What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

Haven't read the full thread, but Polish and East European cakes are really special. There are some I can buy fairly reasonably online, but I will happily pay lot for them.

Perhaps I should take advice from up thread and get some workout leggings too 🙂

Actually I think all of mine are food related. We eat out very rarely, never get takeaways etc so our food at home is excellent quality.

Organic everything if there's the option. Definitely things like flour, coffee, fruit and veg, dairy products, eggs etc.

Proper single origin, organic Greek olive oil with a recent harvest date. I don't care it's more expensive, it's excellent quality, good for us and many people would spend that money on a bottle of wine without a second thought.

Hu dark chocolate. £4 for a small bar but I buy one a week for our treat. Organic, fair trade and no palm oil or emulsifiers in it.

Zoe Daily 30......it is ridiculous really to spend approximately £30 a month on seeds and other plants to sprinkle on my food but it tastes good and makes me feel good. I know I could make it myself cheaper but I don't care..... I'm not going to be sourcing lion's mane mushroom powder or grinding up seaweed and baobab myself!

Agua De Madre fermented lemon, ginger and turmeric jars for adding to hot water or sparkling water. It seems expensive but I worked out is costing me about 50p a cup which I'm happy to spend on something delicious with health benefits.

Sorry not sorry! 🤣

Itsforthebest · 06/03/2026 08:07

I'm in the middle of a course of CACI jowl lift treatments. I'm also planning to get 4 microneedling sessions as well.

But I do feel guilty about spending the money!

LittleEmily · 06/03/2026 08:11

A motorbike. It's not important in my life.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 06/03/2026 08:14

We go away without the kids for the weekend semi regularly. It’s good for our relationship and that benefits the kids, also they get to hang out with fun grandad for the weekend and go crazy so a win for everyone.

Also sometimes if I’m really sad or in a bad mood I do the big shop at M&S.

Stompythedinosaur · 06/03/2026 08:15

I have so many animals! And they all get the best if everything. Coats a fortune and I regret nothing!

Imdunfer · 06/03/2026 08:15

Air conditioning in the lounge and bedroom.

Lilyhatesjaz · 06/03/2026 08:16

I am another person who has bad feet (bad bunions). I always buy hotter shoes and boots in extra wide as they are the only shoes that fit me. I don't see this as extravagance though. They are really good quality and last for years.

ThiagoJones · 06/03/2026 08:17

Tickets to events/experiences. I don’t buy much ‘stuff’, but if my kids (or I!) want to go to a particular concert, show or sports fixture for example I’ll do my best to get us tickets.

Treats high end, top-quality leads, new coats, fresh meat, the finest biscuits, monthly subscriptions to my personal physician, insurance to cover my health costs, spa treatments, brand-new beds and blankets, and plenty of new toys. Every holiday is centred around me as well.
There must be plenty of other things too, but I do feel slightly embarrassed about how extravagant my lifestyle sounds when I list it all out.
Love,
Rory the Norfolk Terrier.

You win the internet today, Rory! 🤣

My convertible sports car. I think nothing of just taking it out to play for the fun of it.

MmeWorthington · 06/03/2026 08:19

I am going to try Ortiz tuna now.

I am already buying only Waitrose sardines, the ones with the lemon, and the sardine artwork on the tin.

PermanentTemporary · 06/03/2026 08:19

Have thought of another: I spend quite a bit at the local village shop and the pub - they’re two of the major reasons we moved here so it’s damn well up to us to keep them going. I am quite passionate about supporting local businesses.

I’ve lost track of the other poster who wanted shoe info - I did another post explaining the shoes I wear. But it’s quite individual depending on the particular genetic fuckup that your feet are expressing (to be fair to my feet, they carry me without pain). I’ve had multiple brands recommended to me that are completely useless for my feet. The reason it’s in this thread though is that I eventually gave up trying to do shoes on the cheap, it was a false economy.

