A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@NoWordForFluffy

I agree reform is tainted by all the really unsavoury stuff their reps make. They seem too new.

Kemi is good, I saw this morning a comment about Tory analysis showing that the lifting of the benefits cap will most benefit families in the Birmingham Leeds and Bradford regions.

Id like to see more comments hand in hand with back up analysis.

Succinct clear messages.

I hope everyone enjoyed Easter and the long weekend

Hopefully the fact that it's been quiet here shows that you did.

I just hopped on because I'm curious about something. I do feel things are going to get worse before they get better. Is that just me? Being really negative I'm not sure when they'll get better. So I'm not quite sure how to plan around it.

I overthink every penny I spend though!

I have stayed local this weekend - as I usually do. I'm seeing a lot more evidence of problems in the local area, the black market operating in the local area and just generally I feel as if the area has changed a lot in the last three years.

you can't think too much about this stuff or you'll go nuts. But I had some plans to do various trips within the UK this summer. My thinking is that I really ought to do them now - they aren't going to get cheaper are they? And more things are going to close down and they'll be more troubles in hospitality rather than less.

I find a lot of things feel like they're not worth it now but I spent so long dealing with elderly parent crises, I suppose it would be good for me to do them, regardless of what's coming or what will change.

DancingFerret · 07/04/2026 18:50

I think it's quiet here because the madness coming from the White House is currently dominating the news.

That said, I think I read something today that said the benefits bill now exceeds revenue from income tax by two percent which isn't a surprise, but it does demonstrate Reeves has been over-zealous in the implementation of her flawed Robin Hood policy.

Oh, and there was a televised interview with Phillipson where she lamely told the junior doctors they should call off their upcoming strike. Fat chance, the JCs know they have Labour over a barrel; Streeting must be tearing his hair out.

Mumsnet has been freezing and playing up over the weekend. We saw lots of family.

I'm thinking about Iran at the moment it really is a last ditch attempt by USA.

We've got Welsh elections coming up so lots of verbal spats on social media, on the oddest groups too. Plaid supporters in the main.

SapphireCasino · 07/04/2026 19:36

@justasking111 MN is odd, it seems to freeze and play up for different people at different times.

@DancingFerret that's interesting

I don't really look at the news in terms of traditional outlets

On my social media feed at the weekend, apart from NASA (who are doing a very good job with their social media) I mostly saw people complaining about the economic situation in the UK. The benefit balance featured heavily. I understand pensions are included in that figure and I don't think they should be but I could probably get hold of a figure without them.

I came home this afternoon and saw Trump's latest statement and obviously that has now taken over my social media feed

I appreciate my question seems rather odd in that context! But yeah, I just wondered what people thought about the economic future in the short and medium term. I realise it's incredibly dependent on what happens in the Middle East but I was sort of thinking separately to that.

so if you factor it out, even then I think things are pretty bad but maybe I'm being super negative.

DancingFerret · 08/04/2026 08:38

Starmer's globetrotting at the expense of taxpayers continues apace; he's travelling to the Gulf today to meet allies and "help" to ensure the SoH remains open during the ceasefire.

Is there anything that'll stop him jumping on a plane at the drop of a hat - you know, something like dealing with problems in the UK?

CruCru · 08/04/2026 08:55

Is the foreign secretary also going? If I were foreign secretary, I would be so irritated to have a PM who keeps muscling in on my role.

DameProfessorIDareSay · 08/04/2026 08:59

My heart sank when I saw The Bollard was heading over there. He’s just bound to make things worse somehow.
I see Iran are still attacking gulf states despite the ceasefire anyway.

TheNuthatch · 08/04/2026 09:33

Good morning 😁

Hope you've all had a lovely Easter. I'm just back from visiting family abroad, so haven't caught up with all the news yet.

🙄🙄🙄 At Starmer hot footing to the ME. He never fails to impress.
The last thing the ME needs right now is the bollard rocking up for a photo op.

There's other terrorists who might not want a ceasefire. The houthi

StatuteofLiberty · 08/04/2026 13:40

@DameProfessorIDareSay same.

Although I do think we need to congratulate labour on stopping Kanye performing

Haha. I know that feeling. I haven't read any other threads since I got back. Don't want to spoil my post holiday mood. 😎
They'll be blowing gaskets on the 8th May. 😂

DT article about Plaid Cymru candidates. Urgh.

A Plaid Cymru candidate shared a post calling for Rishi Sunak to be “put down” and another that mocked Israel two days after the Oct 7, 2023 terror attacks. Josh Rawcliffe, one of Plaid’s nominees in Casnewydd Islwyn, also shared jokes about a disgraced American singer who sexually abused children.

Labour’s trouncing in May will be a sight to behold.

I’m waiting for the “But…but…Boris!” posts. And the links to Bluesky whingers who tell us that Labour won a seat against the odds in some obscure place.

Schoolgirl in Dumfries (got my D places confused!) have been given rape alarms due to being harassed by asylum seekers that have been moved there.

Edited

That's completely vile.

Ha, yes the excuses will be very creative I suspect, even though Labour expected to come 3rd in Scotland and Wales.
