Radio DJs banal chit chat

Do you like radio DJ's chit chat? I obviously could turn the radio off, but I was with a client this morning so it wasn't my place to do so, but my goodness, the chit chat is so banal and tedious. Is it just me!? I do wonder if there is something wrong with me that I don't enjoy what most people seem to enjoy, but do they? Or are we just conditioned to think the banal chit chat is what radio DJs are for?

I can’t STAND it. It actually makes me depressed. Switch off instantly.

But if they don’t chit chat it would just really be back to back music which we can use streaming platforms for.
I have to like the dj to like the chatter. I’m no longer a radio one fan because to me they talk rubbish. Romesh can do no wrong on radio 2 😁

I'd prefer back to back music! On my own, that's what I'd listen to - just music.

I get what you are saying about having to like the DJ. I am getting old though and don't like anyone. I have such a low tolerance for banality these days.

I also doubt the sincerity of some of them - saying stuff they've been up to, I don't know, just doesn't always ring true!

I used to love Terry Wogan though. Could listen to him all day.

I like the chit chat which is why I listen to the radio and not just streaming. I find it really good company.

I agree OP, they do my head in, especially R1 djs.

I hated Terry Wogan with a passion all that Irish blarney shit .

I hate it but some people like it for the ‘company’ element if they are lonely.

Why would something be ‘wrong’ with you because you may not like the same thing as other people? That’s quite dramatic!

Ahhh it’s hard isn’t it, I find most radio 1 djs really annoying now apart from Greg James, but I find Radio 2 really boring/their targeted audience seems all over the place music wise, but I can’t cope with the adverts on capital fm. There needs to be a Radio 1.5 🤣

It depends who it is. I love Lauren Laverne, like Huw Stephens and Chris Hawkins...can't stand listening to Nick Grimshaw or Zoe Ball or Mary Ann Hobbs. I don't like the slightly fake OTT presenters I guess.

My mum use to have her clock radio tuned in to good old Terry every morning. I use to love listening along as I got ready for school.

Unlike todays bloody presenters - I listened to radio 1 yesterday whilst painting and oh my god… I know i’m old but what a absolute load of drivel!, and it seems the more dim the presenters are the more popular!

I can't listen to Romesh- his stupid bits with the equally awful 'Sally Traffic' which end up with them just laughing and then she can't even deliver the Traffic bulletin properly. I'm happy to listen to chat but turn off Romesh on Saturday and Jeremy Vine in the week.... I don't know who Radio 2 think are listening to their station but often it isn't me these days....

Oh my god I hate it. And more so when they do things like Saturday afternoon calls in where people say what their upto ooo Clive is having a BBQ and Patricia is putting her feet up. No thanks.

I had to turn off R2 yesterday morning. It’s not so much the DJ chat it’s some of the people they chat with. Mark Goodyear was on for Vern (and he’s bad enough) with his stupid what were you doing in the 70’s rubbish.
I am sure the listener who phoned in with her whole life story is a very nice person. I just don’t want to listen to you. Most people’s lives/love stories whatever including mine are just very banal and boring. I have tried other stations but I can’t stand the adverts. Back to Spotify for me.

Streaming has been around for a very long time now. Why are people who don’t like DJs still listening to the radio? Except for the PP who had to put up with their client’s choice it isn’t compulsory.

I love the chat. I turn off if too much music. Luckily my preferred radio station is talk only early in the morning.

What pisses me off is when they talk over the beginning/end of a track but don't tell you what or who it is. I listen for the music not the bollocks coming out of your mouth. At least with streaming even if it's not a live show you can look up the track as it's playing.

Yeah I don’t like it either. I listen to Virgin Radio chilled which is relatively chat free. But when Chris Evans is on (VR chilled doesnt begin until his show is over) he only plays 3 or 4 songs an hour. I don’t dislike him, but I listen to the radio for songs, not chat or interviews with people I’m not interested in!!

I rarely listen to popular music stations these days, sometimes classic fm. Mainly listen to constant talk stations like lbc. I do however have fond memories of Sarah Kennedy and her dawn patrol early morning programme. I didn’t listen to Terry Wogan though.

I also listen a bit behind so I can fast forward the ads - now those really, really, annoy me!

The radio1 daytime djs (bar Greg and matt and mollie) are shite
