When did you start to get grey hair?

I’m mid 40’s now and I’m definitely getting more grey hairs, a few around my temples but they are gradually creeping to the rest of my hair. They stand out as I have naturally quite dark hair. I have been pulling them out as I see them but baldness is a potential if I keep doing that! 😂

When I was 30!

BauhausOfEliott · 06/04/2026 12:08

I got my first one when I was mid-40s.

Don’t pull them out. They will just grow back exactly the same, and because they will be shorter than the rest of your hair, they will stick out and be a lot more obvious.

I was in mid 20s.
If I didn't dye my hair it would be totally silver/grey by my mid 40s.

Many people in my family are the same.

In my late teens. I'm mid 40s now and stopped colouring a couple of years ago, and I love it!

AndStand · 06/04/2026 12:14

I was 20.

DancingLions · 06/04/2026 12:15

I was probably early 30s. But I'd always dyed my hair from being a teenager as naturally it was a dull light brown. So I don't know for sure and I dont know when I went completely grey. But at 50 I stopped dying it and was completely grey by then.

rpkjlao · 06/04/2026 12:16

i found my first grey hair on my 40th birthday 😅

a few years later I only have a few.

BeMintFatball · 06/04/2026 12:17

I’m 60 next week. I only started to go grey a couple of years back. I have one streak at the front divided by my parting. I actually love it, I think it looks cool and planned like I got a hairdresser to do it. But it’s totally natural. My natural colour is dark blonde (mouse 😂) / light brown

sesquipedalian · 06/04/2026 12:18

By mid-forties, I had a Cruella de Vil grey streak through the middle of my hair - I started to colour it and have done so ever since.

Crinkle77 · 06/04/2026 12:18

Mid 40's I started getting odd one or two. I'm 48 now and starting to get a few more but still at the pulling out stage but it's gonna get to the stage where I can't get away with it. I don't want grey hair and I guess I'll have to start dying it but I've never dyed it before do this will be a whole new and experience for me.

Statsquestion1 · 06/04/2026 12:18

The year i turned 40

AprilComeSheWillWhenStreamsAreRipe · 06/04/2026 12:19

In my early 30s. I’m now in my 70s and my hair is still mostly dark. It’s greyest at my temples.

Snowie99 · 06/04/2026 12:20

18 and I used to touch it up with Harmony which came in a triangular box. I’ve coloured it properly first with highlights, then tint since my 20s

DreamyJade · 06/04/2026 12:21

In my teens. I had very dark hair. I’ve been completely white since 40.

Bezaz · 06/04/2026 12:21

52 here. I do pull out the odd stray gray around my temples / hairline but have very few.

TheChosenTwo · 06/04/2026 12:22

I’m 41 and have a couple. I’m not really bothered by them, I’m lazy about going to the hairdressers so they stay there until I get round to going (about once a year!). They’re just hair glitter 🤣 I’ve got naturally very dark hair with the occasional natural bright red strand (thanks dad), so the greys will show up quite obviously but yeah, I’m 41 and it’s quite normal. Dd has light brown almost a dirty blonde and has had the occasional white hair since she was a tiny little girl!

DinosaurBlue · 06/04/2026 12:22

After I had my first and suffered from post partum hair loss, a lot of the regrowth around my temples was white.

Fluffywabbits · 06/04/2026 12:23

I was 39 when I spotted my first one. I've got quite light hair naturally but the grey ones are very course compared to the rest of my hair which is fine so they stand out.

ElvisGrace · 06/04/2026 12:24

Sounds as though I’ve been quite lucky getting away with it until my 50s
Although I don’t think my Nanna ever went proper Grey even into her 70s it was salt and pepper rather than the lovely silvers that you see

TimSamandLulu · 06/04/2026 12:28

I got my first at 30. I’m 41 and quite a few strands at the hairline but none further back. It’s now reached the stage where I’m going to attempt a box dye just on the front to blend them a bit more because they are more and more noticeable when I pull my hair back. I fully intend to embrace the grey when I have enough of it though.

I have two streaks at my temples. I'm starting to have more greys now.
