I’ll start
. People who spend 40-70p on a carrier bag then use it for rubbish.
. People who buy those number plates which have multi colours, lettering has glitter on them. Not road legal

Last time I flew there was a young woman travelling alone with 3 under 5s.

It was a whole picture of 'how does she do it' and one thing I noticed was that the older two were wearing Dior trainers, which I googled to find that new, they're about £500. For kids trainers.

She was either very wealthy or a Vinted and hand me downs Queen. Which was interesting considering it was a Ryanair flight, my ticket cost me £60 including a hold bag.

Ever considered they could be fake? £20 down the market

I'm poor as fuck, so I regard anyone buying kitchen roll instead of using a cloth as flashing the cash. Or driving distances they could walk.

But I am aware that most people do not regard these things as luxurious unnecessary spends.

I have a PS5 in every room bar bathrooms. I don’t give a tiny shite what you all think of that

Ok - you can’t just drop that in and not give any details!

How many rooms exactly do you have? How did you end up with a PS5 in every room? Did you buy them all at once intentionally or did it just happen. Are there many of you in your household each playing on a different one? What will you do if a PS6 comes out? What if you want another PS5 - are you allowed more than one per room or are you now at your limit?

I have a PS5 in only the bathrooms.

Mine’s in the loft.

A friend has a £150000 Patek Philipe diamond encrusted watch. That’s surely the definition of more money than sense?

Isadora2007 · 14/03/2026 22:56

Go on holiday with young kids. Holidays are so expensive and with young kids it’s just same shit in a different location and the little buggers don’t even remember it!

IsItWickedNotToCare · 14/03/2026 13:21

Get their oven cleaned professionally instead of scrubbing it themselves like the rest of us paupers 🤣

It’s the worst household job and I will not be shamed! 😂

Fingalscave · 14/03/2026 23:04

"Designer" clothes and bags/shoes with the logo emblazoned on. Paying a fortune to advertise stuff is more money than sense. The whole thing's a big con.

Uppitymuppity · 14/03/2026 23:07

They hold events for children to make sushi

MsPug · 14/03/2026 23:09

It used to be who had a widescreen tv! Who remembers that 😂

YelramBob · 14/03/2026 23:10

Wtf is a PS5?

(Sony) PlayStation 5 - their fifth generation games console.

PinotPony · 15/03/2026 07:22

Employing a cleaner…. 🤣🍿

IglesiasPiggl · 15/03/2026 07:25

I saw a thing on TV about a woman who buys a new pair of white socks for every day for her DD to wear at school because "they never look as good once you've washed them". She didn't seem like she had loads of money, just no sense!

1000StrawberryLollies · 15/03/2026 07:29

Most of these have nothing to do with having either a lack of sense or a lot of money. They are choices people make out of preference for something they like or something that saves time or effort. You don't have to be wealthy or an idiot to prioritise time or enjoyment in small ways that slightly improve your life.

daisychain01 · 15/03/2026 07:35

I buy Waitrose No1 bog rolls rather than Lidl value range. Does that count? My bum thanks me for it, so it's worth it to me.

TheProvincialLady · 15/03/2026 07:41

On the rare occasions I have bought a plastic carrier bag it’s because I have been disorganised and forgotten to bring a cloth bag. I always use the plastic bag for clearing out the grate or as a bin liner. I’m not going to use it as a bag because I prefer cloth bags for that - they are stronger and have more practical handles. Saving the plastic bag to take shopping is pointless and wouldn’t save any money as I have already ‘wasted’ the money by not bringing a one of the cloth bags I already own.

Squirrelchops1 · 15/03/2026 07:44

I too pay for oven cleaning once a year. I say it's my treat to myself!

More money than sense..my MIL who paid over £1000 about 10 years ago for 1set of triple lined silk curtains in 1 room.

tutugogo · 15/03/2026 07:47

Buying new clothes and not wearing them, donating to charity shop. Great for us as a shop, we are truly grateful but I think it comes under more money than sense eg yesterday I sold a tags still attached Reiss dress with an original cost of £199, reduced to £129 in the sale - for £29.99, who doesn’t try on such an expensive dress until after the return period is up? I had half a dozen pieces like this yesterday alone donated

There are so many things that I feel are more money than sense purchases:
latest iPhone, enormous cars, designer bags..
but am sure someone else would consider my long haul business flights as proof I have more money than sense.

Pffft, I fly first class and I don't care who knows it. For me the journey starts when I arrive at the airport and I enjoy every moment!

But, the reason I can do this is that I am very thrifty elsewhere and don't buy the gadgets and cars and coffees etc. Different strokes for different folks.

I am grateful that people fly first class, it helps keep the prices down in economy!

My lovely neighbour is spending £12k on a new front door. It’s stunning but £12k!

Summergarden · 15/03/2026 08:59

Sometimes I think I should vote for vote for myself in this. We pay a company £24 a month to come a few times a year and sprinkle a few nutrients onto our very small back lawn and aerate it once a year. They don’t come every single month, just maybe 4-5 times a year.

DH loves a pristine lawn and thinks it’s worth it but I often wonder if it would look much different at all if we cancelled the service…

Easterbunnygettingawrapping · 15/03/2026 09:02

My dd buys a bag of spuds every week. What she doesn't use gets binned!
