Things people do to show that more money than sense

I’ll start
. People who spend 40-70p on a carrier bag then use it for rubbish.
. People who buy those number plates which have multi colours, lettering has glitter on them. Not road legal

I buy Waitrose No1 bog rolls rather than Lidl value range. Does that count? My bum thanks me for it, so it's worth it to me.

Do you have to buy separate ones for number twos?

I think there's a big difference between finding yourself in an emergency situation or out and about amidst a disaster and grabbing a 40p-70p supermarket carrier bag when a bin bag would have done if you'd had one to hand; as opposed to routinely using them at home rather than ever buying a roll of bin bags.

It's probably only rappers who do it, but people who wear a brand new pair of trainers every single day. Apart from the huge cost - even if you do give them away afterwards to charity/less-privileged people rather than just binning them - brand new footwear is always much less comfy than when you've worn it in and it's moulded itself to your own foot.

Also the actual admin in having to order, take delivery of, remove the tags, recycle the boxes and put them all away in cupboards/on shelves - and then disposing of bags of them afterwards, wherever you take them!

People who send 1st class birthday cards instead of posting it 2nd class a week earlier!

1st class often takes long enough to arrive these days, so maybe they don't quite have enough trust to use 2nd!

Another one to watch for, that I got caught out by recently, is to make sure that you don't buy square cards (unless they're very tiny) if you need to post them. Very ordinary-sized square cards tend to juuuust fall into the 'large letter' category by a few millimetres and so they cost £3 to send (if you have the time, patience, a printer and suitable stationery to buy postage online) or, realistically for most people, £3.50 or more as you have to use two standard stamps to cover it. Even if you don't leave it until the last minute and go out to buy actual large letter stamps, you still have to buy a book of four and then have three left that you probably won't use!

Just another judgy thread started by a poor person.

That’s an anathema surely 🤔

Shopping in Waitrose. I don’t get it. I can understand the speciality stuff that you may not be able to get elsewhere but to do ALL your shopping there is peculiar. I guess if it’s literally the only shop locally to buy goods and you don’t have the ability to travel further thats fine. But to actively choose that shop over ones that sell rhe same stuff, but cheaper, that’s just showing off 😆

What the 'old bangers' crowd on here always fail to recognise that the main reason they are happy with a cheap old car us because they can afford to live on walking and cycling distance of amenities and work or can WFH. And in places where they can actually leave a bike with basic security without it getting stolen.

They have no concept at all about needing a car to drive to work 20 miles away because they can't afford to live any closer and if there is public transport its connections and takes much longer than driving.

We must be an anomaly, we drive old bangers (1 is an 05 plate and the other 06, both are coming to the end of their lives and need replacing this year but will not be replaced by financed cars. For us, that doesn’t make financial sense) and have a 20 mile each way commute, no public transport links and work two jobs that I need to get between in 30mins 😂. But I agree there are a lot of people who suggest walking/public transport/cycling that just don’t even register the logistics.

I will spend £1 on a carrier bag and bin it, I don’t think I’ve ever taken back a bag for life?! I didn’t think anyone actually did 😂.

I'm off out in a minute to buy DD some more birthday presents. I finished her present shopping last weekend but I’ve had another idea - definitely classed as a waste of money by some, she’ll
be 2!

Oh we also took our 20 month old to Florida for 11 days in November, and (at 23months) to Disneyland Paris a few weeks ago. We would definitely get told that was a waste of money 😂
