A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@DameProfessorIDareSay

I couldn't agree more about getting out of one's bubble and actually listening to people.
I'm also a queue chatter, met one of closest friends in an airport queue. 😂 I like talking to people, much to my dc's embarrassment. I predicted the Johnson win, and Brexit (even though I voted remain). I placed my first ever bet on Trump winning a second term. Bet £100, got £400 back.

I'm on leafleting duty tomorrow, so I'll report back afterwards. You've reminded me to make sure I wear my fitbit.

This is great, you’re inspiring me. I don’t mind random people but ik so many Labour voters, that feels tricky.

StatuteofLiberty · 28/03/2026 09:29

@DameProfessorIDareSay I also chat to people !
I remember an analogy over the brexit time though, you can't tell people traffic is moving when they're physically stuck in the queue.

DancingFerret · 28/03/2026 09:59

I'm also a chatter. About 20 years ago I got into conversation with someone on the Cowes floating bridge; since then he and his wife have become very much part of our social circle and we've enjoyed various skiing and flotilla holidays with them.

Getting back O/T, with the upcoming May elections in mind, Reeves is missing a trick by not reducing fuel duty to take the heat off the COL. That said, if she did see the light, it's possible Labour won't get the kicking in May they so richly deserve.

does anyone have a share link to the Telegraph article about the Greens, please?

It sounds incredibly upsetting, but I feel as if it's good to know - assuming it's a totally legit investigation? All very depressing.

good luck with the canvassing/leafleting to those who are out today. I can't get my head around doing that. Must be quite an experience. I don't really engage but I tried to engage with Labour on definitions of being a woman and they just walked away. That was years ago.

Oh, they're in FULL bribe mode for our town. We've just had funding announced to fix our pier, which has been closed for years.

They've also said that kids' A&E is returning to our town from the town across the county border.

I'm not sure if voters are falling for it though.

SapphireCasino · 28/03/2026 10:41

@DancingFerret thank you
That's a sobering read but it doesn't surprise me
Be interesting to see how that resolution at Spring conference goes. I think it's going to be ugly.

The pressure on the COL as a result of the crisis was huge, but now the Houthis have entered the war all bets are off.

This is a crisis Labour ignore at their peril, so you're right - while local improvements are a good thing, most people will be voting based on their own survival with an eye on their rapidly thinning wallets.

DH went to Asda this morning for diesel. No luck. Tesco did have some though. My car is petrol so when it's desorned in a month at least we'll have a better chance to drive something. It was over £1.70. This morning.

DancingFerret · 28/03/2026 13:26

There's a report in the DM this morning about a massive warehouse development near Wigan. Apparently, the Labour-run council granted permission without public consultation.

Labour's sweeping, maverick-like approach to planning should be a nationwide concern. They really don't care.

(The article is behind the DM's paywall and Archive.ph is having global problems according to Google. It refuses to load on my iPad, but I can access it on my PC. I hope the link works.🤞)

175.9 at the Morrisons here. We're always dearer here, I think because we're on the edge of the country and there's no really easy way to get here (we're a fair distance from a motorway).

I read this earlier and it is totally shocking. Just another example of Labour’s coercive control and indeed there should be uproar at what they are forcing through and I can’t think why there isn’t.
God I hate them

That's happened here. There's a small estate social housing, then a play park, then the land rises upwards and an enormous warehouse is under construction for god knows who because there's nowt in planning.

I follow the campaign group on social media. It's absolutely appalling and, frankly, needs tearing down.

Diesel is 179.9 everywhere around here, so you're doing better than us. We're about 20 minutes drive from a motorway. It cost me £120 yesterday for a full tank, and it will only last about a week.

Christ! We're always dearer than anywhere else I go to, so that surprises me. Luckily a tank lasts us about a month as we rarely go very far!

Make sure you fill up near where you live if you're venturing out. You're in a cheap spot there compared to us.

I just checked fuel prices. Most places here are 180.9 for diesel. 😬 I think we may need to fill up later!

I do find this issue revealing about so many Labour supporters. They would prefer that a Green won over a Tory or a Reform candidate. But they also claim to support women’s rights and strongly to reject racism - which supposedly forms part of their condemnation of the right wing parties.

So why cheer on the Greens with their foul-smelling policies and rhetoric about trans rights and about Jews?

The answer, inevitably, is that what the left wants is ideologically left political policy. Which has nothing to do with women’s rights or rejection of racism. It’s a philosophy of redistributive, state directed economics. It has nothing to do with morality or ethics.

Plus the Greens are nuts. Really very strange people.

I agree too. Also the quote in the report ...I paraphrase but ...our cause is righteous, we are the good guys. Why is that so chilling?
