Well, Trump is back to his Empire expansion, North this time.
I thought Cuba was first in the list? Or is Cuba just going to be the forever blockaded country in the world? Holding that record.
He is pushing and pulling and poking and probing the beast (markets, NATO, upcoming economies).
He has kicked the hornets nest and still getting stung.
Now he wants to kick the wasps too. Wasps and bees and the whole zoo!

This is what Starmer has been busy with rather than posting on X

A further 6 countries have now signed this joint statement on the Middle East Conflict.

They are: Romania, Iceland, Sweden Greece, Norway, Finland.

April is beginning to feel like it's going to be a long month.

This part of @Llttledrummergirls post saying that Trump and his administration are "just sucking energy and life out of the world." resonated with me bigly.

The world deserves better.

To anyone with an ounce of empathy, the output from the WH (and elsewhere) amounts to terrorism. We might not be fearing for our own lives, right now but hearing direct threats against ordinary people is just awful.

TL;DR ?

I have no respect for any institution that can allow this to happen. Fuck the US, and fuck it's constitution. No one did this to the US.

It will all be good at the end. New world, new opportunities.
Many lessons to learn on what to change for next Democracies! That is for sure.
There is a long long list, starting with never all the power on a single person's hand, never a system where you can buy your way up the power and no Empires.
We can change all that and we will.
It is taking quite a bit of our headspace and I think that is a good thing, because people is paying attention to what is happening.
I am going for a cup of tea, bit of sunshine, listen to the birds and chill a bit. It is good for the soul.

I just saw that it's past 40 days since the supreme leader was killed. So the 40 days of mourning are over for his son. There is a ceremony going on. So, will the new leader make an appearance?

It’s absolutely exhausting!

When he won his second term I decided I would ignore news stories and any SM related to him and focus on more positive things for the next few years. That’s how I would cope with it.

But of course, he would not allow that, would he. He had to make sure he was in the news and at the forefront of attention in a big way all the time. The most powerful person in the world!

I remember in his first term there was a meeting with the G7 leaders or somesuch and as they lined up for a photo he grabbed and pulled the person in front of him out of the way so that he could be front and centre, straightened himself up and had an expression that said ‘I am the most important person here’.

That simple act told you everything you needed to know about him.

And yet the American people could not or chose not to see who he was. Not just crass and greedy for wealth and attention but focused only on his own interests.

There was more than enough evidence from his first term that he didn’t care about the American people. They ignored his abysmal handling of Covid, devoid of sympathy for the more than 1 million American people who died of the disease, concerned only that the pandemic would affect his chances of re election.

They chose to ignore his involvement in 6 Jan, his constant refusal to accept the result of the 2020 elections and the undermining of democracy.

It was clear that he had no regard for rules, he was bigger than the constitution, the rule of law, international law. Nothing applied to him.

Why? Can anyone really explain why a people could vote for someone who was so wildly unfit for office and dangerous?

The world will not thank you for your role in the mass suffering and destruction in the Middle East right now and the hardship that many poor and developing countries will suffer as they bear the brunt of the consequences of this chaos and instability that your elected leader has created.

DancingFerret · 09/04/2026 12:32

"Can anyone really explain why a people could vote for someone who was so wildly unfit for office and dangerous?"

I'm going to get flamed for this, but maybe it's because of the percentage of the American electorate who are insular to the point of never having held a passport?

Don't misunderstand me, I have family and friends in the US and visit regularly, but some of the conversations I've had and listened in on have left me in no doubt quite a few Americans have no world view or interest, blindly still believing their country is in the greatest in the world - and the ridiculous and dangerous orange loon is living testimony to that belief.

Even if they care not about the rest of the world and are concerned for themselves only and how cheaply they can fuel their cars and fill their trolleys did they not stop to consider that his erratic and selfish behaviour might affect them eventually?

He’s always spoken of big beautiful tariffs. Did they just lap it up and assume that it was the other countries’ problem, that it wouldn’t affect them?

Did they actually believe him when he said no more never ending wars, that the money would be spent at home on Americans?

Someone shown to be a natural liar, did they just believe everything he said?

