What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

Just being nosey to ask why you only visit your Mum 3 times a year?. We are all different but if my adult children only saw me 3 times a year I'd be so depressed.. l visit my sister once a month and she lives 200 miles away.. anyhow to answer your question.. people think im extravagant for flying abroad 8 times a year for a 5 day break.. although its always SC but l do get a villa with it's own pool. I eat out 3 times a week for late lunch/ early tea.
But to me this is just normal .. l think it all depends on our own money situation. I take ubers everywhere if not being driven by family members... even had far as 200 miles .. there and back.

Why is it only on adult children to visit parents? Why can’t able parents visit their children?

Do you never visit your children?

My Starbucks hot chocolate habit (3-5 times a week)
Holidays, most recently Mauritius and soon Maldives, with business class flights
Dyson hairdryer
Mac laptop (despite having never had an iPhone, I will only use Mac)

There are loads of magazines on Borrow box through my library, but reading online is just not the same as having a 'proper' magazine.

I agree . Same as a Kindle , great for travel but not the same as a new paperback at home . Mind you I’ve just ordered a new coloursoft kindle so that might make the reading experience more natural .

SexIsNotNebulous · 06/03/2026 07:23

The crumpets 😱

I would definitely learn to make them.

Myblueclematis · 06/03/2026 07:24

Having my feet looked after every 5 weeks or so and my hair highlighted three or four times a year and cut every 5 weeks.

Both are worth every penny.

UniquePinkSwan · 06/03/2026 07:26

Ribeye steaks. Lots and lots of them a month

Candles and flowers. Since my daughter died in October last year my only comfort is surrounding myself with fresh flowers and candles. I also take flowers to her grave each week. I think I am spending not less than £50 a week on candles and flowers.

This is a lovely way to honour your DD and spend time with your memories of her.

Treats high end, top-quality leads, new coats, fresh meat, the finest biscuits, monthly subscriptions to my personal physician, insurance to cover my health costs, spa treatments, brand-new beds and blankets, and plenty of new toys. Every holiday is centred around me as well.
There must be plenty of other things too, but I do feel slightly embarrassed about how extravagant my lifestyle sounds when I list it all out.
Love,
Rory the Norfolk Terrier.

Philip Kingsley shampoo and conditioner. It's about £75 for a one litre bottle of either, but the shampoo lasts about 14 months and the conditioner even longer.

Buy it from QVC . They often have PK as a Today’s Special Value and you’d get shampoo and conditioner for about £50 .

Meat - having grown up poor, on gristle and tinned meat, I like to spend more on good quality meat

Good.

I always like seeing extravagances that are a small salve for someone's childhood.

My dog eats tinned fish...I spend about £60 a month on it from Waitrose :).

Be careful , I was the same and he was eating meat aswell but got pancreatitis, the vet said tinned and fresh tuna and salmon is too fatty for dogs .

ThisHardyAnt · 06/03/2026 07:31

Our Campervan love it and go away at least twice a month, just for the weekend but now won’t be without it.

I think this is more carbon emitting extravagance than anything!

We have a giant climbing frame that is strong enough for adults to use and cost about £3k.

That is mostly for the dc though. I think the most extravagant thing I have bought myself is a bar of tonys chocaloney

We’re looking for a really good climbing frame, which brand is yours?

Organic food, better for us, tastes better, and better for the environment.

God, everything. I spend a lot of money. Picking out the things I feel no guilt at all about -

My hair. Had to cut the whole family’s hair for 12 years or so and hated it, so I love having hair that looks good now.

My cleaner.

My wedding. I’ve just spent 4 figures on my wedding dress, which is an evening dress rather than a classic wedding dress, and I probably love it about equally with my fiancé.

My shoes. I have apocalyptically bad feet. I now only buy two brands of shoe, my feet never hurt and I never have blisters. For the first 40 years of my life I assumed that all shoes were agony until they’d fallen to pieces.

Which brand of shoe please? I’m in agony most days!

Malbab · 06/03/2026 07:45

I read these posts with interest and live them all, it also struck me how many things now considered luxury were pretty standard when I was growing up, I am not from UK and remember milkman bringing fresh raw milk in a can hung on n his bicycle , meat always bought from local butchers , butter from the local dairy , there are specialist shops that sell coffee freshly ground and you can add chicory to your taste and make it bespoke, oil always bought from oil mill no petroleum refined there, magazines were delivered to house on a subscription basis, etc makes me thankful for the wonderful times and tad sad for younger people who never got to experience these , I am only in my forties !

I just want to acknowledge your beautiful daughter and to say my thoughts are with everyone who loves her. ❤️

Sidge · 06/03/2026 07:46

My lashes.

My own are beyond rubbish so I spend about £70 a month having angel lashes. They make me look normal (I don’t go for the pantomime cow look) as my own are very short, blonde, stubby and thin partly due to my RA meds.

I’d give up a lot of things before I gave up my lashes. Even though I moved half an hour away I still go back to my lash lady twice a month as she’s amazing, and so hilarious it’s like therapy seeing her. Worth every penny.

Jumping on the tinned fish thread but Costco do Ortiz tuna for £16 for 9 wee tins and it is the GOAT!! Once you’ve had it you can NEVER go back to the insipid shite we get in Asda etc. Elite ❤️

I totally agree with this. Ortiz is the only tuna I'll buy now. I'd rather have less of it, but excellent quality.

Minihippyme89 · 06/03/2026 07:51

Make up, I genuinely believe you get what you pay for.

Travelling. My daughter lives abroad so i spend a lot of money going to visit her.

LittlePrecious · 06/03/2026 07:58

I love all these! But gym, PT, fitness classes, good quality food I don't at all see as extravagant. They're an investment in health which is priceless.

They are an investment but when it uses a chunk of disposable income then it does fall into extravagance too for many. I will cut back elsewhere before I considering cutting back on the gym stuff but it does cost me a lot compared to income.
