What did you eat this Mother’s Day?

We went to book something too late and both my favourite haunts of Hickory’s and Harvester weren’t available, so the kids had pasta and we’ll get a takeout in an hour, probably Mexican I am leaning towards!

What did you end up eating for your ‘main meal’ (whether lunch or dinner) today?

We are yet to eat, I offered to cook a roast but DH was aghast, offered to take us out but I said everywhere would be booked now… so he’s making pasta bake. Which is fine, it’s a meal everyone in the family eats.

Other than that I’ve had a bagel with marmite on, which DD made

Fish and chips in a restaurant

gingercat02 · 15/03/2026 19:52

Sourdough toast with lemon curd for breakfast. Miller and Carter for lunch and DH is making cheese on toast for late tea.
Few glasses of wine to wash it all down.
Very satisfying.

Scrambled eggs on toast cooked by me as it’s just me at home.

Son at uni. Will see daughter this week to go out for a meal.

Vivienne1000 · 15/03/2026 19:54

My daughter ordered and brought afternoon tea boxes to our house. It was very easy and rather lovely.

ToadRage · 15/03/2026 19:54

My husband cooked a lovely roast but not because it's Mothers Day, we don't have kids.

SheWillBeTheDeathOfMe · 15/03/2026 19:56

Roast duck for meat eaters, juicy marbles fake steaks for the non meat eaters. Roasted baby potatoes, chanteney (?) carrots, spring greens and runner beans. Black Forest gateaux/ vegan Ben and Jerry’s and some nice wine

WhoWouldBeAWoman · 15/03/2026 19:58

DS made lasagne and home made breadsticks. DH was around to supervise /encourage. I've had most of the bottle of fizz the kids gifted me too 🍾
Dinner was utterly delicious.

I would normally lean towards a Nando’s but we ate that last week. Just checked the Mexican and it says it’s busy, will be very disappointed if I end up with Burger King 😢
That Greek sounds delicious, the only one around here is ‘Eugreeka’ which I think is a dark kitchen chain!? I’ve not tried it but I’m skeptical

We ordered from https://www.theathenian.co.uk 🇬🇷

It was delicious 😋

A lovely tea at a hotel with ds and my parents.. my dad is nearly 95 am blessed to have them.

AmethystDeceiver · 15/03/2026 20:16

This is nice 🙂 nice to hear so many women pleased with nice food, cooked for them or not, eaten with the people they love. We really don't ask for much do we, us mums, and if we ruled the world it would be a much better place!

I had coffee in bed followed by eggs on toast, salad for lunch, and pasta and meatballs and wine for dinner. Plus a chocolate ice cream cone this afternoon with my ds, and sticky toffee pudding for later if I can manage it.

10 year old DS has been attentive and lovely to me, DH has done all the cooking and planned a nice day out, and 23 year old DS (autistic and often not great at things like this) remembered and sent a text. I'm happy 😊

Beans on toast, to be fair the toast was dinosaur shaped and the beans piled up with some ketchup to create a volcano.

Playstoppaws · 15/03/2026 20:22

I had shredded wheat once I realised no one was going to reveal any big surprise.
Then I had toast for lunch. I made everyone spag bol but didn't fancy it for dinner.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 15/03/2026 20:25

DS1 took me out but we were late planning it so our favourite buffet place was full.

We ended up in Bella Italia. Shared cheesy doughballs to start. Then I had spicy sausage rigatoni. Then we shared a hot brookie which was delicious. Also had a mocktail each.

FourForksSake · 15/03/2026 20:31

I was going to raid M&S to save myself cooking dinner from scratch but it was so disappointing I walked out with nothing. Ended up making slow-cooked gammon, cauliflower cheese and roasties, followed by chocolate cheesecake with fruit compote (based on Jane’s Patisserie recipe). Delicious and worth the effort to celebrate the day with family.

Gorbie · 15/03/2026 20:32

I'm not long in from a 12.5hr shift, we've just had chiili and rice with doritos and salsa 😋

blankcanvas3 · 15/03/2026 20:34

We had roast lamb cooked by my dad who cannot cook anything apart from a banging roast dinner. We’re considering ordering a pizza a little bit later on as we ate at 1 so are both getting hungry. Hoping DS goes to bed soon so we don’t have to get him one too

firstofallimadelight · 15/03/2026 20:35

We did croissants and pancakes for breakfast which we had around 11 so skipped lunch then dh made salmon en croute for dinner

GardeningMummy · 15/03/2026 20:36

Bean Tacos 🫘 🌮 made from homemade refried beans, rice, red onions, coriander & lime juice

Anjo2011 · 15/03/2026 20:37

We went to the pub , I had a roast chicken dinner and apple crumble and custard for pudding. I was very happy to go out.

BG2015 · 15/03/2026 20:39

My DP cooked an amazing roast beef lunch with all the trimmings with a bottle of champagne from my son. Both my sons and parents came for lunch too.
