... and I don't say that with an easy heart. I've never, ever felt the need to vote for the Conservatives.

I don’t think I could. I don’t know what I’d do if presented with that dilemma.

Can you get milkshakes in the Vatican?

Plenty of holy water. It would probably burn.

I think I’m going to have to in the next GE. It was UKIP central round here a decade ago - they took every seat on one of the town councils. I’ll just have to hold my nose.

FT exclusive:

US Treasury secretary Scott Bessent had a fierce row with UK chancellor Rachel Reeves in Washington last month over her outspoken criticism of the Iran war, according to people familiar with the matter

For once a positive story about Reeves

Was going to post this but I am at behind this thread. Good on her.

cardibach · 05/05/2026 20:09

Genuinely don’t think I could @BIossomtoes
This is better news for the Welsh contingent

We've got our house on the market as we want to downsize. Logistically parts of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire work for us but we won't even consider Northamptonshire because it's Reform.

DuncinToffee · 05/05/2026 21:19

More questions over Farage's Clacton house, well his partner's house.

More than one way to pay for a house.
Loan from a crapto billionaire might do it.

placemats · 05/05/2026 21:35

Thanks all for the support. It's fantastic being here. Will be visiting the Pantheon tomorrow morning.

Being Irish passport holders we sailed through. The vast majority of passengers were caught up in the EES system. Italy may abandon it. Chaos.

However my sister's luggage was was one of the last out and still only a handful of passengers turned up.

There were several very irate taxi drivers waiting to pick up passengers. By the time my sister got her bag most of the luggage on the carousel had fallen on the floor. Mine was one of the first ones out. Typical. We left via taxi, and the usual scary ride into Rome.

Brexit advantages my arse.

Edited because wine was drunk this evening.

PickAChew · 05/05/2026 21:37

I do t get this. If he's the "most attacked politician" then the money is linked to his work. End of.

No obligation to declare £5m gift, Nigel Farage says - BBC News https://share.google/3T058gWPmFHl8TQ8C

No obligation to declare £5m gift, Nigel Farage says

The Reform UK leader says the gift was "purely private" and "wasn't political in any sense at all".

countrygirl99 · 05/05/2026 21:41

But surely everyone gives their friends £5m whenever they need a helping hand 🤷.

No wonder he isn't appearing on tv

They are falling apart here (Northamptonshire) in terms of policy. Give it 18 months and they’ll be toast.

Well quite. 1984 tory Conference.

Yes, of course. Stephen Timms as well.

Farage does like to play the victim, doesn't he?

countrygirl99 · 05/05/2026 22:13

You are all so unreasonable. Surely everyone realises that a milk shake is far more dangerous than a bomb/gun/knife. Especially if it's strawberry.

I always smile to myself when I walk across that spot in Newcastle.

Anyone with a passing interesting in science and/or human behaviour might find this podcast interesting. It quietly gets to the heart of why there's no dealing with stupid. If you can listen at 1.5x, it helps. Modern media is slowly dying as people realise they can make a 4 hour programme for as much as a 1 minute programme. So they do.

(We have a few generations who sadly were never schooled in "just because you can, doesn't mean you should")

I’ve been meaning to try The Rest Is Science as I’ve given up most of the political podcasts in disgust. Still listening to TRIP and TRIPUS. Very much enjoying The Rest Is History 70s series at the moment.
