How many times do you change clothes during a typical day?

Scintillating question right?! 😄

Friend is staying with me and remarked upon how many times I change my clothes over the course of the day.
So I wake up, shower, then put on my outfit depending on whether I am WFH, going out to work or have a day off. Outfit also changes if I am planning on exercising or gardening. She thinks I’m bonkers as she is of the ‘one outfit fits all’ concept (apart from gym wear, she allows for that 😁)
We are long time friends so only jokingly ribbing each other, just interested in which stance you take?

I would change for gardening or cleaning
I would change for a muddy dog walk.
I would change if going out in the evening
i would change for the gym.

LittleSpeckleFrog · 31/03/2026 09:16

I wfh full-time so normally just dress for the day in the morning and then wouldn't change again until I'm getting in my pyjamas for bed.

Only exceptions would be if I'm going running, in which case I'd get dressed into running gear in the morning then change into my normal clothes after a shower, or if I was going out somewhere nicer, then I would probably get dressed into the nicer clothes in the morning, change into comfy clothes when I get back and then PJs for bed.

Don't think I would ever change more than that unless I spilled something all over myself/got soaked in the rain/muddy etc.

marcyhermit · 31/03/2026 09:18

I wear one outfit a day and only change if I'm going to the gym or for a night out.

Kepler22B · 31/03/2026 09:19

Pyjamas - day clothes (suitable for the majority of the day) - pyjamas.

Would change for exercise as not playing footie in my work dress! But other than that, one set of clothes for the day,

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 31/03/2026 09:19

Im one outfit, I’ve WFH for over 20 years so have a great collection of nice tops. Wear with jeans/jeggings or smart trousers. If dog walking put on boots, if going out to lunch/shop put on smart footwear, only would change in evening if going out fancy or the gym.

youalright · 31/03/2026 09:20

I would never change during the day unless doing something like decorating or swimming or gym but I never do the last 2 and decorating is like a once every few years thing

Ihad2Strokes · 31/03/2026 09:20

your post doesn't really match your question? Did you accept the Ai suggestion?

it depends on work (more formal clothing, not well suited to cooking/lounging in, then I'd change when I got home. But jobs with more casual clothing I wouldn't.

I'd change for gardening/decorating. I'd change (and shower) for going out for tge evening...

just depends....
My friends wife changes about 4 times a day inti similar type clothes, for no apparent reason. It's weird 🤪

since the stroke I can only dress like a toddler going to nursery! So leggings & tshirts, if I'm going out the house I'll wrangle a bra on, but it's just SO difficult, I'll avoid it when I can!

Randomchat · 31/03/2026 09:21

Change for exercise or muddy gardening or dog walking.

Change from smart work clothes to casual clothes after work.

Change into pjs in the winter when it's cold and dark and I'm not leaving the house again.

So I guess I can get through a few outfits in a day

EasterDecoration · 31/03/2026 09:21

One outfit apart from exercise/gardening, possibly change if going out in the evening. At the weekend I might put on gardening clothes and spend the day in them so long as they don't get dirty, which they don't most of the time.

Geont · 31/03/2026 09:22

I just change once in the morning and wear lounge wear after getting home, which I wear to bed so don't bother with PJs. I'd change for the gym, but tend to work out at home (no one else here) and I often just strip to undies and a sports bra for that.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 31/03/2026 09:23

Normally Pilates/yoga clothes first thing. If I'm going out afterwards I will change into day clothes. If not I'll do any errands/house work in my fitness wear and my next change will be into my pyjamas.

Ashkrevon · 31/03/2026 09:26

get up - get dressed

change for messy work (gardening, painting, running) or going out

PensionMention · 31/03/2026 09:26

I almost always change in to my inside clothes, very comfy leggings or loose trousers and a baggy jumper or hoody. In summer my inside clothes are
some slightly worn out linen loose fitting dresses that I bought in Italy many years ago. All about the comfort.

Planesmistakenforstars · 31/03/2026 09:27

Change to go cycling
Change to do other exercise
Change to go to work (outdoor job)
Change to lounge around at home
Change to go to the shops, walk etc
Change to go out out
Change to go to bed

I'd not do all of those in one day though. So 3-5 times a day.

CharliesAngles · 31/03/2026 09:27

@Ihad2Strokes Yes, yes I did, is it so obvious? 🤭
I couldn't be bothered to come up with one, I'll try harder next time!

Other difference between us is, she is a bra off as soon as we're in person, whereas I'm firmly in the bra on unless I'm showering camp!
I think I am in the minority here, as I know
MN is fond of the bra off stance 😂

This!

Cannedlaughter · 31/03/2026 09:28

I put easy / comfy clothes on for round the house, something a bit more presentable when going out the house and PJs at night. So I may get up put joggers on, change into something smarter, come home and get the joggers back on.

imusthavebrokenamirror · 31/03/2026 09:29

On a day at home
out of bed into jodhpurs
change in to jeans to go shopping/ visiting etc
change into gym clothes
back into jods
pyjamas

on a working day…….
work clothes
jodhpurs
pj’s

Flintstonerubble · 31/03/2026 09:29

I start the day with a shower and a clean set of clothes. I don’t change again till pyjama time unless I was meeting/visiting someone and I might wear a different top to look a bit tidier.

I’m in my 70’s and live by what my Mum used to say to me when I was 12. You wouldn’t be so fond of all the outfit changes for no reason if you were the one doing the washing and ironing 😆

countrygirl99 · 31/03/2026 09:30

At the moment way too often as my horse has strangles so is in strict biosecurity. I put tatty clothes on first thing to muck out. Those go in the laundry as soon as I get home. Shower and clothes for whatever I'm doing in the day. Then back to tatty clothes for evening stables. Those go in the aundry, shower and PJs for the evening. Yard clothes are the oldest of the old as all the washing is wrecking stuff.

Ineedanewsofa · 31/03/2026 09:33

Get up and get dressed for the day
Get changed into scruffs to go and muck out the horses/walk the dog/do the garden
Get changed into gym kit
Get into shower and PJs
My DM used to get changed into ‘house clothes’ the minute she came home from work and would change out of them to leave the house at the weekend. I still definitely have that mental separation between house clothes/scruffs and ‘out of the house’ clothes

Bbq1 · 31/03/2026 09:34

One outfit as a rule, two if I've been to the gym. Will also change if going out for the night. Would never change just midway through the day for no reason. The washing pile is never ending as it is!

How does the post not match the question?😕 The post is exactly about the question.

ThatSilhouette · 31/03/2026 09:34

A few times due to having animals, exercising and needing to have clean clothes for everything else.

midgetastic · 31/03/2026 09:35

I would change for mucky jobs or gym or a special night out but I wouldn’t be putting everything straight into the laundry basket - many things could be worn the next day or two
