I have been reading the ,"Kemi is great" thread (started by an OP who didn't return 🧐). It is quite a sight to behold with four or five posters charging in to defend even the tiniest of slights against Badenoch.

It has made me realise something. The MN rw think us MN lefties will all be crying into our socialist champers on Friday if Labour does badly.

They don't get it, do they? Maybe because of their own intense tribalism?

Most of us on the left know Labour is going to be absolutely battered. I think we have all made our peace on that one. What most of us lefties on MN and in the real world are more worried about, I think, is the rise of a racist party. That is the battle to be won right now.

Personally I will be celebrating on Friday if Reform do less well in England than predicted (could be tricky) and/or if they fail to take power in Scotland and Wales (likely but I am not counting my🐔 yet).

I know this post might trigger a mocking on you know where. I give not a toss.

Have a lovely day all. ❤️💛💚🏵

Llttledrummergirls · 06/05/2026 08:18

I agree,. As someone who has voted across the spectrum, I abhor racism and will fight it where I see it. It's driven by fear and anger and hatred, an emotional response to the unknown.

I chose to not live my life in fear.

DuncinToffee · 06/05/2026 08:19

Well said Temperance

I also agree. What the tribalists fail to understand is the bigger picture, and the resurrection of fascism is about as big as it gets. How is it a good thing if 'your side' win when the price everyone ends up paying is so high?

DuncinToffee · 06/05/2026 08:28

There is a fear of the 'the left', I don't know if it is genuine or just SM talk.

You onl have to look at the US.

Agree with all the above posts, I know Labour will undoubtedly take a battering it’s the reforms gains that will make me weep.

Notonthestairs · 06/05/2026 08:30

Oh Temperance - you will be making the lurkers mad. You are supposed to be weeping/ranting into your cornflakes and pulling at your hair. Is Labour not your whole identity?

I have noticed that the likely outcome for the Conservatives in this election has been rather understated. And as the resident L/D that is where my attention will be. I hope the L/D make some decent ground.

DuncinToffee · 06/05/2026 08:39

There has been little focus on the Lib Dems, no Ed Davey stunts.

Media is full on Polanski at the moment.

It’s the waste of the last two years that makes me weep. The rise of Reform terrifies me and has achieved the impossible in this house - political unity. I’d vote Tory to keep them out and he’d vote Labour to do the same. In the 28 years we’ve been together it’s the first time we’ve ever agreed.

I’ve been meaning to try The Rest Is Science as I’ve given up most of the political podcasts in disgust. Still listening to TRIP and TRIPUS. Very much enjoying The Rest Is History 70s series at the moment.

Exactly. They keep saying ‘well we’ll see and then you’ll be sorry’ or words to that effect. They don’t get that we know but that doesn’t mean we change our view on what’s right to do for the country and, more to the point, what’s wrong.

@cardibachI'm in Scotland. Everyone I've spoken to (a very small anecdata study!) is voting tactically to keep Reform out. I voted Labour last time. I would like to vote Labour (ideal world a Lib/Labour pact) again. But ...
So, if I vote SNP U risk a majority for them which means a push for another IndyRef (regardless of views this will consume a lot of time & £). But I cant vote Tory (incumbent where I am & bloody useless)
Sigh ...

Is IndyRef in their manifesto this time? It’s not in Plaid’s currently though it remains a long term goal. If it’s not actually in the manifesto they might leave it alone for the life of this Parliament (whether that’s a good or bad thing).

TirednessOnToast · 06/05/2026 11:45

@cardibachYes it's in the Manifesto & being heavily promoted.

I will keep marching my talk against the rise of the right - I can’t not - we know what’s happening and the focus is to stop it.

Someone on another thread seems super glad boris won resoundingly in 2019 - that’s ok each to their own, but I’m still trying to find out how that panned out for them! It’ll be exactly the same with these elections fgs and sigh.

It seems to me that where "right wing" and "dim" become synonymous, there is a lot of celebration of "things" and very little acknowledgement of what those things then presaged.

Brexit being the paradigm.

No wonder he isn't appearing on tv

All the interest in Farage's £5m security fund has come at a bad time for him. He's had to keep his head down and he's not been blazoned across all the media as he would normally be, even more so at election time. I doubt the timing is coincidental. Good news for the rest of us though, the less we see of his ugly face the better.

I agree. An election campaign without Farage popping his head up everywhere has been a refreshing change. Apparently he’s out and about but somehow there seems to be a media blackout.
