Well I'm beginning to think they should just give him the fucking Nobel Peace Prize then we can just set about tearing down every male bastion and shibboleth in human existence because the whole thing is entirely fucked and needs scrapping so we can start again. And this time let's try not ending up here because it's bollocks.

Odd conman who doesn't ask for money - at least not in any of the videos I saw between 2020 and 2024.

I wonder what the scam was ?

Con as in convict.

I have said before a few threads back, I have no issue with him being a con/ex-con. What put me off was how he suggested that he had been a military contractor/cop trainer/ journalist. It was heavily suggested.

I remember one vid I watched about guns. And he had a plastic toy AR. I remember he said he would not use a real one because of YouTube rules. But actually no, he is a felon, so he is not allowed one. I thought it odd at the time because there are loads of gun channels on YT.

Wipeywipey · 01/05/2026 09:44

I think what he really wants is an Oscar, he just doesn't know it yet. His reactions to 'assassination attempts' and bald face lies with a straight face; he plays senile grandad with dystopian horror undertones very well.

I can almost hear the Kremlin pissing themselves over the idea he believed in the "big boom" Tehran would make when it's oil simply EXPLODED! He does love a dramatic scene, does Donald.

Agreed. That these individual male crackpots such as Trump, Putin, Hitler, etc can have such a devastating effect on the lives of so many millions of us, is totally crazy and shouldn't be allowed to happen.

If Trump gets the Nobel Peace Prize, I'm done with the human race.

I would hope that the Norwegians have more sense than that. Hopefully.

I am not sure these days. The VZ politician who won has not exactly been inspiring. She comes across ( to me anyway) as a bit of a conspiracist.

I saw in the news yesterday that BP has done a VZ deal. Photo of the handshake, with the acting prez.

Now call me old fashioned or whatever. But I think the news out of VZ should be about the upcoming elections and all that. Yeah, what upcoming elections ?

Assuming he doesn't nuke the world to bits, there will eventually be a post Trump era. Will he always be revered by Republicans or will there come a time when they admit what a dreadful president he was?

I fear he will follow Mao. Another similarity. They will put his picture on the money.

They would have to be open to the possibility of having been disastrously wrong and feeling suitable shame and contrition. And apologising to the whole world. So I wouldn't put money on it.

I'm not a huge fan of his because, although I do listen or watch entertainment about politics, my tendency is to turn to analysis from people who are experts in what they're analysing and it's never been clear to me what his expertise is supposed to be in. That said, I'm generally a believer in rehabilitation and reintegration - many offenders deserve a second chance and there's no reason to think he doesn't. I just don't love the obfuscation around his past.

RedTagAlan · 01/05/2026 11:46

Re the 60 days. Trump has spoken about it. From the CNN feed:

"President Donald Trump on Thursday complained about congressional efforts aimed at limiting his war powers — the latest of which the Senate rejected this afternoon.
They go again and again on the war power,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “I’m negotiating a deal with Iran,” he added. “And every week, every three days, they put in a thing that the war should stop.”
A post-Vietnam War law puts a 60-day clock on the use of military force without congressional authorization. The Iran war would hit that 60-day mark on May 1, according to the text of the law, the War Powers Resolution, but there’s some confusion in Congress over the exact date of the deadline.
Some lawmakers say the 60-day clock started from the date hostilities began, which would make the deadline April 29, while others cite the text of the law to argue it’s 60 calendar days from the date the White House officially notified Congress, which would put the deadline at May 1. Other Republicans argue that ceasefire days don’t count towards the 60-day total, or say that the president can unilaterally extend the deadline to 90-days."

For a man that claims to know more about almost everything than anyone else, he sure does struggle with specifics.

I'm willing to bet my house, that the Norwegian committee will NEVER award Trump the Nobel Peace Prize. And the country's politicians will be prepared for the inevitable Trump backlash tantrum, even though they have no say in who wins the award.

Here's a look back at an article from last year.

Norway braces for Trump’s reaction if he does not win Nobel peace prize

US president may impose tariffs, demand higher Nato contributions or even declare Norway an enemy, analyst says

Never done me no harm. Contrariwise, I found and find the calm commentary with pointers to things that may have been missed in the shouting useful.

Thinking for yourself is the clearest marker I can think of to detect whether someone is living in MAGAland, or it's UK equivalent.

I too totally believe in rehabilitation. That's a reason I am not keen on the US system where they often throw the key away.

In his case however, I used to watch him when I had a VPN. Never missed a vid for a good few years. When I saw his past come out I was disappointed, because I felt mislead.

For example, on police he referenced a few times that he had requests to train the police, but had refused. He was very heavy on the inference. But it was not true. At least not in the way he was suggesting. He is a felon, so why would the police employ him as a trainer.

Same with the guns. Instead of claiming Youtube rules about guns. he could have just said " Not allowed guns in Florida because felon". If he had said that, it would have been honest.

I felt let down because I mostly trusted what he was saying, but he was actually being dishonest. And I don't like dishonesty. I was not devastated. Just blah, won't bother with them again.

And when I see someone upthread post " he was a journalist", I respond. Because he was not. That's all.

If you mean Beau of the Fifth Column he was not a journalist. He was/is a con. As in he was in prison for people smuggling/ visa stuff. His name is Justin King,

And nope, that's not a right wing smear thing.

Who Is Beau of the Fifth Column Conviction, Really? (dailydot.com)

The trouble with that condemnation is that whether or not he has a conviction in his past (he does, but the explanation for it is not as clear-cut as his detractors/attackers would have everyone believe) he generally talked a lot of sense in a reasonable manner, and I tend to think that past convictions are less relevant to current affairs than current sense.

And he certainly was a journalist; it is possible to have been convicted of a crime and be a journalist as well. Here for instances an article from a publication that was employing him in 2014, before he started producing his videos in 2019: https://www.digitaljournal.com/social-media/profile-of-a-digital-journalist-activism-fuels-justin-king/article/398161

And if you loathe him for some things, also like him for others: his urgings to people to show some sense in the face of natural disaster, and his contributions to disaster relief in the USA. particularly important now that Trump and his thugs are dismantling the government-funded disaster relief organisations there, must be seen as laudible. Simply the advice "if there is a flood and you head for the attic, take an axe with you so that when the stairs are underwater you can break out onto the roof and get seen and rescued by a helicopter" may have saved a few lives. "By their fruits shall ye know them" seems to me worth considering in this case.

I don't loathe him.

Nor do I think anyone's past should be what defines them. But I think honesty is.

From that article : " . While I was working as a security consultant I studied history, languages, photography, and emergency medicine. Later in life, I tried to develop some blue collar skills and took classes in welding, electrical repair, and automotive repair. I’ve gotten some software certifications along the way, too."

Security consultant ? He was in his 20's when he was convicted in 2007. I expect his blue collar training was while he was in prison. But fair enough. He was a journalist/activist.

logicisall · 01/05/2026 14:08

Friday's here, which means that once again Trumpshit will happen once markets close.

U.S. President Donald Trump was scheduled to receive a briefing on Thursday on plans for a series of fresh military strikes on Iran to compel it to negotiate an end to the conflict, a U.S. official told Reuters.

How exactly do you bomb a country to compel it to negotiate with you? Surely then Iran will be unlikely to negotiate in good faith especially as they have different objectives.
Trump is overly invested in winning and achieving zero sum results.

Didn't he say something like, 'We already won the war, but now we want to win by a bigger margin". What the hell does that mean anyway.
