not in 2010.

While I would not have voted Tory in 2022, I think enough would have ("But Jeremy Corbyn") to have returned a small majority.

As it turns out Sunak clung on with ... a small majority.

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2026 10:50

Ah, the DT is reporting that Badenoch is demanding a GE if Starmer is ousted.

She would have supported two GE's in 2022 then........

When you never make mistakes, it's hard not to appear arrogant to mortals.
