I felt humiliated today

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 21:29

At work today my manager brought us some treats in for Easter, I had a biscuit and was eating it on the shop floor, she actually told me off I felt like a naughty school girl, she told me to hide it, I felt so humiliated, this isn’t the first time she’s done things like this, is she bullying me?

OP posts:

Yes it does. If someone is told off on a shop floor in front of colleagues and customers this literally is a workplace bullying tactic. It is to humiliate and it's been done by someone senior. It's bullying.

This is why it is frown upon.

Edited

Did the manager shout at her or have a quiet word? The argument that ‘well customers do it so why shouldn’t I’ is the logic of a stroppy 12 year old.

bigboykitty · 05/04/2026 02:40

Are you the same poster who doesn't pay things on time and got narky about a reminder?

Changeiscoming1111 · 05/04/2026 02:41

No this is not bullying. You could have ate it in the break room or after work. Saying it was ‘only a biscuit’ and justifying it shows a lack of respect. There is a sort of hierarchy with workplaces, so you need to be more accepting or let things go over your head a bit. Generally having a job in any workplace you’ll have this same sort of situation.

Changeiscoming1111 · 05/04/2026 02:42

You really shouldn’t feel humiliated, it’s not a big deal.

Steeleydan · 05/04/2026 02:44

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 21:54

Yes she singles me out, she will laugh and talk to others, but never to me, I always feel like I’m treading on eggshells around her, and she deliberately makes my job harder than it should be, if she saw anyone else eating a biscuit, I can guarantee she wouldn’t gave said anything to them.

Sounds a real bitch, how professional of her as a manager to treat you like that. Do you have appraisals?
If so next one ask her why she's like she is with you. If not just ask her anyway, this is victimising you. Can you go above her and report her

SpringLambton · 05/04/2026 03:22

It was a biscuit

If you work in retail/customer service, I'm surprised you can't see that eating/drinking on the shop floor is unprofessional.

IncessantFlames · 05/04/2026 03:32

Happyjoe · 05/04/2026 01:12

No, she didn't like the shit given with the answer.
It was always possible to answer questions pointing out errors of their ways or to give opinions without smugness, name calling and being crappy to another person.

If the OP feels like she was being bullied by her boss, her feelings were valid and not to be ridiculed at imo. Being pulled up for eating a biccy in front of customers and staff on the shop floor most certainly can lend to feeling bullied, on top of the vibe she already had. Bad management.

Sometimes there are better ways to do things. Goading someone into being rude then pointing out that they are being rude isn't the way to do it.

You sound like you know way more about it than I'm sure you do. Assumptions don't make an argument.

Many of the other posters are just as confused as the OP as to why that's wrong. Highlights the varying socio-economic participants that's for sure. Some people just think you're within your rights to do whatever you please when you're an adult on paper.

RawBloomers · 05/04/2026 03:36

Witsends123 · 05/04/2026 00:35

She didn’t say the biscuit was handed on the shop floor that is correct but somehow the biscuit eating ended up on the shop floor

Because the OP took it out of the break room where it was given to her and where it would have been appropriate to eat it, and took it onto the shop floor.

That's what you got out of the whole thing?
What started out as asking if the boss was a bully for not letting her eat on the floor to allllll these other accusations. Now I didn't read every single post but I'm yet to see her called out for the drip feed but I would think that's more because it is just bits being made up to make the case. The OP was 100% in the wrong and she's made other shit up to prove her point against the manager that she's nasty.

We actually don't know the exact truth it's changed quite a hit throughout.
But the OP was specifically about eating on the shop floor in a customer facing role and that it's unprofessional, which most agree on. The rest is made up confetti because she didn't get the outrage she was looking for so had to turn it up a notch to prove she is "bullied".
The rest of it wasn't about any of the stuff she's made up along the way.

But as with all threads there are a select few who are coming to the party for the OP and have bought all the rubbish that has been spouted since.
A comical read, an unbalanced OP, then the smattering of people buying the shit and the others who can see through it.

