How many bras do you own and how often do you change them and wash them ?

Came up in conversation with a friend who is now saying Im strange 🙄. I live in Southern Europe, in the winter I wear a bra for 1-2 days, in the summer I tend to change every day/ sometimes twice a day. I usually have 10-12 bras on rotation.
Friend says 4-5 days is fine and Im a clean freak.

I only have two bras as I’ve recently lost weight (one nude and one black). They’re Fantasie wired bras. I change them every day (it’s underwear) and wash in a Brabantia bra bag to preserve their life! I don’t keep bras for too long as they loose their elasticity and shape and then look awful - especially on someone with a big bust like me - 34GG. I’m going to buy some new bras soon, but have recently replaced my swimsuits and they’re expensive in a bra size.

They're worn next to the skin and not far from armpits, so no way would I wear one for nearly a week! That's like wearing knickers and socks for a few days!

It's not at all like re-wearing knickers, considering what can get on to those. And feet tend to get a lot more sweaty than the boob area. I don't think it's comparable at all.

I do often wonder how many laundry loads some MNers do per day/week, what with this and the obsession with changing PJs daily.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/03/2026 12:26

I mostly wear Uniqlo bra tops now and I'll wear that for one day in the summer and two in the winter or when I'm just slouching around the house. I wear sports bras to the gym and tend to wear them twice as they're not on for long and I mostly do strength training not cardio.

There's about 50 in my drawer but only about 12 fit. Of those 12 I probably wear about 5 , but I change them daily. I always wash them by hand so they last better.

That sounds like me!

At first glance it looks like i have lots of choice but most of them are not everyday bras.

YourWinter · 23/03/2026 12:27

I have six bras. Three non-wired, lightly padded, super comfortable, that I rotate and usually wear for two or three consecutive days. Two M&S underwired bras worn only for going out, if my top requires something lower cut. One Under Armour sports bra that is comfy once it’s on but such a struggle to get into, it’s a workout in itself. I can’t run nowadays and it’s a nostalgic reminder of the days when I could run, ride a horse, cycle…

I have 2 bras and change it every 5-7 days (probably), but I'm blessed with the no BO gene (although it also codes for dry ear wax which has turned into an invisible form of torture in perimenopause).

Edited

Is this really a thing? The no BO?

I ask because because i think i have it!!

Dartania · 23/03/2026 12:32

I have about 20, plus 6 sports bras. I change them daily. If I’m home all day, I’ll often just wear soft crop tops from M&S, but they get washed after one wear too.

I bung everything in the machine and the dryer, even the fancy ones (they’re not really fancy, Bravissimo Millies).

BiteSizeByzantine · 23/03/2026 12:36

I've currently got three Victoria's Secret t-shirt bras but they're on their last legs, and were terrible quality to begin with. Where can I get decent padded t shirt bras from? I'm so fed up with them never being quite right

Walker1178 · 23/03/2026 12:37

Around 10 in various colours, each has 2 pairs of matching pants so yeah 1-2 days is normal here.

HoraceCope · 23/03/2026 12:38

i dont change every day unless i get particularly sweaty

I can’t believe most people change their bras every day! The only time I’ll not wear a bra again without washing it is the ones I wear to the gym. Regular days I go at least a week without washing my bra. I have about 4 I actually wear regularly. Am I gross? 🤢

no, you're not gross, but that habit is a bit!

bras absorb sweat, like socks, you're fortunate not to gave sore skin underneath your boobs, or your bras smell a bit.
Before the stroke I'd wear a clean one daily, since the stroke I only wear one when absolutely necessary (hospital appointments, socially if meeting up with people outside the house) so only for a couple of hours, so I wear them a few times before washing them, mainly because they're easier to put on after the first wear! 😂)

angelcake20 · 23/03/2026 12:45

I change mine every other day, and I usually count myself as quite scummy. I have probably own about 20, but only about half of them fit (I will lose weight again one day, honest!). I’m fairly small of chest so they’re always cheap in a Sainsbury’s sale and I don’t get the under boob sweat.

nowayho · 23/03/2026 12:47

I can see that I’m totally gross after reading these comments 🤣🤣🤣

MabelAnderson · 23/03/2026 12:50

About 60 ? I’ve never counted them. My weight goes up and down (thyroid problem) so at any given time only a smaller chunk of those will fit me. I generally wear a bra two days running in the Winter and one day in warmer weather, like you op.

I agree, I will wear my bra for 3 or 4 days, my knickers are changed daily.
I have about 15 bras, 10 fancy, the rest are more practical, which I wear a lot more often because they are the most comfortable.

whirlyhead · 23/03/2026 12:52

I swear the reason most mumsnetter's are stressed and say there aren't enough hours in the day is because they're spending them cleaning the house repeatedly, getting changed and doing mountains of washing!

I change bras every 2 - 3 days and I will happily wear socks for 3 days as well. My feet neither sweat nor smell, and I've been doing this for years and have still never once had to go to hospital and go to the doctor about every 10 years so can only assume that health wise, it's doing me no harm (I'm late 50s).

It’s very common in SE Asia. Korean people don’t often need deodorant for instance. SE Asians also have the dry ear wax gene.

Ask Andrew...he knows a lot about the NO-BO gene, I hear!

daffodilandtulip · 23/03/2026 12:56

I have five normal ones and two sports. I wear them for 2-3 days but I’m very much a “work’s done, bra off” person. And my sports bras are washed each time.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/03/2026 13:00

Sports bras are washed every time, unless it’s a very gentle yoga session. Normal bras every 3-4 wears I’d say. I’m not sweaty person. That still means I’m washing around 9 bras a week - that’s enough I reckon.

I have about 40 bras I’d say. Plus bralets I wear around the house.

Linenspots · 23/03/2026 13:00

I must be gross too, I change mine every 3 days if I'm not doing anything more than working at home. More often if I'm out and about.

And whilst on this subject, I have got the massive arse with M&S - they discontinued my bra! It's all I wear now, and I'm gutted they've stopped doing it.

It's from the 'Body' range and just the basic, full cup, underwired version (not the one with the lace sides). They always had hundreds of them in all different colours, so I assumed they were popular, obviously not. The store assistant I was talking to said they have replaced it with a demi cup version, which she said doesn't fit anywhere near the same way and that people are complaining about!

ChocolateBasket · 23/03/2026 13:01

Blimey. I wear mine for a good 3-4 days.
I only have 4, but they were about £90 each and have to go on hand wash cycle so there's no way I'm washing them after every use.

Funnily enough they don't smell after 3 wears.

WhatAPavalova · 23/03/2026 13:01

I have underwire bras that aren’t up in my armpit, these I might wear for work day or going out. I may wear a good few times as I don’t sweat much (I’m not Prince Andrew) and they get damaged in washing machine.

Otherwise (mostly) I now wear sports bras, not sexy, they wash fine and can wash them more regularly. I don’t do any sports or exercise but my laundry looks like an athlete.

aWeeCornishPastie · 23/03/2026 13:05

i feel shamed lol. I don’t have many bras at all but I honestly wear mine for weeks on end 🥹

mcmuffin22 · 23/03/2026 13:07

I wear for a few days. Different in the summer, but wasn't it Vivienne Westwood who claimed never to wash her bras?
