A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

How are they going to spin the latest economic news? It will probably just be ignored.

Tories fault innit?

Its the most expensive I've seen on my route, but yeah I was shocked. I filled up at Cambridge services where it was £1.89.

A Shell garage near us (which is always loads dearer than elsewhere) was 205.9 the other day! God knows who buys from there as it's not far to plenty of other petrol stations.

boys3 · 14/04/2026 17:30

For fans of dark humour - though in truth there is nothing remotely funny about it - some Labour MPs, the thinkers 🤔, have published a series of essays called Common Endeavour. Though have missed the an exercise in denial sub-heading that this endeavour actually warrants. The general gist seems to be that it’s all somebody else’s fault.

Grim.

Just read the response from Reeves. I won't copy it here as it's pointless reading it tbh.
She didn't offer any explanation as to why the UK has been downgraded more than any other major economy, blah blah, then ended with "more to do".
She's like a stuck record.

Blimey!
The worst is yet to come according to BP, Shell etc. I think we'll see fuel protests soon. Yet the govt do precisely F.A.
The Resolution Foundation have predicted some whopping rises on food, energy, and mortgages by the end of the year.

Sam Coates is saying that he's hearing noises that Milliband is about to cave in on licences to drill the north sea.
Its very telling that this is his decision to make, not Starmer's.

@boys3 the thinkers 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not likely with this lot!

Indeed @TheNuthatch .

On a slightly different note does anyone know if the upcoming local elections in parts of England and Scottish and Welsh elections are counted overnight or more likely during the day on the Friday? Need to get my election results watching planned.

Christ. 'More to do' is her catchphrase, isn't it? How about reverse some of what is already done? That would be more useful!

They’re just ignoring it. I remember the IMF warning Reeves / Starmer and co to keep a buffer for an event.

At time of first budget. Of course they didn’t hear any of it and blew £70bn on borrowing and taxes and we have the event.

I can't find what I was reading on this sorry, but I believe some overnight, some not counted until the next day.
If I find it again, I'll post you a link.

Last time Wales started counting the next morning I seem to recall.

They can blame Trump for all of their failings now. That first budget doubled inflation and took out businesses (including mine).
Reeves should be a laughing stock at that forum.

I don’t think it’ll save them. They’re just hiding on this but it’s going to be severe.

I agree they’ll definitely try though.

Yep, governments don't survive that. Their first 18 months has put us in an awful position to withstand and shocks.
Labour supporters on here still blaming the tories for post Covid and Ukraine inflation hikes. The boot's on the other foot now, so I reserve the right to do the same to Labour.

They didn’t keep a buffer when advised they should. Now they’re hiding and it’s incoming.

Has anybody else watched - even partly - the Rachel Reeves MN question session?

Leaving aside the vacuousness of her answers, my god she’s hard to listen to. I forget how bad she is between speeches and interviews. Then it all comes back immediately.

I could overlook all that if she was a great thinker, but she isn’t, she’s a third-rate time server with a dodgy CV.

TheNuthatch · 14/04/2026 18:35

Found it @boys3 😁

Loads of data and charts to disect in this article too.
Unlike a general election, the results will not be obvious by the following morning. Some, including a few of the races in London, will be declared in the early hours of Friday, May 8, but for most — including Scotland and Wales — counting starts only later the same morning, with results in the middle of the afternoon.A final trickle of results will filter through on Saturday, May 10, to complete the set.

All this Covid blaming which goes on...don't they realise that Labour would've locked us down harder and for longer, and furlough would've still existed under them (they'd have maybe been more generous with the earnings cap)? We'd have been in just as bad, if not worse, a position had they been in government at the time.

Conversely, they're angry at so many having died due to releasing from lockdown / not locking down quickly enough (so that furlough wasn't needed as much).

You can't have it both ways!

No I haven't listened. I've read some of the comments on the questions thread from those whose questions were put to her. They don't seem impressed!
Reeves wrote in The Times this weekend, but I couldn't get through it. I could hear her waffling dalek voice in my head as I was reading. 😂

Great link @TheNuthatch Thanks! I do need to pay a lot more more attention to my Times subscription!

Does BP’s parliamentary seat fall in the Sunderland council area? From the expectation there it doesn’t bode well for her come GE time. She’ll be such a loss to parliament. Not.

Losing 2,000 councillors, if that is the outcome, should be a massive wake up call. I fear though it won’t.

we’ve a pretty decent conservative council here — no elections this year - but the conservative predicted losses are a worry. Rather bizarrely here the adjoining council is Labour, yet both councils are politically more “old school” if that is the right description, and work together in a number of areas even. Clearly they have political disagreements but seem to realise they both exist for local benefit, and particularly local economic benefit, not the other way round. Though I know which one I prefer to live in. 😀
