What did you eat this Mother’s Day?

We went to book something too late and both my favourite haunts of Hickory’s and Harvester weren’t available, so the kids had pasta and we’ll get a takeout in an hour, probably Mexican I am leaning towards!

What did you end up eating for your ‘main meal’ (whether lunch or dinner) today?

I had a breakfast smoothie with spinach, banana, oatmilk, vanilla and chocolate powder.

Then homemade tomato soup with bread

Then i made sweetcorn and courgette fritters with sour cream and dill with a side salad of green lentils, sweet potato, tomatos, onions, cucumber. parsley, coriander, cashews, feta cheese, mixed seeds and caesar dressing.

It was all 'okay'. DH liked it all. DS1 refused to even try dinner so i sent him off to make himself a sausage sandwich if he was not going to ear what i cooked and now he is sulking in his room. Gotta love the teenage years.

Smoked salmon and scrambled egg bagels for breakfast, took the kids to the cinema in the afternoon so skipped lunch and just had popcorn/snacks then my mum came over for dinner and DH did a roast with soup to start and a lemon tart and ice cream after. I've not cooked a thing and it's been lovely.

Toast with peanut butter that I made myself and it repeated on me for 3 hours while I did a half marathon… came home to afternoon tea made by dh-nice. Going back for seconds soon. Will be in bed by 8 as I’m too old for this malarkey!

Just finished a Thai curry. DH made it.

MillicentMaybe · 15/03/2026 19:30

Macaroni cheese. I made it, because nobody else can make it like me, ‘‘twas delicious!

To be fair, all my children are grownups, they have their own families, and I did get lots of good wishes and flowers sent. However, I’m not my husband’s mother so didn’t mind cooking. He has, though, poured the wine, and I’ll be watching the tennis final later on, It’s actually been a lovely day.

sanityisamyth · 15/03/2026 19:31

McDonalds at about 3pm then a quiche for supper

MillicentMaybe · 15/03/2026 19:32

Should add, both our own Mothers are no longer with us.

watchingoninhorror · 15/03/2026 19:33

Mine was a bit shit to be fair. The older three said ‘Happy Mothers Day’ this morning but the younger two don’t understand. I think I ate a flat bread with some hummus this morning, but nothing since. DH is away with work and under a lot of pressure this weekend. Plus I’m not big on celebrating myself, only the kids and sometimes DH if he deserves it.

whywhywhyohwhy · 15/03/2026 19:38

I made steak fajitas. Quite expensive compared to other meals. Was good and Dh cleans kitchen.

Just waiting for a Chinese takeaway to arrive. Not sure how busy they'll be with it being Mother's Day, but we pre-ordered for 19:30, so hopefully shouldn't be waiting too long. Kids just gone to bed so I'll probably open the bottle of wine Dh they bought me and have a glass

Omg snap

We went so against what we usually do and I loved it!!!

Usually we would choose somewhere ‘posh’ or based on a type of food - Italian/greek usually. Always a large restaurant as usually it’s the whole family - 20 of us. I’ve not been feeling myself lately so quite honestly I just needed somewhere small and cosy so we went just us this time - 5 of us

Hit the nail on the head though. We’ve gone for a local little family run tearoom in a tiny off the beaten track village near ours. I’ve only ever been once years ago but it’s one where I know every single thing is made in house, little cake cabinet when you walk in.

I am soooo glad we have done this this time though! Afternoon teas with properly home made cakes. We even got cake extra as a takeout. Couldn’t resist! Nice and relaxed. Decent prices too - £17.50 each for afternoon tea and teens ordered their usual menu at £7 for a main meal. Last year we got utterly savaged with a slightly shit 3 course menu at £60 each (rich SIL arranged)

We have already planned to return again very soon

Ches71 · 15/03/2026 19:46

Thai lunch at local restaurant which was my choice.

whiteroseredrose · 15/03/2026 19:46

I made afternoon tea for my mum. So am stuffed watching tv on the sofa.

Oneandanotheroneistwo · 15/03/2026 19:47

Roast duck with all the trimmings. I cooked but I don't mind that. It was fabulous and there's leftovers for tomorrow too.

StarCourt · 15/03/2026 19:47

Carvery delivery

tfu · 15/03/2026 19:48

My 11 year old DD made pasta from scratch for dinner and it was incredible- followed by apple crumble and custard. Currently in a food coma

SquigglePigs · 15/03/2026 19:49

Main meal today was dinner and we had steaks, roasties and veg with a ganache covered chocolate cake. Delicious!

Lovelynames123 · 15/03/2026 19:49

Dsis cooked lunch for the family, we had a lovely cottage pie followed by warm brownies and ice cream. Still fullish so just had done chocolate covered pistachios for supper!

Retrogamer · 15/03/2026 19:50
