A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

On the fuel front, prices in the north seem higher than down here. We managed to find diesel at less than £1.65 at a couple of superstores, but at the Tesco nearest to us in the sticks it was £1.75.

I do find this issue revealing about so many Labour supporters. They would prefer that a Green won over a Tory or a Reform candidate. But they also claim to support women’s rights and strongly to reject racism - which supposedly forms part of their condemnation of the right wing parties.

So why cheer on the Greens with their foul-smelling policies and rhetoric about trans rights and about Jews?

The answer, inevitably, is that what the left wants is ideologically left political policy. Which has nothing to do with women’s rights or rejection of racism. It’s a philosophy of redistributive, state directed economics. It has nothing to do with morality or ethics.

Plus the Greens are nuts. Really very strange people.

I cannot for the life of me get my head around this. Anyone who genuinely cares about these issues should be horrified by the Greens.

I agree too. Also the quote in the report ...I paraphrase but ...our cause is righteous, we are the good guys. Why is that so chilling?

Echoes of the 1930s.

DS and family went to London this weekend to visit friends and see the sights. They inadvertently got caught up in a rally trying to get somewhere Anti reform. There was no aggression and they were able to peel away. So funny four Welsh country mice being caught up in this. My grandsons will have a story to tell at home.

SapphireCasino · 28/03/2026 20:47

@justasking111 well I hope they had a good time

I feel like protesting has turned into some kind of hobby for quite a lot of people. And I don't think it's doing society any good and it must be driving the police up the wall.

They didn't intend to go just got caught up in it trying to get somewhere.

I wonder how often tourists are caught out like this.

SapphireCasino · 28/03/2026 21:23

@justasking111 Oh, I know they didn't plan it

I meant, I hope they had a good time doing the activities they planned

I was just making an observation
It's literally turning into a hobby for some people

I think tourists must get caught out a lot

Visiting a friend from University in Stoke On Trent, Tesco and Asda out of Diesel at 166/170 P so was forced to pay 185 per litre at Shell on A 500. 185 means a 50 litre tank of Diesel tank is now costing £92.50 to fill up as opposed to about 140 some 5-6 weeks ago £70 . The real point here is the VAT gain for Reeves which is £4.50 extra on a Tank of Diesel. Thus, it is not un reasonable for the Government to temporary cut VAT on Fuel down to 10 or even 15%. This would also limit Inflation rises to Food and Energy Costs.

The Government really are the most 'moronic' people ever to Govern in this country.

redange · 28/03/2026 22:13

The Government are so slow and ignorant, they cannot even see an opportunity to give themselves a positive spin. Imagine any Minister with a nous of enterprise would be stood at a Petrol Station saying how we understand the situation hence why we have neutralized any gain we would have got from rising VAT receipts.

Another thing that highlights how Left the Overton Window currently is the SDP which I suggest propose good and sensible 'Centre Left' Policies. However, if you analyse their policy ideas in the current 'extreme' left political world you would have to say the SDP are a Centre Right Party !

Hello all, lost you for a bit there! Will try to catch up on latest goings on when I sit down for a cuppa later.

I did see the reporting that the Greens are debating a motion at conference to “ban Zionists” from the party. If that’s not a slippery slope I don’t know what is…

How are they defining that I wonder. Sounds very bad.

It's actually revolting that Labour are allowing HMRC to profiteer from this crises.
So further price rises and everyone further cutting discretionary spending while these spiteful dolts do fuck all.

DancingFerret · 29/03/2026 11:05

Did anyone watch Phillipson on Kuenssberg this morning? She was insufferable.

Asked about the effects of the war in Iran, she kept saying robotically on repeat that people in the UK should carry on and just live their lives (totally ignoring the fact an extra £30 to put fuel in their vehicles really impacts on some "hardworking people"; not everyone has financial headroom).

LK repeatedly asked her to explain Labour's contingency plans for an extended war and the most she got back was that "every government" makes plans.

The best bit was in the middle of the interview when LK, clearly irritated by BP's constant digs at other parties, told her in no uncertain terms to stop it and that she was only interested in hearing what Labour was doing.

NoWordForFluffy · 29/03/2026 11:57

I was wondering earlier whose turn it was to take one for the team and watch LK, and you answered my question, @DancingFerret!

How is your TV not defenestrated?!

Here we go. I'm only surprised they took this long to make it public.

I doubt we'll survive three more years of Comrade Starmer and his band of zealots.

SpaceRaccoon · 29/03/2026 13:29

That's nice. The poor fuckers paying more amd more for it all, will get less and less of it.

Absolutely zero incentive for anyone else to get off their arses, why would they when they're the State's pets?

NoWordForFluffy · 29/03/2026 14:19

Surely hospital resources should be based on need, not how much you earn? Clearly an attempt to force people into the private sector if they can afford it, which is misguided, as you can see a surgeon privately for your initial appointment and then go onto their NHS list at the private facility, often cutting months off your waiting time. All for about £200-250 of appointment fee. Plus you get treatment in a private hospital!

And I'm even more confused about policing resources and what that would mean.

They are fucking batshit crazy if this is really being planned. Let's see the Bill wording and assess from there!

Our health board will not accept private consultants letters, x-ray, scan or diagnosis when it's proferred as evidence to them. It's totally ignored.

That's a shame. Seems ridiculous, as they're also NHS surgeons, not unknowns!

I was referred back to my GP for an appointment via Choose and Book. I saw the consultant in December, paid for my own MRI and x-ray and then had my op in June.

Though he no longer does NHS work at the private hospital, so I now see him at Broadgreen. But I still get seen quickly when needed.

Edited

The surgeon that did my hip privately also works in our local hospital. Our board is not consultant led but management led.

Pacificsunshine · 29/03/2026 15:16

It’s a terrible idea. Maybe the next government will rescind it. Or maybe this will be the beginning of privatisation for most and a rump safety net for poorest.
