We had a holiday to Mexico booked.
It cost £3,900
Every month i have been transferring him £300 for 6 months for my half.
He has told me today its been cancelled as he only paid the £500 deposit
He said he was borrowing in to the money and was going to pay it back but before he knew it he had to find the £3,400 and could only pay £2,000 off it so Tui have cancelled it.

Im so angry
He’s told me he will just book it last minute in June and we can still okay.
He said from next month he’s putting away £1,000
Im so mad

How long have you been dating? I don’t think I could be with a man who has a toxic relationship with money. If you continue, what’s to stop him from pulling silly moves re: mortgages, etc, and hiding it from you until there is a foreclosure? 🚩🚩🚩

This is 100% financial abuse

Abd80 · 24/03/2026 21:16

You’re an absolute fool is you stay with this guy

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/03/2026 21:16

She didn’t reply back on her other thread so prob won’t here

you were silly to give him money. You know he can’t be trusted

If reading replies @inkyspells he’s an addict and he will bring you down so split up

ACynicalDad · 24/03/2026 21:18

doesn't read like you have kids with him, which is a good thing. I would not make a life with someone like this. If you have to make him send your money back and his monthly savings and let you manage it, but really he's not a good prospective life partner.

WhistPie · 24/03/2026 21:51

What's the point of starting all these threads about someone who's ripping you off, gambling, yet you post & run, do nothing then come back with another thread moaning about him?

No sympathy

It's ragebait.

Lavender14 · 24/03/2026 21:59

Just to clarify, he's been taking £300 per month from you and putting that into the holiday but not his own £300 to match it, or he's been taking your £300 and keeping it and the only money spent on the holiday is £500 total?

Either way this is a massive breach of trust op.

I'd need to sit down with him and see full finances to establish exactly where the money has gone and why he doesn't have it. Gambling or some other form of addiction was my immediate thought and you need to get a very clear picture of that right now. I'd also be very concerned that he is in other debt so I think you need to go digging.

In terms of your mortgage/ rent who is responsible for paying that? If you have a car on finance or other similar important bills who pays those? I think you need to make a list of all that and then I'd ask for statements as proof of payment.

Gambling is a really difficult mindset to break until you know exactly what you're working with and if you're married then his debts are essentially yours. I'd also be running a credit check on yourself to be sure he hasn't got tempted into opening anything in your name using your details.

If he's not willing to do this then I actually couldn't continue the marriage because I'd be worried that everything I was working for and investing in was being secretly undermined by him. He needs help with his financial management and that could be CAP for debt advice or it could be a specialist addiction service for Gambling or other but until you know what you're working with you can't even signpost him properly.

I’d be furious !

if he’s gambled it away the relationship would be over.

riceuten · 24/03/2026 22:02

Gambler, indubitably.

Run for the hills

Usernamenotav · 24/03/2026 22:09

Is this new behaviour? I assume so if you trusted him with the money in the first place. Why is he booking holidays when he's clearly struggling for money? Gambling? Drugs?

Retiredfromearlyyears · 24/03/2026 22:32

Cut your losses and dump him. He’s a Loser

OP started a thread previously saying he’s got a gambling problem so think we can guess where her money has gone

momtoboys · 24/03/2026 22:47

Wait…he spent the money you had given him towards the holiday? I would be beyond furious

Morrisdancer24 · 24/03/2026 22:51

Are you joking with this post? For christ sakes, run for the hills

LoudSnoringDog · 24/03/2026 22:53

Well given the history, you’re a bit daft aren’t you for giving him £300 pm?

canisquaeso · 24/03/2026 23:06

Worse than losing the holiday is the fact that he misused the money you transferred him.

ClairDeLaLune · 25/03/2026 00:09

OP started another thread saying he was a gambler, then never came back to the thread. Like this thread.

Don’t bother spending ages replying anyone, you’re wasting your time.

trumpisruin · 25/03/2026 00:12

I guess the OP feels overwhelmed with it all and is somewhat in denial?

LilWoosmum82 · 25/03/2026 00:32

Get your money back. If he thinks he can get away with this more will follow, ive been there. Dump him as soon as you have the money back

So what's he done with your money?

Albanaus · 25/03/2026 01:31

How am I going to get my money back from my ex boyfriend who stole from me?

This should have been your title.

caringcarer · 25/03/2026 02:55

If you know he's a gambling addict why did you trust him with money? Honestly OP it's like giving g an alcoholic a bottle of gin to look after them being surprised he's drunk it. Bin him off. You will never know peace or contentment as long as you stay with him.

Cantbelieveit888 · 25/03/2026 04:37

He sounds absolutely fucking awful. I could never ever be with a person like that. What a liar and completely incompetent with money… what on earth did he spend it on?

BIN HIM OFF
