A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yes most people can detect the strong whiff of ‘you deserve this’ alongside the reek of incompetence.

Yep.

I just listened to Starmer and media questions. What a load of crap he spouts. He just ignored all questions about what other countries are putting in place.
The press had clearly sent their B team which didn't help. One good question from a journo about the impacts on young people - housing, jobs, childcare, student fees etc. Starmer answered that the last govt had let them down, thats why Labour are building more houses. How can he say that Labour are building more houses? 🤯
Waffle, lies, waffle, lies, on and on.

I watched it as well in the hope of hearing something informative or useful. Fat chance. Agree with you about the journalists; they must have missed the incisive interrogation module.

How on earth is this country going to survive the next three years?

Even bloody South Africa is lowering fuel duty! So Labour is now officially worse than the ANC.

In a nutshell, yes.
No mention of any of that from bollard this morning though.

really sorry to interrupt with a boring question

I could start a separate thread, but I think there's probably a few people who won't even understand what I mean and you know how those threads go

Been back at the dentist - he has found the most overwhelming number of problems. Some of them expected - some of them unexpected, some of them he thinks will probably need dealing within a couple of years so he has taken a very long view.

I previously had an NHS dentist so something that was new for me was the use of an intra oral scanning device

Is it possible that these devices are a bit like modern medical imaging in that they pick up things that are not necessarily problems? I have had some dreadful experiences because of that and I don't really want to repeat it at the dentist!

If anyone is knowledgeable here, please let me know. thank you

I'm not thrilled at the possibility of having implants, but I do think when there are several problems, it might be better to do a few implants in one go and just have a very unpleasant six months or whatever it is

rather than be doing a whole bunch of stuff over long period

hope that makes sense

I had four done in a short period. It wasn't that unpleasant, painful in the main. They were done for good which suits me.

I would however get a second opinion and quote.

DameProfessorIDareSay · 01/04/2026 15:31

I had one of those scans and it was useful in that it showed implants would not work for me due to bone loss in the area (which is why the bloody painful tooth fell out as soon as she prodded it).

So it saved me having some expensive implants.

But I second getting a second opinion; it will be expensive if you go ahead so you need to be sure.

SapphireCasino · 01/04/2026 15:56

Thank you

@DameProfessorIDareSay I don't think that's the scan I had. I think you've had the more detailed cone beam scan?

One of my concerns with implants is that if they told me I needed a bone graft, I'd just say no at that point, so that risks forkingout a lot of money to be told I have to do something I don't want to do

It's one of those situations where if you take the long view, implants would probably be better

Also, I have been assuming that it would get harder to do Implants as you age, but I know somebody who got a full set aged 80!

i'm also not 100% convinced that the stuff he's put on the long-term plan actually needs doing. I realise part of what he's doing is trying to avoid an emergency and I appreciate that but it's always a hard call with potential emergencies because they may not happen. When you add in grinding of teeth, you might end up with an emergency that you didn't expect on a tooth that didn't have any cracks in it.

I used to joke about tooth grinding meaning that I would end up with a full set of dentures. It is actually genuinely a risk though.

I had Botox once in my jaw to prevent the grinding, but I only did it because I was in extreme pain. Possibly, I have to consider doing it on a regular basis but I'm also not thrilled about having botulism injected into my face. I really was desperate when I had it. It was very "can't open mouth to drink morning coffee" level of pain.

also, would it make any sense if I said I like the dentist but the fact that it's a one man band is kind of offputting if you've got to have a lot of work done? If I stay local, that's basically what I'm going to get.

but then if you go to a practice with a few dentists, and if something goes wrong while you're actually in the chair then I guess you'd have to go to hospital aren't you? Scary!

why, yes, I am totally overthinking this 😂

DancingFerret · 01/04/2026 16:58

@SapphireCasino My inclination would be to seek a second opinion from an orthodontic consultant; it could save you from an expensive mistake.

The intra oral scanning device is an incredible piece of kit, very accurate. What you need to know is whether whatever treatment your dentist is recommending is necessary and, more importantly, will improve your dental health and hopefully avoid future problems, although that can never be guaranteed.

About 15 years ago my private dentist recommended an implant to replace a crown. I was uncertain, and to his credit he made a referral for a second opinion to an NHS consultant, who stated an implant would be ill-advised and to leave well alone. So far, that advice has proved right.

SapphireCasino · 01/04/2026 17:16

@DancingFerret to use Starmer's favourite phrase, let me be clear 😂

The dentist has not suggested implants. And he doesn't do them - but that may be why he hasn't suggested them!

i'm wondering if it's going to save some hassle down the line.

I might not have understood what orthodontist do fully, but I suspect that would just open up another level level of problems.

Have you still got that crown? Does your dentist do implants? I'm just wondering if that's why he suggested it.

justasking111 · 01/04/2026 17:26

Not sure why you don't want a bone graft if necessary. Grinding teeth. I thought that made implants inadvisable. There's a lot to unpick for you. My implants have been in over 20 years now with no issues so they've been a good investment.

Okay, I'm clear now.😅 Apologies for the misunderstanding.

Basically, orthodontists specialise in jaw realignment, teeth spacing, grinding and much more.

I do still have the crown and the dentist does implants. The reason he suggested an implant is the crown is attached to a baby tooth (the 'C') as the adult '3' didn't come down as it should have done. Baby teeth have very shallow roots, so he was concerned about the ability of the crown to stay in place in the long term. The consultant stated that if the crown fails I'll need a bridge as my teeth and their roots are too close together for a successful implant.

SapphireCasino · 01/04/2026 18:34

@DancingFerret oh thank you
A classic example of something that might happen, I guess.

@justasking111 it all just sounds like surgery. Because it is! So yeah, dental surgery, bone graft surgery - all sounds grim.

So Starmer literally said nothing this morning - I imagine Tony Blair and Alistair Campbell must be horrified at the complete lack of PR strategy.

I always say, we're looking at the second generation of people who somehow were actually taught to be completely ineffective in the workplace. And there's a lot of it about.

at least he avoided our morning Cheerios...

I called site of a thread that's apparently viral about how you must feel if you grew up in the 80s or 90s - I think it was written by a woman who is much younger and feels like those days belong to story books or something

Does anyone know who started that thread please? It looks like it had a massive level of engagement. Thank you.

Can't argue with this; Starmer's uttered nothing of substance since he took office.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/d51cc50dbaf882b7

I don’t read the Telegraph - I think it’s now more or less as useless as the Guardian; and the Sunday Telegraph, which used to be sharply written and very sensible, isn’t distinct any longer - but some articles in all the mainstream papers can hit the spot. That’s one of them, and by an ex-Labour MP.

Starmer’s speech was a laughable and embarrassing thing. Nothing in it, and a telling eagerness to let us know that he actually cares about the UK. No commitment to anything material. Anyone who thinks this speech is worth praising is a shill or a gullible fool.

I find it hard to summon words properly to describe how awful Starmer is. What an absolute fucking twat we have as a PM. Apologies for the low words, but I did say I find it difficult to describe how truly appalling he is.

I wonder if all the other world leaders think that the stuff with Iran is a bit too serious to have photos of them hanging out with the British PM published. I’m a bit weirded out by the photos of Starmer visiting that school to discuss screen guidelines. Everything had kicked off at that point, it seemed a strange use of the PM’s time (and makes him look rather an unserious leader).
