What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

clinique skin care and cosmetics. Reduced the cost of it with an eye on vinted but in reality, it is out of my price range. However, I scrimp and save in all other areas of grooming so I figure I can do it and enjoy!

If you get a Fire Stick you can get the Smart Tube app and watch YT with no ads ;) Takes a bit of fiddly setup but if you look it up there's instructions online. Game changer!

U mean u can watch it on your smart TV?

Travel. There may be less this year, as our annual travel insurance quote is £5,000 (not a typo!). I keep muttering ‘no pockets in a shroud’, but we don’t have limitless funds so compromises will need to be made.

I'm really pretty poor at the moment, so my extravagance is something that most people wouldn't even notice, but - my audible membership. An audio book every month is such a luxury; I run the books overnight to help me fall and stay asleep and it's like being read to all snuggled up in bed when you were a child.

So it's only about £8.99 per month, but it's money I can't really afford and yet...

Have you asked your local library if they have the Borrowbox app or similar?

NoNameNoOne · 05/03/2026 18:37

Botox. My mattress... No regrets

NotDarkGothicMama · 05/03/2026 18:37

Online grocery deliveries. It actually saves me a fortune on impulse buys though.

A high-quality diet for our four pedigree cats.

Oblivionnnnn · 05/03/2026 18:38

Just spent £900 on gear for my motorbike. No fucks at all, I am very very happy about it 😁

Cerialkiller · 05/03/2026 18:39

Kitchen tiles.

Everything else in the house is IKEA, second hand or bought in the sales or off temu. The tiles cost more then the rest of the kitchen. Hand made and glazed to order. I came up with my own colour selection and installed them myself. I do most of the cooking so they bring me pleasure everyday.

Royce wood studios in Derbyshire if you are wondering...

Writing group sessions. Bloody expensive and rising every year. But I've actually written a whole novel and onto the second and I've made a wonderful collection of friends who are as weird as me and seem actually interested in listening to me spout my story lore (fantasy) and i've got soo much out of it.

My annual holiday. Though it would be less extravagant if single supplements were not so punative.

Nice glasses £600 a pop! eye trouble so now don't care spending the money

I don't consider that extravagant. I have bells and whistles driving lenses and love them.

Flying Virgin Atlantic Upper (preferable) or BA Club Suite whenever we fly long haul (husband and teenage child). My holiday starts the day I travel, I want it to be as relaxed and comfortable as possible for all of us. The Virgin Upper Wing and Clubhouse are sensational and flying with them always a joy. I check prices everyday once we’re committed to the trip and buy when they’re really low. Using all the miles we accumulate flying with these two carriers, plus using their credit cards for extra miles, brings the price down considerably and we often get the biz class seats at the same rate economy would be if booked nearer the time. I need a bed long haul now, sitting for 8-12 hours is too painful.

A few years ago, my beloved dog's chemo drugs. Insurance wouldn't cover them and vet said PTS as they were so expensive (£350+) per month but they gave him 2 extra years of life and were worth ever single penny and every cutback I made to afford them. More recently, a family wedding, miles away in the middle of nowhere and I don't drive far, so, (after travelling short journeys in local taxis and fearing for my life), I decided to book a very posh car with chauffeur. It cost a fortune but I was able to enjoy the wedding without worrying whether the taxi would turn up and it was a wonderfully smooth journey!

Footwear from Fitflop. It’s the only brand my arthritic feet and ankles can handle and allow me to keep mobile. But I do wince at spending £70 on sandals! I do look for bargains on Vinted to assuage the guilt.

My husband thinks my alcohol marker problem will bankrupt us one day. They're the best for colouring!

Elle771 · 05/03/2026 18:56

Lurpak

AllaMova · 05/03/2026 18:56

Theatre and concert tickets. I have a few theatre shows booked for this year. They give my life purpose. ❤️

KindnessIsKey123 · 05/03/2026 18:57

We have the Car on a PCP or whatever it’s called & every few years we just swap it for a new model. Neither of us care, or want to care for the upkeep of an older broken down car. We just want to drive something which has good reliable technology and works. It’s overly expensive but it’s how we choose to live our life.

Lilac94 · 05/03/2026 19:00

Coffee beans. I spend £120 a month 😂

I buy loose gemstones just to look at them! Grin I get them out at look at them sparkle like a little goblin! My current favourite is a colour change sapphire.

Love this post! You sound like a cross between Smaug and Gollum!

HRTQueen · 05/03/2026 19:01

I buys books on kindle and audio to have both seems extravagant

Hollyhobbi · 05/03/2026 19:02

Takeaway coffee. I don’t drink alcohol due to meds and my general health or smoke.
