It’s finally Friday. What’s for tea, dinner or supper at your house?

Whats on the menu?

It’s been a long week and I get the feeling that DTeens and DH all need a spot of TLC (whereas I’m absolutely fine having had a day off and actually wet myself laughing in a tennis match this morning.)

I’ve just put pulled chicken in the oven to have a good five hours. With (bought) flatbreads, a sort-of Middle Eastern salad and herby labneh. Then homemade lemon ice cream (time will tell…) with berries and toasted almonds. And cupcakes from the local bakery for those that want one. There’s also a bottle of Chablis I’d been saving for an emergency.

Can’t wait! Please humour me with your dinner plans.

I don't know! I've had a really busy week at work and so has dh. Youngest is tired and I think would appreciate a quick dinner and an early bedtime. I definitely don't want takeaway so hoping inspiration strikes.

Sausages and mash! With roasted carrots, parsnips and cauliflower - yum!

My 11 year old grandson has requested entrecôte steak, mushrooms, onions and homemade chips. He’s also requested that I test the interior temp of his medium rare steak with a cooks thermometer to get it just right, and In the event I couldn’t get out for the entrecote ingredients today he’s asked for pepper sauce instead.

Chicken shawarma and lamb meatballs, wraps, all the salad bits to go along with!

GripGetter · 17/04/2026 15:34

We had croque monsieur. It was the easiest but by far the best dinner of the week! We used to live in France so it's a bit nostalgic for us.

Snowie99 · 17/04/2026 15:40

Fish and chips

Turnitoffnonagain · 17/04/2026 15:40

Roast chicken salad with red onion fritatta wedges, olives and sundried tomatoes. And a cold french beer.
Suddenly feeling summery warm and sunny here! 🌞

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 17/04/2026 15:43

Curry for DS2 and me. Ready made, from Iceland so not even remotely fancy.
Pizza for DS1.

Tuhafeni · 17/04/2026 15:48

These all sound delicious. DS has now asked we stay at school for another hour or so to catch the end of a vital cricket match so pleased I gave the chicken five hour lead-in.

It certainly feels summery here in the South East. Will it be barbecues next week?

Chicken and vegetable kebabs with satay sauce, flatbread and basmati rice.

HarmoniousHumbug · 17/04/2026 15:49

Dh is away, so just me and a slab of homemade lasagne (from the freezer) with a glass or two of chilled white wine and a familiar, comforting film.

Bliss!

Bratwurst in brioche finger buns with crispy onions

Thowaway · 17/04/2026 15:53

Sausages for the kids - DS gets to pick on Fridays as DD always has her absolute favourite meal for lunch at school on friday (fish fingers and chips).

DH is back after bedtime this evening so rather than joining the kids on sausages at 5.30pm, I’m attempting to telepathically beam ‘Chinese takeaway’ at him so that he can suggest it, and I can look like the ‘oh you twisted my arm’ virtuous one 😂

CountFucula · 17/04/2026 15:56

Tandoori cauliflower
veg dhal
rice
flatbreads
Onion raitha

yuuuum

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 17/04/2026 15:57

Chinese, because I absolutely cannot be arsed.

ExOptimist · 17/04/2026 15:57

A quick Mary Berry penne recipe with Parma ham, mushrooms, broccoli, cream, parsley and parmesan. It's become my go to very quick and easy meal, it's delicious. Followed by some crackers with Pie d'angloys cheese and grapes, my favourite.

ultracynic · 17/04/2026 15:57

Full English for us this evening. I love it but could never eat it for actual breakfast, so every couple of months we do the full shebang, usually in lieu of Sunday roast but just fancied it tonight (and my teenager is going to a party so a good solid meal to line his stomach). Can’t wait, especially as I’m not the one cooking it!!

LikeAFeverDream · 17/04/2026 15:58

Black bean tacos, corn on the cob and an avocado, tomato and cucumber salad

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 17/04/2026 15:59

Steaks, portobello mushrooms baked with garlic, sauted Anya potatoes, honey roasted carrots and parsnips, peas and a brandy peppercorn sauce. I forget to get ice cream and I can’t be bothered to make any so leftover Easter eggs for dessert.

dontforgetme · 17/04/2026 16:00

Kids choice on Fridays and they have asked for fish fingers, chips and broccoli! The plan was ribs, rice and salad for dp and I but I don’t fancy it, will see when I’ve cooked it later but I may end up having the left over turkey mince pasta bake from last night. With a very cold bud light, or 4.

GetOffTheCounter · 17/04/2026 16:00

Dcs are having chicken burgers, jacket potato and salad. DH and I are having pumpkin soup I pulled from the freezer plus garlic bread.

I don't know for the weekend. Probably a pizza at some point. We buy pizza bases and add our own toppings. DH likes mushrooms and peppers and I like peppers, extra onion, mozzarella cheese (the buffalo mozzarella) and honey and chilli. DCs like ham and pineapple.

pointythings · 17/04/2026 16:05

I am making a Malaysian style fish curry with noodles.

WonderingAndOverthinking · 17/04/2026 16:06

I had an awful, traumatic week last week and am absolutely shattered this week. I’ve cooked from scratch every day since last Saturday, it’s pouring with rain, the kids are tired and it’s the only day they don’t have a club on so I have bought some frozen pizzas to have for tea.

Followed by a treat of some Easter sweets and Easter egg whilst catching up with BGT.

Squirrelandhedgehog · 17/04/2026 16:06

DH is making pancakes.
