What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

I'm really pretty poor at the moment, so my extravagance is something that most people wouldn't even notice, but - my audible membership. An audio book every month is such a luxury; I run the books overnight to help me fall and stay asleep and it's like being read to all snuggled up in bed when you were a child.

So it's only about £8.99 per month, but it's money I can't really afford and yet...

Our library service offers audio books for free through borrowbox. Might be worth seeing if yours does too.

Bella Freud jumpers
Gigs at least twice a month - live music is my happy place
Charlotte Tilbury makeup

Love everyone’s replies. Life really is too short not to treat yourself & surround yourself with things that bring you joy 😊

I also love your DH's tinned fish things. Does he follow the Tinned Fish Guy on IG? Love his reviews.

My indulgence is tools (I'm a silver/goldsmith). I'm just building up to lashing out the best part of 2k on a microscope. Also gemstones - absolutely love choosing beautiful stones to set.

Also gorgeously scented candles Grin

Oh my god, I'd love this 😍

When the old fridge-freezer died, I splashed out on a huge American-style fridge-freezer with a door-in-door on the fridge and an ice-maker on the freezer. I don't need an ice-maker and I definitely don't need a door-in-door, but every time I open that extra door to get some milk or butter or spices out, it makes me grin like an idiot, and sometimes even say "tee hee hee" when there is nobody in the kitchen but me.

Having my short sight corrected with laser treatment as a complete luxury at the same time as having necessary cataract treatment, when I was sixty. It cost thousands at Moorfields, but not having to find my spectacles in the morning to see what is happening outside the window makes it worth every penny, every day. This was after more than fifty years of increasingly uncomfortable spectacles digging into the bridge of my nose or making painful grooves behind my ears; I couldn't wear contact lenses because I broke my spectacles into my eyes when I was nine and there were little bits of glass left in them, so it was spectacles or saying "what bus is that?" rather than "which bus is it?" No regrets whatever on that one.

every time I open that extra door to get some milk or butter or spices out, it makes me grin like an idiot, and sometimes even say "tee hee hee" when there is nobody in the kitchen but me.😂

My ‘gym’ membership is a luxury spa.
Facial every other week.
Lindberg glasses (so comfortable, only just discovered these)
Dining out regularly
Housekeeper (very new splurge and I love her)
Aveda hair stuff instead of whatever was on offer in the supermarket (another recent change)

I work long hours and until recently couldn’t bring myself to spend much on myself, personally (on the kids, always, but never just on indulging myself). I now seem to be very good at it!

Zempy · 05/03/2026 19:07

Mounjaro!

Bedroomdilemmas113 · 05/03/2026 19:07

Oh and theatre tickets! I go monthly at least, love musicals

CoralOP · 05/03/2026 19:08

I'm pretty crap at really treating myself, i struggle to spend money on treats for me (such as candles, clothes etc, always go for the cheap option or do without) .
I do appreciate that I just buy whatever I want in the supermarket shop and have my heating on whenever I want (which is always).
I do go on holiday as much as I can so that's my extravagance I guess, I find it easier to spend on experiences than I do stuff.

DorisTheFinkasaurus · 05/03/2026 19:08

French butter with all the seasalt!
Great coffee
My milk deliveries (the milkman is a bit of a luxury where I live)
Just really good food, I think. I love cooking. I don't eat out much but I adore cooking and baking and really enjoy doing this for others.
Oh and lately, perfume. I wasn't allowed to wear perfume in my marriage so now that I'm divorced, I've gone a little mad. Well, not mad but I'm really enjoying buying things that smell lovely and things that make me smell lovely.

peachie82 · 05/03/2026 19:09

My cat, she’s a Ragdoll and the most perfect, soft, amazing, clever creature ever to be created and worth every single penny.

Exhausteddog · 05/03/2026 19:09

I spend 75/month on a running coach. A man at my running club laughed at me and asked whatever for (the fact I had a coach, I didnt disclose their fee) But its given me back my motivation to exercise, to prioritise my own exercise and wellbeing, and made me believe in myself (as well as improve results at races!)

We also spend quite a ridiculous amount on sky TV mainly for football, golf and F1 who knew how many football games there were during the week!

Crumpets. Before you say they're not expensive, I'm not in the UK. I have to pay around £5 for a pack of 6 and a further £15 delivery charge. For crumpets.

Blimey, where are you? We could package up a whole box of crumpets for your freezer and (probably) post them for less than that!

You’ve painted such a beautiful picture I can well imagine the joy you get from your audible book. 💐

Howmanycatsistoomany · 05/03/2026 19:11

Horses, cats, chickens, and plants.
Had horses all my life, can't imagine a life without them.
Cats are all rescues and cost more to feed than the horses do!
The chickens are my DH's fault - he bought me an incubator for Christmas a couple of years ago. It's addictive.
And I have to buy a lot of plants to replace the ones the chickens destroy🤷‍♀️

catlife7 · 05/03/2026 19:11

Mostly one off stuff
£1800 on a root canal and crown I could have had under my dentist plan. I went elsewhere to be properly numbed and have a same day crown
£880 ish on a mattress

shellyleppard · 05/03/2026 19:13

Allseeingallknowing · 05/03/2026 19:13

Pllystyrene · 05/03/2026 19:14

Holidays, days out, weekends away. We lost a child in the family this year and I'm so incredibly grateful for the memories, pictures etc... Even before then the quality time with family and seeing the world through little eyes is priceless.

Proper Greek yogurt. I've had a lifetime of having to live very frugally and am still on a tiny income (pensioner) but I love yogurt and eat it every day. It's double the price of ordinary plain yogurt but it's so good! (Might not seem extravagant to most people but it's a real treat for me.)

Agree, I eat it every day too, it's amazing. Yeo Valley 5% fat for me, costs about £5 from Ocado for a big pot and I get through 2 a week, but so worth it.

Seasonofthesticks · 05/03/2026 19:14

Atkinsons coffee (if you know you know) freshly ground in store in front of me for my espresso machine
Good quality, proper olive oil

Lou670 · 05/03/2026 19:15

Probably my two dogs. Around £300 a month for food, insurance, vet plan and grooming! Worth every single penny though.

SonnyHoney · 05/03/2026 19:15

.A Gails muffin and earl grey tea twice a week

.Glass bottled water from waitrose

.Blow dry once a week, it costs £30 and it's the only time ai wash my hair, I feel so good afterwards. Im so terrible at doing my own hair.

.My gym membership which is at a nice hotel and costs £99

I spent many years being poor so feel so grateful to do these things.

Are we talking Warburton's? They're about £1 here. If you sent me a postage label, I'd send them to you!
