A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Thanks for that @boys3, really interesting stats.

The May elections will be fascinating now that the left vote is so split. I'm surprised at Labour not standing candidates.

OP posts:
boys3 · 27/03/2026 19:04

when they have candidates getting single figure votes, or only just into two digits 😄 it maybe is understandable. @TheNuthatch

May local elections plus Welsh Senedd will be fascinating, Holyrood maybe less so.

I wonder if the Conservatives will do as badly as predicted with the results so far this year?

Interesting times!

@DameProfessorIDareSay well two horrid possibilities in that pic the poor girl was bored and tired and did fall asleep or our misogynist leader didn't mind her being ordered to get out of shot...having to lie in that position ??

Re "squaring a shift to the left " v reform I don't think they will care one jot.

If I recall correctly (and I'm happy to be corrected), Boris's landslide win wasn't predicted. The silent majority tend to be just that - silent - choosing instead to make their feelings known in the voting booth.

Someone in the audience on last night's Question Time stated he was fed up with hearing about the left and the right, it's the middle that matters. I have a feeling he's one of the silent majority.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/03/2026 19:20

Shy Tories are a well known phenomenon, I think. Let's see what happens!

Yep! They are so used to being shouted at that they don’t let on.

Yes, true.
I'm out leafleting this weekend for the conservatives. Its a VERY Labour area so I'm interested to see what kind of reception we get. I may need body armour. 🤣

I once leafleted for the Lib Dems. Some people get really offended by it, like you should know they vote for another party and are insulting them by putting a leaflet through the door.

One bloke handed 4 named envelopes back to me (him, his wife and kids all had named post, rather than a generic leaflet) and said, 'We don't vote for them in this house.' I thought him rather presumptuous, speaking for everyone else in his house!

ETA: another bloke chased me down the street shouting to give the leaflet back!

Don't worry, I have a thick skin. Haters gonna hate etc. At least this time, there is zero doubt that Labour are shite.

@NoWordForFluffy Haha, yep, been there, got the T shirt. 😂

@EasternStandard
Have you seen this? This is after the interview you were talking about with the professor.

https://www.thetimes.com/article/baecac9b-121a-41e5-aca8-b3ad3006c86f?shareToken=54e8c4cc26214e49b1f0cd3e5505abd1

Oh I didn’t see this how utterly awful. The interview was chilling, he spoke violently generally and at her. I’m not surprised online hatred follows him. It would be directed at any western woman who doesn’t follow his brutal ideology.

I wish the headline said pro-IRGC as it’s really their language not all Iranians.

Thanks for the share, I’m so sad we’re seeing this rn.

ZP's political ambition must surely (hopefully) have taken a knock in the light of those revelations

In terms of some of the polling this is the summary of Council by-elections that have taken place in England from start of this year through to the four held yesterday. Only 23 contests, and none in large cities, however a decent cross-section across England. Just under 50,000 votes cast.

Reform 25.8%
Conservative 20.5%
Green 17.5%
Labour 16.1%
Lib Dem 15.0%
independents and others 5.0%

I’ ve just completed s YouGov survey and they are actually now including Reform as an option but not Restore. Fair enough probably as Restore is only just officially registered, but they do risk missing an important element of they don’t include that as an option going forward.

I'm in the middle also

I'm also sick of hearing about the left and right

Asda /m&s/ next bosses have all come out and said revees ignored advice on the 3rd to support drivers with petrol. All say she's profiteering from petrol rises and by may there will be shortages.
Why wait till may ? Why not put strategies in now to help ease the pain later ??

Appalling. Such a weak response from Labour too.
One of the comments suggesting that the Greens should adopt a uniform of brown shirts is spot on. How can anyone with half a brain think that this party represents hope? Sickening.

Yeah I read that about M&S, but didn't know other retailers had said the same.
Not surprising that Reeves ignored advice.

Awaiting your report of leafleting shenanigans with interest @TheNuthatch !

I leafleted for the Conservatives at the last GE as I liked our MP. Very heavily LibDem in my town and surrounding villages but wanted to do my bit as he had been very supportive of me on an issue I am passionate about.

I did my local area and there is barely a house that does not have steps up or down to it or a long uphill drive. I clocked 38000 steps on one afternoon; no wonder the posties here all have great legs 😊

Had a few nice chats if people happened to be in their gardens, including with a couple of LD councillors, but one woman did actually chase me down the street; she had a big ‘NO CONSERVATIVES’ poster on her door so I did not post a leaflet, no point upsetting people, but she thought I had and wanted to rant at me.
Once I got a word in edgeways to say I had not delivered a leaflet she stood there gasping like a goldfish out of water. She really was very rude and ranty, and all in front of her small children 😬

It’s a pretty thankless task but I do actually read any leaflets that come through and I’m sure lots of other people do.

You are quite right about the 2019 GE predictions @DancingFerret which was fun for me as I did predict it (also predicted Brexit) and my brother was baffled. I explained to him that if you actually pop out of your social media and personal bubbles occasionally and listen to other people you might be surprised. (He’s a Guardian/BBC addict) 🙄I’m a terrible one for talking to people in queues 😁

StatuteofLiberty · 28/03/2026 09:06

We are sleep walking into a massive crisis !
Yes Asda man is particularly angry because he over seas fuel also.

TheNuthatch · 28/03/2026 09:13

@DameProfessorIDareSay

I couldn't agree more about getting out of one's bubble and actually listening to people.
I'm also a queue chatter, met one of closest friends in an airport queue. 😂 I like talking to people, much to my dc's embarrassment. I predicted the Johnson win, and Brexit (even though I voted remain). I placed my first ever bet on Trump winning a second term. Bet £100, got £400 back.

I'm on leafleting duty tomorrow, so I'll report back afterwards. You've reminded me to make sure I wear my fitbit.
