It’s hard to plan for insanity though…

Warning signs were there so it wouldn't be that far fetched to plan for it.

The 🍊 cult signal gone off?

Weird signal - just been on a thread where there are people upset about people existing in their own roads I think - amazing - distraction from the direness today though.

I do think NASA will have a ‘war’ standard operating procedure and will have looked at this.

I once heard a theory that Challenger’s issue was actually noted, but overlooked as it was on a PP and so sort of skimmed over by the viewers - I like to think they’re more thorough than that. I think it was to impress on us the uselessness of many apps.

The UK has evacuated its forces from Iraq, The i Paper reports.

Reform again on newsnight showing how thick they are.

Fucking hell, they are full of shit- claiming Iran was a danger to us but not being able to back it. They've clearly swallowed Trumps cool aid.

DuncinToffee · 07/04/2026 23:00

Farage is also saying that Kanye West should not have been barred from the UK Hmm

They started the day banning visas for people with no links to antisemitism/Nazis.

Laila Cunningham

A grifter and totally inept - the two go together.

DuncinToffee · 07/04/2026 23:49

Good news, Trumps has backed off and given Iran another 2 weeks.

Thanks Duncin.
Yes, great news for the world that Trump did his usual taco.

Now we need to get his arse into the Hague.

Cleverley is having a hard time accepting that Starmer got it right

Cleverley has a hard job with much that requires thought - how does he fit into nominative determinism ha?

James who? I had forgotten he existed tbh.

But reading what he has said, I feel he is somewhat behind the times. Everything has changed in the past few weeks and America's standing in the eyes of the world is diminished.

This is the signature flaw in low energy thinkers. A failure to imagine a world where things other than your single point of focus may change around you.

Which is a shame. as the real world runs on differential equations.

I’m trying to find myself gentle and mindful activities to do and have started a small embroidery I had hanging around (a Victorian 8 year old would be embarrassed about the unevenness of the stitches, but hey ho) and have bought some small cross stitch book marks to make. I think listening to a (not enraging) podcast while doing them would be good. Any recommendations? I currently listen to Rest is Politics (enraging), Rest Is Entertainment and James O’Brien’s Full Disclosure. I’ll probs look at some of the Rest Is History back catalogue.

DuncinToffee · 08/04/2026 10:52

I do not really do podcasts often but I like Alex Andreou's 'Quiet Riot' and his 'Podyssey' on Greek mythology

These may not be for you as less informative/documentary style but I really like dramas on BBC sounds (also Radio Echoes) - there’s a huge variety of general drama, crime, romance, literary stuff, etc. there’s also a comedy section which has some great stuff on.

Rex Factor and it's worthy acolyte Totalius Rankium are good if you like your history #RememberAed #RememberGermanicus.

Taskmaster podcast can be good. And I will report back on the Last One Laughing podcast.

Off Menu ?

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2026 11:48

I'm reading Year of the Rat about a journalist who infiltrated British far right groups. Fascinating, frightening, but probably not a gentle diversion!

@PiggywaspushedSnap! I am currently listening to year of the rat. 🐀

Cheguevarahamster · 08/04/2026 13:04

I used to love My Dad wrote a porno (which was hilarious).

I like :
Newsagents
Oh god what now
Rest is politics (US and UK)
British Scandal
I need to listen to Podyssey (its in my feed)

I love audio books and my favourites at the moment are Rivers of London Series, Stranger Times and the Dublin Trilogy.

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2026 13:05

Does he narrate it himself?
That must be quite an - immersive- listening experience!

I have just finished to Paul Golding bit and he certainly brings him to life on the page. I enjoyed the bit where they visit the lovely village (forgotten its name even though it's on my local news all the time) and keep being told to go away. And their Peak District festival.