My daughter!
We sent her to private school, now she’s at university I send her SO much money, to ensure she has a great time there.
She doesn’t have to work, and can afford to shop in Waitrose.
I was raised in an incredibly abusive household, so making her life as lovely as possible (not just financially obviously) makes me very happy.
And she is a truly wonderful girl.

Love this 🥰🥰

We’re looking for a really good climbing frame, which brand is yours?

It's a growplay one. It's amazing and get used almost every day.

I buy loose gemstones just to look at them! Grin I get them out at look at them sparkle like a little goblin! My current favourite is a colour change sapphire.

Now that is a magical extravagance and I applaud you 👏💗

Air conditioning in the lounge and bedroom.

Are you in the UK? If so, was it expensive to install or to run, or both?

I would love a campervan. We've hired one before. I can fairly easily afford even a new one but I can't get past what the real cost of camping would therefore be!

Go for it. A brand new VW camper van was my husbands 50th birthday present to himself. I was totally against it, wasn’t into the idea at all, 5 years on I’m more enthusiastic about going away than he is.

Astrabees · 06/03/2026 08:44

lovely, lovely coffee from H.R. Higgins, nearly £80 for beans that only last us a month but better than coffee shop coffee.

Imdunfer · 06/03/2026 08:48

Womaninhouse17 · 06/03/2026 08:42

Are you in the UK? If so, was it expensive to install or to run, or both?

The bigger unit in the lounge was about £750 and the smaller one in the bedroom was about £400. My husband did the installation so no hoses out the window or installation costs.

We paid for expensive ones, Penguin, to keep the noise level down. We aren't allowed to attach anything to the outside of the house, so we needed free standing units.

The big one is roughly 18p an hour, the smaller one 16p

Yes I'm in the UK and am intolerant of heat (genetic condition), they are worth their weight in gold.

God, everything. I spend a lot of money. Picking out the things I feel no guilt at all about -

My hair. Had to cut the whole family’s hair for 12 years or so and hated it, so I love having hair that looks good now.

My cleaner.

My wedding. I’ve just spent 4 figures on my wedding dress, which is an evening dress rather than a classic wedding dress, and I probably love it about equally with my fiancé.

My shoes. I have apocalyptically bad feet. I now only buy two brands of shoe, my feet never hurt and I never have blisters. For the first 40 years of my life I assumed that all shoes were agony until they’d fallen to pieces.

PermenantTemporary What make of shoes do you get ? I dream of getting comfortable shoes

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 06/03/2026 08:51

About £450 a month on Reformer Pilates classes. It's over 3 times as much as my old gym membership but I love it. I'm in my sixties and I've always exercised and kept myself fit but I've never enjoyed any class or activity as much as I enjoy this. I'm stronger, leaner and more flexible than I was 20 years ago and my balance is improving - very important for an oldie like me.

@52andblue @Penelopeandherpitstop
I wear Hotter (wide fit, not very wide - not yet, anyway) or Saucony men’s trainers

In Hotter I wear Whisper ankle boots, their Mary Jane flats (can’t remember the name) and their multi strap sandals (think they are called Soleil, I have them in three colours). I have one pair of Hotter metallic closed toe one inch block heels that I can just about wear from car to bar, otherwise I never wear heels, or anything like ballet flats which leave me unable to walk. To be fair I do have one pair of Keen walking shoes as well.

None of this is glamorous but I’ve never had anyone scream in disgust at my shoes and I am COMFORTABLE.

Thank you @PermanentTemporary

I'm starting a new job soon and was shopping yesterday trying to find some work shoes but couldn't get anything. The job I'm currently in provides the full uniform so I haven't had to buy my own shoes for work before.

I couldn't find any and you've just reminded me about Hotter, I've just ordered 4 different pairs to try (ballet pump style) all in the clearance section under £40.

Bargain, thank you!

CuteOrangeElephant · 06/03/2026 08:57

I have a very nice automatic espresso machine (JURA E8), and I do spend on coffee beans.

We made the mistake of buying supermarket beans last week and they are foul compared to the usual quality we get, not doing that again!
