The dreaded middle-of-the-night accidental 'like'

Please tell me your tales of accidentally liking your ex's new girlfriend's best friend's 12 year old graduation photo on social media to make me feel better because I have done something similar last night 😭😆

Immediately went into witness protection by blocking and deactivating facebook, I am old enough to know better 😫

Success story, I accidentally liked a pic of my current partner before we got together….the rest is history

Remember op it's never too late to start a new life on a different continent 😂

First world problems..

It would be good if there was a way to disable the like button on facebook when you are having a nosey around 😊Perhaps there is a way to do this???

Did you know each other at that point or were you aware of them and just being nosey? That's a good result!

I think the easiest way is to just not be nosey 😬 At least it wasn't someone tangentially related to an ex - more like someone directly related to a current object of affection at work 😫

Change your FB name for a while, John Smith might save you and ask chatgp to create you a new profile picture 😂

I once accidently shared a photo of my exes wife and kids and it automatically tagged the "feeling emotional 🥰" thing on it.

I'm no longer on social media at all.

I would have immediately boarded a plane to another country with just the clothes on my back. And never returned.

Years ago, when FB was new and I had no idea how to use it, I had a HUGE crush on a manager at work. I wanted to FB stalk him, however I typed his name into the 'status' bar and SAVED IT!! I left it there for hours before someone told me what id done .... the embarrassing was of the chart

As lovely as that is, I don't think that's going to help here 😂

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 16/03/2026 13:08

I had a friend request that was instantly cancelled from my sister's husband's ex, I have to admit I did screenshot it and send it to her but beyond a brief 'someone's having a snoop' we didn't really comment or think about it again - I wouldn't worry too much, it's something a lot of people think is fairly normal now! I went on a date recently (just the one for obvious reasons 😂) where half way through he mentioned my ex by name, and admitted he knew because he'd stalked me beforehand. No shame at all!

Starlight1979 · 16/03/2026 13:14

In the early stages of dating, I found photos on FB (from about 15 years ago) of DH and his then girlfriend at a Halloween party. A while later, he mentioned something in passing about hating fancy dress and I casually mentioned (in a complete non-stalker way 😂) that I knew that wasn't true as he went to a Halloween party with his ex and wore a costume to that. He looked at me like I was insane and we never spoke of it again 😆😭

I love all the Facebook stories of accidental likes and tags.

The one that cracks me up so much is poster who tagged herself as the baby in a picture of her ex with his new wife and a baby.

I accidentally liked a photo of my ex from about 15 years ago - I’d spent ages going through photos of him so it was really obvious. I don’t dare look through anyone’s photos anymore. Facebook need to have a button to disable the likes!

You can but I'm sure they still get the notification?

Copperoliverbear · 16/03/2026 13:24

Yes but the recipient will still get a notification regardless, with the name of the person that 'liked' it.

I've done it OP, I don't believe anyone that says they haven't dabbled ina bit of SM stalking. And whenever you stalk, you put yourself at risk of a similar faux pas 😅

Delatron · 16/03/2026 13:25

I think even if you unlike it they still receive a notification that you liked it. This also needs to be changed