All in all an amazing read on a boring Sunday so thanks for that... But you're still batshit as are a small portion of responders.

What a mad world we live in.

If you read the other comments by OP you'll see this woman is clearly picked on by this manager, it goes deeper than a biscuit! ...hence my comment

IncessantFlames · 05/04/2026 03:46

Bring out the boss and other employees for their side.

Drip fed yes she says so.
But THE OP was about a biscuit that even a moron would know is wrong.
Read the OP. That's the thread the rest is made up confetti you have believed. Good for you. Let's bring out the boss for the truth hey.
(And no I'm not her I'm in a whole other country but I can see bullshit when it's added to).

Yep and then when told she was wrong she made up other shit.. Odd huh

IncessantFlames · 05/04/2026 03:50

Anyway I'm out. Arguing with incompetent fools is getting boring haha.
The manager should take steps to remove the entitled individual. I don't buy what happened after the OP. Because the rest is rubbish... None of it adds up or makes sense.

hypnovic · 04/04/2026 21:41

This incident is 100% about the biscuit.
Was everyone else eating theirs and only you told not to?
I'm afraid you broke the rules and then act like you are being singled out for jo reason. Perhaps this is why you feel bullied. if you often ignore the rules and seem put out at being corrected she maybe is a little sharper with you!!

I was thinking this.
@pinenuts75 you seem to have a bit of a victim mentality.
I never worked in shops - only in offices - but the most I had at my desk was coffee.
Because it’s just not professional to eat cookies in front of the customers or the clients or the patients or the children you teach or, well, you get where I’m going.
But it’s not personal. ❤️

EmeraldShamrock000 · 05/04/2026 04:59

I have never seen a shop assistant eating while working on the floor. It is a no go.

How old are you and how often do you break the rules?

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 05/04/2026 06:30

You don't eat on the shopfloor.

You know when you see a thread on the trending feed and it’s 19 pages long and over 450 replies; then you click on it because you think that because it’s so long it may be interesting or that maybe you can help or share an experience.
Then you read the first page … and you’re like “Ok - nothing to see here- am I missing something? 🤔” so you tap “see all” of OPs posts and you get to page 19 and then
….. well, yes me too 🤷🏼‍♀️🤯😳

It took 2 seconds to eat, it wasn’t a burger and fries or anything

You're changing the goalposts with each update. You can't possibly think it looks professional to eat anything whilst working on the shopfloor in a customer facing role.

Sistersister50 · 05/04/2026 07:16

@pinenuts75 I think you need to stop worrying about this, but remember the rule not to eat on the shop floor and you'll be fine.

I also think you need to stop worrying about whether your boss likes you or not. It doesn't matter. Just turn up, do what you need to do and go home. And try not to think so much about it. Honestly, rumination is the death of confidence.

10namechangeslater · 05/04/2026 07:17

WhyWouldSomeoneDoThat · 04/04/2026 23:31

I think people need to stop giving the OP a hard time. She’s accepted she probably shouldn’t have eaten a biscuit on the shop floor, but it also seems like the manager might have had a disproportionately harsh response to a few seconds of chewing 1 biscuit on the shop floor by pulling her up on it in front of customers. If someone comes on here and says they think they’re being bullied it’s probably best to not start acting like bitchy schoolchildren in response to her. It’s not constructive or kind and it’s immature. Give the OP a break.

This. So many bullies on this thread.

Kitjo · 05/04/2026 07:25

People aren’t being bullies - they are just exasperated that OP can’t change her narrative from “manager doesn’t like me” to “I made a poor choice today” - such a blame culture!! OP shouldn’t be in that job if she doesn’t have the ability to work out for herself it was a poor decision - if a manager needs to micromanage such small things they may as well be using a puppet to do the job - you expect a certain level of competence when paying someone…. It’s humiliating for the manager to be placed in the position to have to even raise the issue!
