A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@boys3

On the MRP poll I posted this morning, BP is expected to lose her seat to Reform, so yeah, she's a gonner.
I was shocked to see that Lammy will keep his seat! Just how ffs!

I would love a conservative council, so very envious of yours. It'll never happen here, we'll probably get Reform. Good to hear that Labour and the Conservatives manage to co-exist as grown ups where you live.

By the way how long have we had Albanian crime gangs operating in the UK?
Burglaries from yorks to Warwickshire some on immigration warrants ?
Indont remeber hearing much about this before blairs workers rights drop ?

Well, I would say they were operating in London from the late 90s.

Don't know about the rest of the country though

SapphireCasino · 14/04/2026 20:31

Looking at the general picture

There's no plan for reviving our defence because there's no money

I bet there's no plan for how to handle petrol shortages because there's no real planning ability - as I said too many times, Lord knows what is going on with our infrastructure, I don't think we've had a government who are capable of doing the important basic stuff for a very long time.

Ursula von de Leyer has already said something like "the cheapest energy is the energy that doesn't get used" (not verbatim) so I suppose there will be restrictions on using it.

wish I lived where you do! My local council has been Labour led for many years. Labour actually has fewer councillors than the Conservatives but Labour is propped up by “grouped” Independents who support Labour on everything so may as well be Labour. But they probably know they have more chance of being elected with an Independent label…even though that’s not how they act once elected.

SapphireCasino · 14/04/2026 20:38

Also, I know I moan about it a lot

The broader cultural issue that so many people seem to be incapable now definitely applies to government. And we've talked about their work backgrounds before. Direct link if you ask me. Though I'm not convinced Boris Johnson's government was any better - but they did show remarkable efficiency in their scaremongering and vaccine programme, so some planning ability did exist there.

TheNuthatch · 14/04/2026 21:10

Detailed polling for May from the DT. There's a postcode checker if anyone wants to see a local projection. These upcoming elections will be seismic. In my Labour stronghold, they are about to get trounced by Reform.

Wales - you have my sympathy. Lord help you with PC in charge.

From yesterday's Telegraph: A sobering read about the state of our economy compounded by our totally inept "leaders".

You can really feel his frustration when you read that. He's spot on.
Our govt have done nothing, and think they can get away with it by having meetings, and saying 'not our war'. Piss up and brewery spring to mind.

Yes, and that lot would make sure someone else was picking up the tab.

SapphireCasino · 14/04/2026 21:54

@TheNuthatch thank you for the article that's really interesting

I did not realise that Havering were being offered the chance to secede from London and I live in Essex so I'm surprised I don't know that. I don't think Havering should be part of London anyway, I don't really understand how London ended up swallowing some of these places

Anyway, I am a bit annoyed to see that my local area is showing an increase in support for the Greens, albeit a small one

I thought Essex folk were more sensible than that!

I got sent the NIHR survey today. I'd actually never heard of it. I'm thinking it's probably a good idea to ignore it. I don't really have anything to say, but I would like to say that things run quite well here. An extra government interference wouldn't help with that.

Perhaps I just send that note back in the prepaid envelope!

probably better to just fill it in, or fill it in as best as I can and put all the emphasis on potholes....

you can virtually see the agenda in the questions.

Andrew Neil on defence (or, rather, lack of it) - how Starmer-Reeves would rather give money to people to stay at home than worry about national security.

IMO, neither of them have the intellectual ability to understand the issue; it goes completely over their heads.

The numbers quoted for welfare and net-zero in that article are staggering! It's crazy.

Lord Robertson is now the second of the three authors of the strategic defence review to speak out (Barrons being the other). Tan Dhesi (Labour MP and chair of the defence committee) also agrees with Robertson.

I see the left are now trying to rubbish his reputation by claiming links to the USA in a pathetic attempt to defend their precious Starmer. 🙄

Just listening to an interesting analyst (Cambridge) on Times radio. Carbon tax and other pressures shut a couple of refineries here in 2025 that provide jet fuel. More at risk.

’just four major refineries remaining in 2026 following the shutdowns of Grangemouth (2025) and Lindsey (2025)’

She was very knowledgeable about Qatar and foreign policy, not sure if Times has playback. Would have to listen again to do her justice.

Ik. Of course they’ll try to discredit. Anything for Starmer and co.

That carbon tax closing refineries and making us more reliant on the Gulf to fly out of here. You can’t use solar powered wind powered planes, Ed / Starmer.

Yep to May 7th.

Sorry behind a pay wall for me. These polls are often carried out at universities in Wales. The way plaid are attacking reform and reading local groups Plaid really don't have it in the bag yet. We haven't forgotten that because Labour had a minority Plaid jumped straight into bed with them and we had three years of nodding donkeys.

justasking111 · 15/04/2026 12:29

I'm watching Ireland very closely they're our neighbours. There's upsets else in Europe. Things are very fluid. If rhe Irish government have to bring in the army they've lost the high ground

Sorry its paywalled for you. I gifted the article, so no idea why you can't access it.
I hope you're right about Plaid. Some of the stuff I've seen written about them recently is scary.

The interview you heard sounds really interesting. Milliband needs sacking.
Don't give Red Ed any ideas about solar/wind powered planes, he's already mad as a box of frogs. 😬

It was commented elsewhere that plans flying to London from Dubai will be able to return with full tanks. EU green laws prevent EU countries from doing this because flying with heavier bunkers uses marginally more fuel.

DancingFerret · 15/04/2026 16:05

I managed to miss PMQs today, but apparently Starmer took offence with being reprimanded by Hoyle and had a spat at him on his way out of the chamber.

Our esteemed leader is clearly a very easily-rattled bunny in the lead-up to 7 May. <evil grin>

No no Reeves is totally on top of it - she’s now at risk of having us buried under more US tariffs as the mad man is blaming her for blaming him…she’s ’frustrated and angry’ - isn’t this the time she’s supposed to be, ummm, conveying control?
