What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

Lurpak!

This made me LOL as I was about to say the same - and also bloody gravy granules - the price on them! Have you also noticed that your 500g Lurpak is now 400g but the price is the same - I’m fuming 😡

Marchitectmummy · 07/03/2026 02:04

I love fresh flowers but am dreadful at arranging them so we pay a local florist to once a week deliver and arrange flowers for us.

We also pay a chef to cook for us 3 nights per week, he comes with the ingredients cooks for our family and goes.

cornflakecrunchie · 07/03/2026 02:08

Cheese!
I got fed up with the usual Tesco selection & order lush cheeses which actually TASTE of cheese every month, delivered to my door. I get crazily excited at the thought of them coming!

I spent £140 on a duvet last month. (menopausal desperation).

My heart rate increased on the way to the till and I felt a bit sick paying for it.

Since I've had it home? Zero regrets.

Tell us more about this magical duvet!!

Retiredfromearlyyears · 07/03/2026 03:42

My wonderful 6ft. 'Riser/Recliner bed. It cost me thousands! But you cant put a price on decent sleep as you get older! I love it!

Lurpak!

I agree, and I'm a Kiwi!

Do you mind my asking how do you know what's coming up? Sounds very basic, I know, but I usually don't realise a band is playing until they've been and gone! I can't add myself to every band's mailing list!

All is not lost if sold out - register for Twickets so you can buy resale tickets. We’ve seen some sold out groups this way.

iloveeverykindofcat · 07/03/2026 05:27

I hate spending money. I don't buy anything extravangant for myself because I wouldn't enjoy it.

But. I rescued a cat a couple of years ago who it turns out is allergic to chicken and fish. As an exercise, try finding a complete, high quality cat food without chicken and fish. Then multiply the daily cost by 1.5 because she is a hyperactive 2 year old athlete who spends hours climbing, jumping and exploring outdoors. She is tiny, compact, pure hard muscle and there isn't a gram of fat on her.

At one point she was eating imported kangaroo from Germany. I'm serious. One day I was unpacking it and had a moment like "imagine explaining to an 18th C mill worker that my cat eats pure imported kangaroo meat from Germany".

After I've moved house I'm getting a sauna put in. And it the property is right for it, a wild swimming pond in the garden.

We managed to buy a house with the space to do this last year, but my husband is going to be diy-ing the pool as the starting price for contractors is more the our mortgage 😮 definitely also getting a wood fired sauna 😅

Great thread. I’m retired - have been for four years. Having never been able to really relax when away from my business I’m loving holidays. We travel abroad four to five times a year. Off to Barbados on Sunday! PE in the way out, business class on the way back.
Other than travel these are my treats:
Tickets to concerts, musicals, opera and ballet (rock music with husband, the rest with my daughter).
Mounjaro - have lost over two and a half stone. Down to a size twelve from a sixteen plus.
New clothes - new and. Vinted
Good shoes - sad Russell and Bromley taken over by Next. Also like Geox
Haircut and foils
Gym membership
Eating out
Waitrose and M&S food
Books and Spotify

bert3400 · 07/03/2026 05:37

Business Class travel on flights over 5 hours. I don't care, I can lie flat and sleep if I desire, arriving at my destination feeling fresh. Never having the anxiety of who I will be sitting next to . Enjoying the lounge and Fast track security. Worth every penny

Houndsahollering · 07/03/2026 06:29

Rise and Fall bed sheets - they just feel so beautiful against my skin I can’t even describe it 😂
A wool winter duvet - it’s heavenly!
A proper orthopaedic adjustable office chair for WFH (which I only do one day a week so could probably have survived without)
Hair cut and coloured regularly
Opal jewellery

About a grand on a latex mattress. Worth every single penny as I have arthritis in my spine and hips.

Meat from the butchers, sometimes equivalent to supermarket prices sometimes more expensive, but always far far better quality.

Did you find that your mattress took a while to 'soften'? I bought a latex one in September of last year and I only noticed last night that it's starting to feel more comfortable.

I spend stupid money on my perfume stockpile.

What perfumes to you have?

PersephoneParlormaid · 07/03/2026 06:42

Holidays. I’ve got two cruises booked this year, and I’m looking at adding another, and booking into next year. I love the ease of floating from one country to the next, it feels decadent to me.

luxury watches and custom backpacks / EDC gear.
No regrets, as both satisfy my collector and information magpie gene.

Also like molton brown shower gel so will spend on that, and good coffee.

Custom backpacks??? Please tell me more I am a backpack addict!

VictoriaSponge987 · 07/03/2026 07:29

Holidays. My kids are growing up and I have the most amazing memories of taking them around the world. We usually go skiing at least once, a big trip in the summer (we’ve been to Southeast Asia, the US, Costa Rica, safari, Germany for a month and many others) and then at least a week somewhere else with smaller breaks in between, sometimes mums/dads trips with friends and sometimes family. But we are frugal in our day to day life and work hard. We each buy extra parental/annual leave each year. Holidays are special - we spend proper family time together away from the distractions of work or maintaining the house. I will never get that time back with my kids and I always feel incredibly lucky to be able to spend that time with them and be able to afford it).

Roozkitty · 07/03/2026 07:35

Books, new ones from the bookshop. Yes, could use libraries or an e-reader, but I just love the smell and feel of a new book. As I read at least one a week, it adds up.

Aphroditesangel · 07/03/2026 07:39

I’m pretty low maintenance - have my hair cut at the barbers and wear clothes for years and years but I do love Ormonde Jayne perfume (taif) and I usually buy 2 good quality cashmere jumpers a year.

Appleseason · 07/03/2026 07:39

Botox. Worth every penny.

Jayne35 · 07/03/2026 07:43

Loads on holidays/weekend breaks/festivals for DH and I now that the children are adults with their own lives. I spend around £140 on jeans as I like a particular brand for comfort. Butcher's meat instead of supermarket and we also go out socialising alot (local bands). However I gave up getting nails done and dying hair (just an.occasional trim) so don't feel so bad spending on other things.

Thesummer · 07/03/2026 07:50

My Tesla (yes I know I will prob get flamed on here, no I don't support Elon Musk). Totally unnecessary and could have got something much cheaper but I love it so much.

Takeaway coffees.

£28 on swimming once a week. £30 on a cleaner once a fortnight. £40 on a gardener once a fortnight. £44 for a massage once a month. About £200 a year on theatre tickets and £100 on concert tickets, although that will reduce when I no longer have to pay to see/hear my grandson sing in the Cathedral choir performances! About £500 a year on haircuts and highlights. £40 every 2 months to get the windows cleaned.

As somebody who has always been very poor and is, at last, relatively comfortable, these all feel wildly extravagant to me!

Where do you swim that costs 28 gbp.a.visit?

Yes we love our Tesla too 😊
