I never choose the favourite I just look at the list of names and choose a couple that jump out at me. Today I’m going for Spanish Harlem and stellar story.

Do you think if it was pet dogs or humans that frequently died during a certain race, for example if humans often died in the olympics, would carry on? Of course not.
awful bloody business

BL0B · 11/04/2026 15:13

Two dead so far this year at Aintree

Yes just read another horse has died today.

It's sickening. Horses are such beautiful animals. They deserve better treatment than this

Parky04 · 11/04/2026 15:31

Tel12 · 11/04/2026 13:29

You could always bet on how many horses will die, during and after?

I'm afraid to say, but you can bet on this.

Carlie97 · 11/04/2026 15:37

A horse broke its back yesterday racing and the jockey still rid him to the finish line saying he didn't know anything was wrong with the horse which is absolute fucking bollocks. The horses back legs buckled after that jump. The horse was euthanised. Another horse died in the 'festival' today. It's fucking abhorrent.

ForMerryMauveDreamer · 11/04/2026 15:39

Disgusting race. Glad to see many PP commenting on this rather than answering the question

Carlie97 · 11/04/2026 15:41

Hottchoc · 11/04/2026 14:23

There's always the ollie Cromwells trying to ban everything 🥱 if mumsnet had their way a bbq would be illegal

Do you not mind horses dying in the name of entertainment and because they make big cash then? Sickening.

Terriblytwee · 11/04/2026 15:48

I’m not. Im not into cruelty for my kicks.

TheWelshposter · 11/04/2026 15:50

So glad to see the lack of support here.

Another big no from me. Disgusting sport for brainless people.

HoppityBun · 11/04/2026 15:51

Catwalking · 11/04/2026 13:57

Horse racing is ONLY run for the gambling as is greyhound racing.
Both should be banned.
If the horses ‘love to run’ -ban the carrying & use of any sort(reins could be used) of whips.

Horses have to run. If one goes, they all do. It’s herd instinct. It doesn’t mean they want to be where they are doing what they do with all the rest that goes with it.

And we haven’t even touched on what happens to them when they can’t compete anymore.

herbalteabag · 11/04/2026 15:52

No one because it's cruel and I'd like to see it banned.

It's awful. Made me feel sick and so sad reading about that horse. The jockey must have known something was wrong with the horse but just did not care in the slightest. To whip it to the finishing line is just awful, I hope that jockey has nightmares about it but I can guarantee he won't.

It is ridiculous that the jockey is not done for animal cruelty

LazyCatLtd · 11/04/2026 15:57

After what happened at Aintree I am taking no interest in horse racing ever again. It is a disgrace that it hasn’t been banned.

LiveShots · 11/04/2026 16:00

Backing The Real Whacker, which means backing more than a horse.

I regularly go out on the moor beside our local yards and see the work firsthand, horses on the gallops each morning, trained with patience and care, real athletes built through routine and trust. In the race yards, teams of dedicated staff keep everything moving, every detail attended to. A huge rural employer.

It’s not just the yards, but the specialists too, our farriers, vets, feed experts, all part of a wider network that supports these horses day in, day out. This is the rural economy in motion, built on hard work, skill, and pride.

By backing The Real Whacker , I’m backing all of it , the people, the yards, and the community behind every run.

LiveLuvLaugh · 11/04/2026 16:03

I’m backing it being banned.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/04/2026 16:07

Unfortunately the way racing presents itself is exciting at least on the surface .

The horses are magnificent athletes , muscles like steel under their glossy coats . They prance about with bright glossy eyes and throwing foamy spit

The race track is surrounded by glamorous people drinking champagne . Lots of Work Outings too no doubt to network.
Indeed our late Queen was a huge fan and watched her own horses race .
The jockeys are tiny (most of them) and come across as serious or charming . Look at Frankie Dettorie , Willie Carson, even Lester Piggott . As famous for their personality and on screen antics as on the saddle .

Those few minutes and they're off .

Overcrowded , animals who are built to run fast but not to haul themselves over an obstacle . At least with show jumping or cross country the rider will know what is on the other side . A race horse doesn't know f he'll land on grass or a fallen horse . How frightening it must be to land awkwardly and know there are dozens of horses coming over that jump after you .

The knowledge that "if I'd pushed him/her a bit more , if I'd hit him/her a bit harder they might've made that last surge and got across the line first" . So the pressure is on all the racers and the jockeys (I know they all say they love the horses but c'mon, they want to win that race )
The only losers are those horses .
And those sad wankers who will blow their money at the bookies . If they have money to burn , crack on. You don't get a poor bookie there are more than six bookies in my town) . But could also be their childrens food money . Or rent .

And when it is over and we will count the Death Toll or Injury Toll ( which might mean euthanasia or it might mean retire from racing . ) everyone will try to tell themselves "well they died doing what they loved . What they were bred for "

And there are very very few Happy Ever After homes for them. A lot of riders couldn't maintain a TB racehorse .
Many of them will go abroad and we all know what that means Sad Angry

It should be banned . There's no reason for animals to race .
And that includes greyhounds and pigeons

The pictures I have seen show some of the women looking
hideous.
Parading around exposing as much fat white flesh allowed (without being arrested) and heavilly tatooed bodies contrasting with frilly lace babydoll ensembles, all accompanied by the most ridiculous hats and shoes, is not fashion in anyones eyes..surely.

Many years ago there was a thread on here with posters being equally as awful as you are. Many posters linked gutter press such as the Daily Mail. In that post was a local who said don’t feel sorry for us, don’t mock us and don’t laugh at us. It’s a huge event locally. The girls love it and have a great day. They don’t want anyone’s negativity. They are there to enjoy themselves and it seems they do. Perhaps be a better person and ignore the photos which are a split second of time and scroll on or better still, close your web browser.

Most are there to get pissed and/or stoned which is pretty pathetic. They could do that at home and no animals would be hurt

I will pity and mock anyone who supports animal cruelty

You don't need to watch to know that horses are killed.
It takes a particularly twisted mentality to relish in the deaths of horses, OP. Please be careful not to encourage such weirdness in your DC.

Yes, please don't encourage a love of animal cruelty, but please do encourage a basic level of written English.
