I am also trying very hard to not.

Have a lovely time @placemats . Pictures please!
@TemperanceWest i think a lot of 6th seats could go anywhere and if decent people get out to vote them going elsewhere could really knock Reform’s numbers. Fingers crossed anyway.

Evenstar · 05/05/2026 14:09

🤬 statement from Reform run Lancashire council saying they are withdrawing from refugee resettlement schemes and “reminding” voters who the local election Reform candidates are. Surely this must be in breach of an electoral rule.

It’s such a load of bollocks too.

DuncinToffee · 05/05/2026 14:20

Bollocks that gets frequently repeated on MN

just don't upset them with the word camp.

Has anyone ever seen any data about 'veterans on the streets' ? I feel this is pinched from the US where it was certainly true in the 80s and 90s that there were homeless Vietnam vets.

The only stat I know is that the largest proportion of homeless people have been victims of domestic disputes and domestic violence or abuse.

Edited

There are lots of dedicated projects addressing homeless veterans, who are ‘at the front of the queue’ in the U.K.
According to this website, about 3% of homeless people are veterans, often because they haven’t been signposted to the right organisations. It’s not clear whether that means street homeless or in temporary accommodation. It’s not a massive issue in the U.K., it’s one more example of Reform leaping on the US bandwagon.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation that people who serve or who have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly. But despite the firm commitments the Covenant sets out, there are still too many veterans livin...

Yes, this is anotehr point. To Reform when tyring to catastrophise / dead cat things all homelessness is (White British) people 'on the streets', I can't see how their policies won't do anything other than render more people homeless , in all of its forms.

Must say I had assumed that the £5 million had gone to Reform Ltd.

I hadn't realised it had bypassed the company altogether.

Straight in to Farage's pocket.

Fuck it, I'll go in to politics if I can have £5 million to piss around with.

And thats what we know about - wonder what else has been promised.
He could buy Clacton at this rate.

LittleBowSheep · 05/05/2026 17:43

Back from holidays and sorting through my post. We don't normally get much these days but have come home to a few leaflets and letters about the Senedd elections.

I've had a letter from Reform telling me that I should vote for them because they are going to 'resuscitate' the NHS. The letter was written by a bloke who used to be an NHS doctor before entering politics. He goes by the name of David Bull.

Surely that should be David Bullshit.

Catching up on some of the threads today, something struck me. Many right wing posters insist that they are proud that the Tory party is the first to have a black female leader. I think it is fair to be proud of that. It is a good thing.

But at the same time those posters are positively drooling at the prospect of a massive surge of support on Thursday for a racist party.

Strange bedfellows if you ask me.

Slicing and dicing all the numbers, it's looking like to stop Reform, you need to vote Tory in my corner of the universe.

I am consoled by the fact that this may make the Tories think they are not fading from public life. As we all know, it's the hope that kills you.

DuncinToffee · 05/05/2026 19:17

I will judge anyone celebrating the rise of reform

Too many 'i am not a reform voter but' and 'i used to be a labour voter' posters around at the moment.

Lib Dems or Residents here to stop reform.

Surely Lancashire council can’t get away with that statement of reminding who the reform candidates are that’s outrageous behaviour.
I spent over thirty years working for a homeless charity a very very small number where ex services, the majority had come through the care system or left very difficult home situations at an early age.
latest polling rumour in my borough could go NOC it’s been a Tory majority council since inception in the late sixties, our Labour ward councillors still relatively confident of being re-elected Reform have been targeting the outer reaches of the borough very hard.

SerendipityJane · 05/05/2026 19:32

Why not ? After all much more egregious behaviour has been ignored or not acted upon.

dontcallmelen · 05/05/2026 19:38

I know Jane it’s just so frustrating & maddening these fuckers are Teflon coated I don’t understand why & how they are are getting away with such un democratic behaviour it should be in all the other parties interests to call them out it’s straight out of that orange twats playbook.

BIWI · 05/05/2026 19:47

I don't have to, thankfully - but I would very happily vote Tory if it meant that Reform were kept out.
