I guess they couldn't say anything else with Farage's school days racism claims in mind

A spokesperson for Reform said: "We're not willing to write people off forever because of mistakes they made when they were young."

It brings to mind the joke: "I once was a werewolf but I'm all right nooooowww!

PandoraSocks · 27/03/2026 15:00

This is superb from the Greens. Labour take note.

countrygirl99 · 27/03/2026 15:12

That was excellent

I'll watch it when I get whatever it is in my eye out.

That man knows empathy 💚

Someone's mum making sure the kids piped down the noise because the men were sleeping
Mum carrying the tiffin tin to her husband for lunch
Mum's crying over bills
Mrs Thatcher

Those were the good old days for women/mums.

In Sheffield.

The good in the past was never contingent on the bad. That's why the whole "I wish I lived in the 1870s" spiel from Reform and their associated arse cheeks is so plain wrong.

BIossomtoes · 25/03/2026 17:32

That’s brilliant, really engaging and snappy without a mic stand in sight.

Oh.
My.
God.

He's at it again.

If UK progressive parties could harness 1% of this energy, we'd never hear from Farage again

I don't think he was saying those were the good old days. Just explaining where he comes from and what things were like for his family.

Whatever one personally thinks of the Greens and Ali himself, there is no denying that it is a very well made and powerful piece of political advertising that focuses on hope not hate.

Eta: not sure if I have misunderstood where you are coming from Placemats, apologies if I have!

placemats · 27/03/2026 16:57

They weren't the good old days for women, I meant it sarcastically.

Yes I got that! Just wasn't sure whether you also meant that you think Ali is seeing the past as "the good old days" in the video?

placemats · 27/03/2026 17:10

In what way was it powerful in that it focused on hope not hate; white, black and brown male workers. people coming together?

To be positive the sentence should end in a positive, so ''rather than the focus on hate, it's on hope'.

That's standard for all left/centre parties. Hope and change for the good. It's a start for the Green Party, especially in a city that was heavily industrialised.

There was always a weird green streak to the Nazis.

PickAChew · 27/03/2026 17:31

I think the issue is that we hear so much of the hate, now, and it's getting louder and more vicious. The so called family voting is just one example of it.

We've even been hearing hate coming from the current government so it's almost a shock to the system to hear someone talking with compassion, even about the people who hurl insults at him.

Vegetarianism with a knapsack and a love for drag queens?

DuncinToffee · 27/03/2026 18:21

Will it get as much attention as the original allegations 🤔

MRD applies.

Remember we live in a country where some people have been willing to state they don't understand why it has to be the person getting the most votes who wins.

DuncinToffee · 27/03/2026 18:23

So predictable.

Eta: what exactly does he mean by "the establishment"? Does he think the Government would cover up to benefit the Greens?

DuncinToffee · 27/03/2026 18:43

Yes, entirely predictable.

Notonthestairs · 27/03/2026 18:48

Yes, the Blob is famously Green leaning. Humphrey Appleby was all about wind.

But thank heavens, in an uncertain world, Farage's victim mentality remains a touchstone.
