I felt humiliated today

At work today my manager brought us some treats in for Easter, I had a biscuit and was eating it on the shop floor, she actually told me off I felt like a naughty school girl, she told me to hide it, I felt so humiliated, this isn’t the first time she’s done things like this, is she bullying me?

I've never seen staff eat on a shop floor. I wouldn't even eat in a shop as a customer.

Can’t think of anything else I do wrong apart from exist of course, she hasn’t mentioned anything else apart from things are running better since she’s swapped my role, I guess I’m good for some things

Crikey, sorry we don't want to upset you to the extent that you don't want to exist...😕😳 A bit of a sensitive overreaction, OP.❤️

Please don't think we all hate you. We are just trying to give advice and say how we see it. From your manager's point of view, you broke a rule and looked unprofessional. She was right to point this out. She was only trying to help you avoid the same mistake in future.

Me too

So what’s your excuse for your ridiculous behaviour, then?

You are being tough on yourself. You now know you shouldn’t eat on the shop floor. It took you an awful
lomg time to listen or realise or understand what lots of people were saying. You were just countering everything. Perhaps there’s other similar rules that are common sense to most people but you are missing? It was wrong of her to tell you off in front of people on the shop floor. You’re obviously doing well with your award etc but perhaps don’t listen if you’ve been told something. So maybe you need to reflect on that too. No need to resign or quit? Why not have a word with your boss? Apologise for eating on the shop floor and say you’ve made enough feel there are some issues between the two of you, and ask if there’s anyway things can be improved or anything you need to do? It’s not nice to feel
like this at work. So maybe loose the attitude and have an honest calm adult conversation to ask how things can improve?

Having been a member of management, id suggest that "things are running better since she swapped my role" means that she's moved someone better to your previous role, and given you an easier role.....
The comment around you're voucher is mean too - deliberately mean and intended as such.... id suggest that that comment IS bullying, but if taken any further, she would say it was banter...
The biscuit thing is fair enough, because really you shouldn't be eating on shop floor.

Do you work for a discount retailer begging with P?

No asking for opinions

No she isn't eating on the shop floor in front of customers sounds incredibly unprofessional and honestly you shouldn't have needed to be told not to before you did it. That sort of thing is pretty obvious. She's probably out there on a forum asking people if she really should have had to state the obvious because this entitled employee just decided to do what they wanted then when she did state the obvious (that it sounds like everyone else knew without being told the special rules or you would have mentioned in the OP others did it) you turn around and pull the bullying card... You're the kind of employee that managers dread.

Maybe just act like a responsible adult being professional while working instead of acting like a child who needs to jump straight into the treat bag as soon as they get it and she won't have a need to call you out for your obviously inappropriate behaviour.

Horses7 · 04/04/2026 22:57

You sound very immature. Just do your best job, quit eating on the shop floor and act like a grown up!

Eating a biscuit on a shop floor when I shouldn’t have

Did you even understand the question?

Marysnail · 04/04/2026 22:59

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 22:43

No I don’t know what she finds to talk to them about

could you try to listen or ask other team memebers what she likes to talk about ?

Cherryicecreamx · 04/04/2026 23:00

As a customer, I don't mind you having a bite of a biscuit! But as a business, I don't know any that would permit you eating on the shop floor due to professionalism.
Having said that, there's never any need for humiliation and she should quietly ask you to eat it in the staff room next time.
I remember eating a chip off my boyfriend's plate at the local pub I worked in and got in trouble! Apparently eating on show is a massive faux pas!

People saying my manager would be pleased if I left

but then the manager would have to follow the processes and even then its one person, if you can rally the team behind you and other managers then it gives you a better chance

MyTrivia · 04/04/2026 23:04

I think this person is probably a teenager with a Saturday job.

The thing is, if you don’t gel with your boss then it’s best not to do things that will get you told off. It’s fairly obvious that eating in front of customers isn’t a good look?

I have been bullied at work. What that involved was my boss lying and accusing me of leaving work early when I did not. When I reminded her about the CCTV which proved I actually left late, she said to forget she said it. She was batshit.

Some bosses are stroppy or even dislikable and I’ve had those too but you can tell that isn’t bullying.

Marysnail · 04/04/2026 23:04

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 23:03

ok do you have bills to pay or a family to support ? because you need to consider those aspects too

thats the puzzle with some people and how they become managers to begin with etc

are you being deliberately obtuse @pinenuts75?😀

@pinenuts75 You're sounding like another OP on threads about wanting hook-ups. She works in retail too. Just a similar vibe here: not taking sensible advice, repeating the same statements.

is this your first role or are you a hardened veteran of retail ?
