I wasn't born either!

Sorry- enjoying the rare opportunity of being a youngster.

placemats · 02/04/2026 13:01

We were youngsters when we viewed the first one and felt like that watching yesterday's launch.

Cape Kennedy was one of the best days out I’ve ever had. I cried all the way round especially in the room where they simulate Mission Control at take off. Just astonishing to put your faith in other humans like that.

I won’t hear a word against William Shatner’s version of Common People. I reserve my judgement on the Ace of Spades.

Highly amused by my 88 year old DM this morning. Going through her mail she had a letter from Reform and had written ‘Return To Sender’ on the envelope in block caps. Even with Alzheimer’s and NPH she’s not fooled by them.

Edited

I visited mission control in 1990. Was incredibly lucky it was open.

Also saw the rocket engine test facility in Mississippi. In December (1990). The only visitors they had that week. Again very lucky. They'd just spend weeks testing the new shuttle engines.

BestIsWest · 02/04/2026 13:41

I’m very jealous @SerendipityJane. We didn’t get to see a shuttle at Kennedy as it was being moved that week. We visited the Intrepid in New York the week after and they had a Shuttle there but it was under a giant tarpaulin!

Edit to add that I did go on the Space shuttle simulator ride. The nearest I got.

Latest poll has Labour down to just EIGHT members of parliament

Polls for hire. Don't worry - we'll never reveal our methodology.

What did they do to get that result? Go to a reform convention and ask the speakers!

They really are desperate.

Just watching the news and it brought back memories of us taking the dc to Goonhilly space observatory and the kids talking to kids visiting Nasa.

A bit random there, but rocket related.

Do you have a link for the seat projection please? I can find the poll but not the seat projection.

Maybe use 'what three words'?

I didn't listen to the speech, but if I had it wouldn't have been for the entertainment value.

It was the delivery that felt flat. The very sober tone was correct, but from about the words “So - on our economy, on our energy and on our defence - this time will be different.
We will make Britain a fairer and more secure country because that hope is what is needed as the country comes together and because how we emerge from this crisis will define us for a generation.”

I felt it didn’t change tone in the way he spoke.
I believe fully Labour is doing the best it can after the mess it was left and is happening now.

No we shouldn’t need a leader with more charisma - times this serious should be enough but polls show otherwise

RantyRant3555 · 02/04/2026 18:38

I was well after the moon landings. Been watching and it is exciting.

Just like polls. Why on earth are people so obsessed with polls when there’s another three years before the next general election?

DuncinToffee · 02/04/2026 18:45

Remember we weren't allowed to mention polls just before and during the GE?

😂😂😂😂

If it is, I want Saturday's Lottery numbers.

RantyRant3555 · 02/04/2026 18:57

I was thinking more polls for May

placemats · 02/04/2026 18:58

Things must be going bad for the far right at the moment and ejector seats in operation for the leader.

PandoraSocks · 02/04/2026 18:58

Ah. I have managed to find out the source of the seat projection @ProudAmberTurtle posted. Forgive me if I take it with a massive pinch of salt. For starters, no explanation of the methodology. And then there's the pinned tweet...which suggests there could be a lack of impartiality. I don't think that account is a fan of Labour.

We’re not voting for parliamentary seats in May.
