Why was I published on Facebook!

How do I get my thread off Facebook??? I thought this was a safe space to discuss things. I know my sister isn’t on Mumsnet but she is on Facebook!!! How do I get it off??

I will never post on this again! This is not a safe space.

That’s how the internet works. You post something and the world can see it. You’re anonymous though, what’s the problem?

Yetanothernewname1 · 29/03/2026 10:40

No Idea to help but I feel for you. It’s one of the reasons I am very careful about what I post on here and regularly change names.

Ginghamtablecloth · 29/03/2026 10:41

well like I said in the post I hate confrontation and while I was looking for advice on how to confront sister I’d rather she didn’t red that on the internet.

You are posting on the WWW and it's clear in the Mumsnet T&C's that they own the content and can share it across platforms.

No the Internet is not "a safe space".

That said, I'm sure they'll delete it if you contact them directly.

Then don’t write about it in the internet?

I think if you post online about your family, you need to consider that they might come across it and recognise themselves

You’ve been a bit naive about the internet here.

AnneLovesGilbert · 29/03/2026 10:44

Of course it’s not a safe space. MN has literally millions of posters from across the world. If you want confidential advice pay a therapist or ask a friend.

Onebattleafteramother · 29/03/2026 10:44

Oh yeah I forgot they do that. I'm so sorry op. I don't have FB so I forget that happens...maybe go to site stuff and ask MNHQ directly.

It's awful I don't think it's ok, idk why but it just feels wrong, like if you wanted to post on FB, you'd...post on FB.

I think they shouldn't do it

Does your sister follow the mumsnet Facebook page? It would be odd if she did that and didn't use mumsnet too?

TheAutumnCrow · 29/03/2026 10:45

@Ginghamtablecloth Email MNHQ on this email address and ask for it to be removed from Facebook as it's causing you distress:

I found MN through a random posting on FB. I’d never heard of MN, much less followed them. It just showed up in my feed.

BenedictsButton · 29/03/2026 10:47

Someone said to me once that you have to consider before posting something publicly, would I want to turn the corner and see my post/photo on a billboard? If the answer is no, don’t share it.

I think Facebook throws suggested pages into feeds nowadays so it isn’t necessarily something she’d follow, but the algorithm might put it there regardless if it thinks she’d be interested.

Ask MNHQ to remove it.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 29/03/2026 10:48

This is where MN is unfair as all social media is, it PRETENDS it is here to be a safe space/supportive but it is a business, here to earn ££ for the owners by driving traffic to the site - they do this by putting popular threads and clickbait on other sites. A huge no of people joined after the famous "penis beaker" thread for example. I am sorry OP.

LiloLido · 29/03/2026 10:54

I'm puzzled. I know they 'sell' threads to the Daily Fail but how did your thread end up on Facebook? Is it an advert or something?

MouseCheese87 · 29/03/2026 10:55

Why would you assume it's a safe space? When you post on the Internet you accept it's out there for anyone to read. You have no way of knowing what people you know personally are or aren't on MN or any chat forum. So it's wise not to go in too much detail to avoid something very specific being recognised. However, I think the chances of that are relatively low.

Thingcanonlygetbetter · 29/03/2026 10:57

It’s highly unlikely that your sister will see the post if she is not in mumsnet. The algorithms wouldn’t bring up the posts. I wouldn’t worry

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 29/03/2026 10:58

I would consider myself fairly switched on but I didn’t think posts from MN could end up on Facebook. Although I’m careful not to put anything identifying, I still wouldn’t be particularly comfortable having some of my posts end up elsewhere.

Agreed.

Under what 'banner' is it on Facebook?

An advert?
Someone else's FB account?

It doesn't really make sense to me.

What's puzzling about MN having a Facebook page and posting threads on it?

Your algorithms must be completely different to others, I actually had a conversation with a group of friends about this last week

We all got suggested posts about totally random things with no connection to what they follow, that's how FB works, I think you're being a bit naive

Have you not seen the “share” buttons on all posts?

Do you not have a “share” tab on your browser?

Aside from which MN is on facebook/x/instagram

Do you think that you can't identify a situation you're involved in because it's posted anonymously?

There are threads all the time on here about how posters have identified people they know, it's obvious what the problem is

You don’t need to follow mumsnet to get pushed their posts it happens to me all the time.

OP unfortunately I don’t think your understanding of chat forums has kept up with the times. They now advertise their posts to get engagement across different platforms
