I never choose the favourite I just look at the list of names and choose a couple that jump out at me. Today I’m going for Spanish Harlem and stellar story.

My youngest son won OP he won 7 pounds. Family tradition for us. We always put around £20. Nothing major. Just a flutter.

Well done to him 👏🏼

And maybe some of us have empathy for rural communities who would not exist without the training yards.

So yes, differing views.

I grew up in a rural setting. I get it. However that's no excuse for the suffering these events cause the animals.

Do you apply the same logic to pimps, the dealers of arms, perhaps the industries that support online exploitation of vulnerable abused children? Because they all provide employment too, disregarding the suffering resulting from their enterprise.

Their pics have come up on another forum I am on, ....and yes, some of the women look like clowns, overweight, over-made-up, over-indulged, classless clowns.

I can indeed post my opinion, just as you can, and I do agree people can wear whatever they like. However, these women are vying to be seen and commented on, that's one of the reasons they are there, so comment I will.

You don't like my comments.... I don't like that you are more concerned with comments about fat foolish women than horse cruelty.
Such is life.

How do you know I'm not concerned about horse cruelty? Have I said I'm not concerned? No, I haven't. I'm very concerned. I'm also concerned about your kind of cruelty- someone does something you disagree with and you go for their looks. You call them stupid and classless. Can't you see how cruel that is? If you are walking down the street in your best clothes one day and another woman says "Oh look at that big fat stupid woman, she looks like a clown", you'll be ok with that, will you? Because if not, why is it ok for the racegoers to be insulted and not you?
You're a very cruel woman.

That’s just silly why torture yourself? I don’t like the Asian animal markets with animals crammed in cages getting ready to be slaughtered for meat so I don’t go actively looking for them. I know nothing more than that really because I don’t want to know the details. People who cry about horse racing then go searching for the results are just strange people that like winding themselves up into a frenzy and then coming here with the moral high ground while probably being meet eaters and having a season pass to a zoo.

That's a reasoned answer and I know only too well how upsetting it is to think of the Asian animal markets for example. But the thing is, change can only happen when people know the facts. If none of us acknowledged that some things are wrong, immoral or nasty them imagine what sort of society we and our children would live in. And I don't eat meat or go to the zoo but I'm honestly not taking any moral high ground. I just think horse racing is cruel (because it really is) and unnecessary.

No, we have none of those locally, so our small local communities are not impacted.

Meanwhile the local school has maintained the two classes and all children in the village (not just the children of families connected to racehorse training) have their school open.

There is local work for local people as well as those moving into the yards. A multi ethnic community. Young people stay for jobs, they don’t need to move away. Businesses thrive.

Oh what a lovely and wholesome family tradition. ❤️ Hope the horse he bet on didn’t die afterwards but if it did, would you tell him?

Years ago , butchers would have whole carcasses that were half a pig or half a sheep/lamb hanging by the back leg in their shop, sawdust on the floor because of the blood.
Now meat is sanitised , it is displayed or wrapped on a polystyrene tray with clingfilm. The fact it is an animal is glossed over .

I don't know exactly what goes on in the Wet Markets (exotics like bats etc)
Or Monkey Torture Videos
Or the labs that test the make up to make it safe to go on your face .
I have a pretty good idea . I have researched over the years .
But turning your face away going "Oh No , I don't want to think about it" doesn't stop it happening .

The pictures of the National will be all over the news . Coming into my house uninvited . Totally different to the underground world of hare coursing or badger baiting . Racing is out there .
I live near a greyhound stadium, I have never been, nor do I want to .

You did a near identical thread last year (it's on Similar Threads )

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result .

Ah greyhound racing I loved that when we had one local. Unfortunately they sold it to it developers to build houses. I should try and look for another one near me. Thanks for the reminder

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/04/2026 18:48

Yeah , why don't you linger about after the race and pick yourself up a cheap or free greyhound .
Did you know that many are dumped or killed after a race if they fail to succeed?
And because they have their ID number tattooed in their ear , it is sometimes cut off so they cannot be traced.
The lucky ones end up in rescue , not ideal but at least it's a roof over their head , a kind person to care and food in their belly . Very lucky ones get a new home

I would be more than happy for our local track to be sold for houses , it is near a school and a station so it would be ideal .

I don't go actively looking to see how many beautiful horses have been killed because greedy pricks make them run and jump but when I look at newspapers online I see headlines about the deaths.

For your information me and DH have been vegetarian for over 40 years so your silly assumptions are completely wrong.

Why? So you can pretend it’s all fine and lovely. That’s not in line with my values or how I live my life.

I guess we’re all different.

Yes let's not look and we can pretend two beautiful animals didn't actually die over this race fixture .
As long as you had your fun betting and got your cash pay out you can forget that the price was paid with their lives .

But I think you really don't give a shiney-shite or you are at least pretending not to .
