Back in 2016, before he was elected the first time, quite a few commentators stressed time and time again that Trumps entire schtick is he's a "businessman".
Everything is a "deal", in as much as "deal" means "I come out on top". Purely transactional and of the moment. Totally immune to the idea of strategy and investment.
Even then, a lot of people were saying "But you can't do foreign policy like that". However they were ignored because "the constitution will protect us".
Don't hear much about John Adams these days. But as I understand it he became to believe that ultimately the experiment of the United States would result in a monarch.
