I never choose the favourite I just look at the list of names and choose a couple that jump out at me. Today I’m going for Spanish Harlem and stellar story.

Differing views, differing experiences.

The stable and training yards around us provide jobs, provide a broader ethnicity in an otherwise white/British environment, help rural communities to thrive, including keeping small schools open & shops with customers.

The training is highly professional, top equipment, specialist support. The horses, close up, are athletic and glow with health.

These communities would not exist without the training yards (or would just become another ‘ghost’ of an area full of mainly empty holiday homes).

I live in a very rural area. My dc attended the local village primary school. Being rural the school catchment is a large area. There is one racing stables (where they train up horses for both steeple chase and flat racing). They really don’t contribute much to the local economy. And certainly the children the owners have, have long since grown up and gone. They use the local farrier (who is very good) and yes they use a vet who specialises in equines. However the vet has plenty of other clients, as does the farrier. Huge yards, may contribute to a few extra jobs, but in reality I think you are clutching at straws to say racing yards help rural communities thrive, they certainly don’t contribute much to village schools! And no they wouldn’t be ghost settlements if these establishments closed down.
Yes of course the horses are in the prime of their life, old Dobbin isn’t going to win many prizes is he?! And that’s the whole point isn’t it? these animals are majestic, they are sentient, they are sensitive and have their own personalities, so treating them as nothing more that money spinners and allowing avoidable deaths is unbelievable cruel. Ex race horses very seldom go on to make good riding horses. They have endless issues with napping, spooking, hacking out on their own, being sound in traffic, bolting, rearing, or being boxed, or caught in the field. Most of the time they go from trader to trader, until eventually they are either shipped abroad for meat, destroyed or left neglected rotting away in a field because they can’t be safely handled. Occasionally, very occasionally an owner might keep a racer until the end of their natural life, but in reality most owners see them as nothing more than a commodity. I’ve house sat for several people who have horses, and ex-races are always incredibly hard to handle / ride compared to the little thelwell pony happily munching on its hay 😂.

Both my horses won! One a favourite to win and another an outsider.
So I'm happy with that.

Never mind the cruelty then.

Certainly contribute to the schools I work with. Closure would happen without the local yards.

Their pics have come up on another forum I am on, ....and yes, some of the women look like clowns, overweight, over-made-up, over-indulged, classless clowns.

I can indeed post my opinion, just as you can, and I do agree people can wear whatever they like. However, these women are vying to be seen and commented on, that's one of the reasons they are there, so comment I will.

You don't like my comments.... I don't like that you are more concerned with comments about fat foolish women than horse cruelty.
Such is life.

Are you commenting on the "classless" men as well or just having a dig at women as it's a cheap shot?
"Women out in public dressed up are just out for attention, asking to be seen and commented on!"
🙄 Biscuit

The photo of Gold Dancer collapsed at the penultimate fence , his back legs sprawled behind him , who then went onto to finish the race and another jump with a fractured spine .Shock Angry Sad
That photo will be seared in my brain for ever .

I hope whoever has expressed glee at this hideous sport will harbour at least a bit of shame .
Also mention for Get On George who had to be euthanised
And the ones who fell like Top Of The Bill who fell and his jockey has been given a 10 day ban.

All in the price of your entertainment these noble creatures will join the ranks of the dead or injured .
And probably in six months , forgotten .
There are lists of the casualties if you want to search them up.

I cried at that photo and the last 2 nights have struggled to get to sleep because I keep seeing that picture and knowing how in pain and scared Gold Dancer must have been.

I really can't believe that anyone could think that was acceptable

How anyone could see the photos of the horse that died yesterday and continue to support this evil is beyond me. Absolute fucking scum.

Agreed.

BeaPerry · 13/04/2026 17:47

I could weep if I allow myself to really think about it
why oh why would any sane person think this not only OK but a fun thing to do ?????
its barbaric and the people who support it abusers

Blood money from a blood sport

Fibrous · 13/04/2026 17:51

I’m so pleased greyhound racing seems to be on the way out, and I hope horse racing follows. Fuck any money generated - who gives a shit? Get a better job. One that doesn’t exploit and murder animals.
