A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@CruCru I must be honest - I don't even know what had kicked off at that point with regards to the war so it didn't strike me as being odd.

Those sort of scheduled visits are quite a lot of palaver and I'm wondering what happened that would have warranted cancelling it?

meanwhile, I feel like Trump didn't say anything last night. Taking lessons from Starmer.

TheNuthatch · 02/04/2026 09:24

DancingFerret · 01/04/2026 17:54

Can't argue with this; Starmer's uttered nothing of substance since he took office.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/d51cc50dbaf882b7

Glad it's not just me who thought that. He explains it far more succinctly than my rant yesterday morning. 😂
I don't understand how anyone can think that was a good outing for bollard. Then again, is anybody still listening to him anyway?

Anyone else think Starmer and crew have worn out the overseas welcome mat. They've all been hanging around Westminster lately. No escape.

He's camping out in community centres.

Starmer's 39 jollies have cost £4.2million!
His trips individually have cost far more than Sunak's equivalent trips. Remember the mud Starmer used to throw at Sunak for using helicopters etc?
One rule for them, another rule for everyone else - as Rayner once said about the tories.

Starmer’s government increasing spending on foreign trips, figures show

PM’s most costly quarter for travel was in last quarter of 2025, with the most expensive trip to Cop30 in Brazil

I hope everyone is having a lovely Easter break, Kemi is getting some good news.

Kemi Badenoch has become the most popular of the party leaders, even though all of them have negative ratings, a poll has revealed.

The Tory leader’s net approval rating is now the highest at minus nine, according to the survey by More in Common.

Starmer very much behind

That puts her ahead of Sir Keir Starmer, who is on minus 42. The Prime Minister also trails Nigel Farage, the Reform UK leader, and Zack Polanski, the Green Party leader, who are both on minus 16.

Yet she's highly derided on MN (from left and right). I'm glad she's doing well.

Same. I think some stick on deriding because she’s doing well.

It amuses me when a particular poster keeps claiming that Kemi isn't very bright or is witless. Because it's so far from the truth that it just makes them look - at best - bitter!

Ah yes there’s a few I’ve seen. I wonder what their successes are when I see it.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 04/04/2026 08:32

Where has Farage been in that poll over the last couple of years? Has his popularity declined significantly?

I’ve seen a few articles recently about Reform stalling and stumbling. I know it’s to be expected of any party at some point, but it would be much more damaging to an insurgent like Reform than a more established party if voters are having second thoughts.

ProudAmberTurtle · 04/04/2026 08:36

I really like Kemi Badenoch to the point that I'm seriously considering voting Tory for the first time.

However, I just don't feel that her party has changed sufficiently, and that's my main block.

I'm also looking at the potential victors after a general election - a left wing coalition of Labour, Greens, Lib Dems, SNP etc, a Reform-Tory coalition or a Reform government, and they all look extremely unappealing. I really dislike Farage but a Reform government acting alone might be the most stable - even if it would still be a total shit show

There's a tracker here: https://www.moreincommon.org.uk/our-work/voting-intention-trackers/

Farage's approval has been quite volatile but at the moment it's about the same as it was a couple of years ago. The only three major movements have been Starmer (down) and Badenoch and Polanski (up)

Is there such a thing as a stable shit show?!

Bearing in mind how often Reform's elected officials post or say dodgy shit which leads to them being sacked, the idea of them in government is a joke (and that's before we even think about their dodgy grasp of economics!).

I don't think Kemi's Tories are that bad really. I think she's in the same league as Rishi, and he'd have done alright if he'd just carried on for longer. He was tainted by all who went before, and the BoZo chaos, however.

That tracker shows how well Kemi has done to turn her ratings around, that takes a lot of work.

Starmer’s ski slope is swift.

I agree with all of this although I think Kemi is a braver person than Rishi, and that's something I value.

Unfortunately we're in a time where whatever government we get, it's going to be a mixture of incompetent and despised. I'll probably vote for whatever will be the least incompetent - and so far I'm not exactly spoilt for choice

Polanski has said something about a 55 mph speed limit in the UK. Not sure if that's a vote winner

NoWordForFluffy · 04/04/2026 09:22

Boris got rid of the old school, One Nation, Tory MPs. Fucking idiot that he was. That's who Kemi could do with attracting back into the fold.

And, if the article in the Mail is correct, having to retake your driving test every five years plus a number of other anti car measures. As usual, those on the left have no understanding on rural life and the reliance on cars. The first bus leaves my village at 9.30am. How would he like me to get my kids to school and myself to work?!

Ideological bloody nonsense all round.

I imagine that once all of the batshit ideas are in one document (a GE manifesto) that they will see their popularity wane somewhat. Drip feeding this kind of thing means it won't all sink in for the electorate.

DameProfessorIDareSay · 04/04/2026 09:44

I don’t think that Kemi should bring all One Nation Conservatives back into the fold; many of them were responsible for what I consider the failures of the previous government.

A couple of examples on the issue I follow most closely are:

Gillian Keegan: never did tackle the gender nonsense in schools until it was too late. (No longer an MP but no doubt many ex-MPs will be angling for selection in 2029. Mordaunt is another one who can bugger off).

Caroline Nokes: ‘Nokes for the Blokes’ as I call her; very hostile to Kemi and another gender loon.

I’ll happily keep Tom Tugendhat though; he has openly admitted he was very late to the gender nonsense but has since stepped up to be quite vocal.

I’m sure others can come up with more names. We do not need ‘yellow Tories’. Nokes, for example, would be more at home in the LibDems. We certainly don’t need anyone who is clamouring for closer ties to the EU.

The stated aims of One Nation are pretty sensible but some do have a tendency to be a little bit ‘wet’. Damian Greene when he was chair of DCMS committee did not tackle BBC bias enough.

I want more ‘full fat’ Tories like Kemi; unashamed to be Conservative and conservative, promoting evidence based policies and not beholden to lobby groups, and not afraid to say ’this is what the country needs’ on issues like energy, education, crime, and social cohesion, even when it upsets the chattering classes.

...and that's the problem. Not everyone who intends to vote bothers to read the small print behind the canvassing hot air which accompanies the run-up to elections.

It matters most to rural communities. But it affects all of us who rely on cars. It’s just nonsense to suppose that people can do without a car or can afford ever more money to run one.

I sometimes get the feeling that the anti-car zealots genuinely believe that everyone can get everywhere, whoever and whatever they’re transporting, just by walking or cycling. I think they’re just very insular and very thick: no thought about others’ circumstances or money.

Does Polanski not realise if you curtail 'movement' and freedom of expression you also curtail the Economy. ! He, really is a very idiotic person then again we have a Chancellor with a Masters Degree from LSE who thinks in a similar way.
Personally, with him I just think its to have a go at people he would describe as 'Gammons' I.E hardworking Middle Class People who do not buy into progressive lunacy...

I do the YouGov surveys but they are very badly designed and only ever ask ‘which would make the best PM -KB or KS. Never vs mention of NF. And re political parties they never mention Restore, which is gaining enormous momentum -just lump them in ‘other’.

ProudAmberTurtle · 05/04/2026 08:03

This is probably an outlier poll but it does show what others are showing - Reform going down, Tories and Green on the up and Labour in serious trouble

Times Radio talking about the ‘Badenoch bounce’. Although I prefer calling her Kemi, she’s doing well.