Someone so greedy and unchristian like he was profiting from selling MAGA bibles. Who doesn’t need to do that small change grifting anymore because he and his family have gained obscene wealth since he returned to office and is likely to continue making a killing playing the markets.

He must lie in bed at night laughing at such fools while thinking of how next to disturb world order for his own personal gain.

RedTagAlan · 09/04/2026 13:14

So the Turd is threatening Iran again. Stick to the ceasefire or else. But what ceasefire? What agreement ? And now Isreal have just bombed the last bridge across the Litani river, with thousands of families on the side that Isreal ORDERED them to evac.

Has Trump told Israel to stop ?No ? Ah, his deal was different. His deal is secret.

I am certain he is waiting for his ships to arrive. And no matter the talks, he will attack again.

MsJinks · 09/04/2026 13:19

I think some are indeed quite insular and just go for cheaper eggs. I hesitate to add this, but I think some just want to be him - brash, uncaring, dictatorial and willing to shoot (or nuke) anyone annoying them. We see it in the U.K. as well, maybe we’re a bit behind the US on it but we normally catch up! So it’s no reflection on US citizens as a whole but some individuals.

These individuals also shout the loudest, don’t politely accept no and push to the front - this makes them appear to be the majority- when they’re really not. I believe they can’t be anyway.

Hegseth lied... surely not?!

Army survivors of deadly attack in Kuwait dispute Pentagon's account, say unit "was unprepared" to defend itself.

The members CBS News spoke to disputed the description of events from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who described the drone as a "squirter" — in that it squirted through the defenses of a fortified unit inside Kuwait.
"Painting a picture that 'one squeaked through' is a falsehood," one of the injured soldiers told CBS News. "I want people to know the unit … was unprepared to provide any defense for itself. It was not a fortified position."

Army survivors of deadly attack in Kuwait dispute Pentagon's account, say unit "was unprepared" to defend itself

Survivors of an Iranian attack that killed six U.S. service members have disputed the Pentagon's description of events and said their unit in Kuwait was left dangerously exposed.

If Iran are smart which I suspect they are, they could wait until the US ships arrive, then reopen the SoH until the US fleet lose interest, wait until they are half way home, then close it again. I can’t see a land invasion, it’s just too ridiculous even for the orange one.

All of that is probably exactly what his supporters were expecting.

(It would seem that's the case on both sides of the pond, but that belongs on another thread.)

Maggiethecat · 09/04/2026 14:33

In addition to his threats to withdraw from NATO he will go after NATO countries and will have his sight set on some in particular.

And no one in his administration will have the temerity to curb his vengeful lust.

World alliances are being and will be reformed and America will be worse off in the end.

Post Trump leaders will try to salvage the wreck but they won’t reverse things because the world knows it could happen again.

People like to use the phrase ‘this is not who we are’ but the Americans have shown us exactly who they are.

The rest is history is quite interesting on how they messed with Jimmy Carter.

I’m sitting in a car park looking at empty petrol pumps here (Ireland) and remembering the fuel crisis when I was a child - nearly 50 years ago.

They would be very foolish to do any live appearance with him.

The Israelis will track him and kill him.

All Iranian leadership is very vulnerable to assassination right now.

I think Americans don't have much choice actually.

Both parties, if you think about it, slug it out over the same issues, just extreme ends of their spectrum.

The Democrats have lost sight of economic justice and focus on social engineering and outcome rather than opportunity.

The Republicans focus on social engineering too, but on the extreme end of the conservative spectrum. Their economic "justice" is for the rich - no government regulation, no tax, and so on.

The voting population is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Most polling shows that Americans actually want a middle ground.

But for some reason, I suppose the electoral map thing, they are stuck in these horrible swings.

I saw on RTE that truckers are blockading as well. Going by other stuff around the world. this is going to cost governments massive too on subsidies to keep ppl going. Pro business Trump is destroying small businesses globally.

But we could say the same about ourselves and Brexit?

How much were we going to take back from our "EU contributions" and be rich and save the NHS?

We were amazing and they needed us more than we needed them?

The world would line up to do trade deals with us?

We fall prey too.

It is worth looking at how figures like Trump, Cameron or Boris, and the system they work within, can lead us into these situations rather than writing off entire populations as thick!

I don't mean this as a reprimand but I do think we need a spring clean of systems.
