How does someone like Keir Starmer receive a knighthood?

I can't help wondering how Keir Starmer ever got to be made a sir? I always thought sirs were people who had done something special?

Really? I find that hard to believe.

You should always strive to believe one impossible thing before breakfast.

Any word on my challenge to you re council elections, which you were completely wrong about? Until you address that, I'm going to work on the assumption that everything you said was wrong and politically motivated.

I simply cannot believe for one moment he is less popular than the buffoon that was Boris Johnson.

Surely Liz Truss takes that prize

Boris was a clown, but he did have some widespread support. Liz had none.

EveyHammond · 11/04/2026 19:45

for starters hes better than the average joe getting drunk and watching football down the pub

Sorry, but you don't know what you are talking about. I went to university seven years before Starmer, to a more prestigious university than Leeds. BBC at A level was far from the top end of ability. I had AAA, my husband had AAAB. I went to an academic private school, he went to a grammar where four of them in his year got 3 A's. The standard offer for his course was BBB.

Leeds was a very unselective university.

And yet Keir Starmer has achieved so much more than you. Funny that...

Who cares? All the better for a non elite state school educated product of a shite university was still able to become DpP through talent leadership, intellect and passion.

I think it's time to break out this article again.
Especially when people trot out the same tired old nonsense about how bad Labour are with the economy.

You must think we're all stupid.

theconversation.com/labour-are-much-better-at-running-the-economy-than-voters-think-new-research-162368

l just know the facts, economic policies of the left, the history.

Won’t bore people here: but since Labour got in power last year they have jack knifed taxes massively. They’ve crippled the economy. The gilt prices at record levels above Liz Truss. SME’s going bust on a weekly basis.

wealth creators have moved out of the UK.

the UK the highest taxes in G7.

£4bn AI investment from the US pulled out days ago as we have 10x the energy costs of any country in the western world thanks to Red Ed Milliband’s net zero policies.

Labour have massively increased welfare payments, so much so that now welfare payments vastly exceed the government receipt of income tax. So, more money going out than coming in. Clearly unsustainable.

Labour can’t do cost-cutting due to massive back bench rebellion of Corbynista MPs.

illegals costing us £200 billion a year. Labour could pull us out of the ECHR in 6 months & the boats would stop. But Labour refuse to do this, because Labour thinks illegals vote Labour. Labour wants to increase welfare dependency because they want a communist state where the government controls everyone.

So, yes, every Labour govt causes MASSIVE financial mismanagement & ineptness.

”winter of discontent” and 2008 financial crisis? All Labour’s doing.

The trouble with Left wing is “they always run out of other people’s money”

We will have a recession next year. All down to Labour policies. No doubt Labour will blame the Tories, Trump, the Ukraine war, the Iran war, Elvis, Gillian Duffy, longtime Labour member, who said Gordon Brown was useless, a spendthrift, a hypocrite and bigot.

Maybe Labour can blame their policies on Father Christmas?

“Smash the gangs? One in-one out? 1.5m homes built? taxes will go down? Your energy bills will be halved. Crime has gone down? We will have massive economic growth”

anyone who believes these blatant outrageous lies & left wing propaganda needs to be sectioned.

HoppityBun · 11/04/2026 19:52

I’m beginning to suspect that the OP is a journalist looking for a copy. Journalists always write “how“ when what they mean is “why“.

OP, for reference, we all know how someone is knighted. There are pictures of Royals with swords, in case you’re wondering.

This is such a waste of time. Starmer enthusiastically embraced the idea of delaying elections. It would have been convenient for him, but fortunately was challenged and was found to be illegal. Many people, including ratepayers and Ed Davey as well as other politicians you probably are not keen on felt that democracy was more important than saving money.. The elections will go ahead when they should do.I don't expect Starmer will last much longer.

How do you feel about him accepting so many gifts?

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 11/04/2026 19:54

Because he knew who arses to kiss and suck up up to when he was the DPP.
Simple as that.

The tile Sir has really lost its shine in recent recent years with munters like David Beckham and Jimmy Saville.

I think it is very outdated and more suited to a term of mockery and derision.

pointythings · 11/04/2026 19:55

'Labour thinks illegals vote Labour' - no, you've jumped the shark with that one. Electoral law is quite clear - you have to have a British passport to vote. 😂

And now I can disregard everything else you have posted here as arrant nonsense.

😂😂😂clearly a Labour councillor has spare time on a Saturday evening.

Starmer is absolutely useless. Reads autocues that someone else wrote.

only passion he has is to line his own pocket. I wonder what his pay off/cut was for selling off the Chagos islands? £10m? £50m? £100m?

Illegals get immediate payments on entry to the UK. Plus fast tracked to council houses and HMOs. Forms filled for UK settled status in record time. Settled status then becomes UK passports.

Right wing said Rwanda deal, which now the whole of Europe now copied. This resulted in an immediate reduction in illegals when they realised there was no incentives/no freebies.

Immigrants have always voted Labour. That is the Labour voter base. Mainly because left wing policies allow huge numbers of families to resettle in the UK.

Don’t worry, next month in the local elections we will see who votes Labour - nobody! Criminals, people on benefits, illegals, public sector will all vote Green.

It wasn't actually the Grammar school part I felt was elite, more the fact that it became independent and he stayed there. i.e he went for part of his schooling to an independent school.

Somersetbaker · 11/04/2026 20:18

Indeed, he was very well known during his career as a barrister for the amount of pro bono work he did, particularly on human rights cases. He won numerous awards and accolades as a result (e.g., being named Human Rights Lawyer of the Year). Regardless of what you think of his politics (or of the man personally), he was an excellent and committed human rights advocate for many years.

That’s right - he did do pro bono work. Like prosecuting British soldiers for orders the soldiers were told to do by British government at the time. Starmer relentlessly hounded and prosecuted the military for decades through the courts, so some soldiers committed suicide such was the intimidation and threats.

Like Starmer refused to prosecute Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris. Like Starmer signed off papers to allow the Southport murderers to settle in the UK.

The EU Rwanda memorandum of understanding (so exploratory at the moment) is very different to the one proposed by the Tories - which is why it is more likely to pass legal tests.
Under the EU deal applicants would be processed in Rwanda and if accepted will be given the right to live in the EU. Off shore processing of applications.
The Tory proposal was to send applicants there to live. Not off shore processing.

The rest of the MoU relates to infrastructure development and materials.

It’s odd that you haven’t bothered to read up about given you appear so passionate about it.

Sir Gavin Williamson exists. Now that's boggling.

Wonder which is more kind boggling, Gavin Williamson or Jake Berry. He truly pulled a few scams in my area.

I don't know about his career, I'm going solely on his behaviour which is a mirror to his character which I find is unable to understand and allow any ideas except his own very narrow point of view.

This is surely a bait post... No one can be this dense

Oh dear - you've been swallowing Johnny Mercer's nonsense, haven't you. Please do some proper research to educate yourself about (a) what Keir Starmer's actual role was (clue: he wasn't prosecuting them), and (b) what the rule of law is and why it is a good thing that the armed forces are subject to it even when they're off fighting Johnny Foreigner. Fine to dislike and criticise Keir Starmer, but at least try to do it based on actual facts.

Well I'm pretty sure neither you or your husband have been PM, or led something on the scale of the crown prosecution service. Unless...Liz, is that you?!
