What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

Monthly massages, high-end skin care products, Thermomix, eating out once or twice a week, regular cleaner

I spend a decent amount of money on a really expensive facial SPF. Its the most expensive thing that I buy for myself but it means that I use it which is important.

Blueink · 06/03/2026 01:33

Anything which relates to day to day health, main splurges are

Gym membership because the facilities are good but mainly because it's a friendly supportive community

Good quality food and ingredients

Otherwise

Art and music - if it's something I'm really interested in

Dear God, this.

A rail replacement bus is a horror story in three words.

I hadn't been on one for years, the 'replacement bus' was a luxury coach and was very surprised to enjoy meandering through the countryside on it!

elliejjtiny · 06/03/2026 01:59

We have a giant climbing frame that is strong enough for adults to use and cost about £3k.

That is mostly for the dc though. I think the most extravagant thing I have bought myself is a bar of tonys chocaloney

The two kinds I know about are Transitions Drivewear which is the less expensive option and what I have. they are basically fast change photochromics which change even when the light comes through glass. you can get other coatings including an excellent anti glare coating which has really helped me with night driving. I only need glasses for driving and am very pleased with these. My sis who wears glasses all the time prefers Zeiss lenses. Their version is called DriveSafe Transitions and you can maybe have thinned lenses, depends on your prescription, if you want them. Boots stock Zeiss, you really need a stockist for either choice rather than someone who can order them but doesn't supply them often, they are an expensive purchase and you want to get the add ons right. I really hope this helps.

Thanks so much, going to digest this

Good decent shoes (have feet problems so its important I have shoes that fit my feet perfectly and cheap shoes don't cut the mustard)
Kitchenaid mixer
Le Cruest pot and frypan - got my on special years ago and use them every day - still as good as new. I had to cook at my mums house last week and she has cheap nasty pots that have buckled and don't sit nicely on the element, was a complete nightmare and food took twice as long to cook!
A very expensive Deadly Ponies laptop bag - I'm fairly rough on bags and I use it every day for my work laptop, got it 5 years ago and is still good as new. My workmate got one from temu a few months ago and hers is already falling apart.
Nice wine
Lush perfume and aesop hand cream. Worth every penny!
Crystals and essential oils
Proper leather jacket (Expensive but lasts and lasts)
Proper waterproof coats
Sheets that are 500 tog - Hate the thin ones
Nice tea bags
A classic headboard for my bed - so lovely to look at

A ludicrously expensive professional photo package from a lingerie shoot. I know all you naice MNers think it’s tacky and I don’t care. I’m a naice MNer, for the most part. I buy my meat from the butchers, have high thread count bedding and cashmere socks. And I STILL love my lingerie shots. I’m considering buying a garden cabin that’s out of bounds for the children (and possibly my partner!) so I can hang the big canvases up.

Have you tried this one? It's v nice

My expensive spend is a one-off. I bought a vintage Vivienne Westwood dress. I honestly don't know when I will ever wear it, but now and then I take it out of the wardrobe and gloat over it. Sometimes I even try it on, it looks amazing!

I never spend more tha a few bob on clothes, usually discounted from already low prices, so I'm not sure what came over me. Actually, I do. It was accidentally dipping into the MN style section and being seduced by a few posts there.

Wear the dress - life's too short to wait for the perfect occasion.

Mine is probably Hello Skin face masks. They're £18 each but afterwards my skin feels as good as if I've been for a facial.

Shoxfordian · 06/03/2026 05:08

I bought a bean to cup delonghi cappuccino machine during covid, was about 500 and I use it all the time

My cleaner.

I work full time (plus addition evening hours in busy spells), sole parent to two small children, and have pretty much constant anaemia tiredness.
I adore my cleaner, she's worth every penny and then some. I breathe a sigh of relief each week when she's been and its my most relaxing day of the week 😎

@Eileen101 same here, 2 kids, single parent. I spend 75 a week for mine for 5hrs. I hate how my home feels when she hasnt been for a week or so!

@Notgoingononlyfansyet I actually did this when I turned 30 (im nearly 50 now) Well worth it, i haven't put it all up but I can see i looked fabulous then!

Loobylu66 · 06/03/2026 05:15

Clarins, I use everything from skin care, body care to makeup so spend quite a bit regularly.
M&S Food
Other than that not much else, although as I keep dropping dress sizes since August (down from a 24 to 14/16 depending on where I buy) I have spent a small fortune on clothing

QueenRainbow · 06/03/2026 05:21

Oooooo what a great thread!
mine are not as pricey as some but still an extravagance for me.
1- Fortnum and Mason tea bags (so good I have tried so many and always go back to these, Queen Anne and Royal Blend are my two favourites.) strong and full flavoured.
2- Leonidas chocolates. A proper tasting chocolate with no palm oil
3- Decent Ohuhu pens as I use colouring to help me with my MH and the cheaper pens aren’t great.
4- 2-4 new books a month. Joined the library but people don’t look after the books and I don’t want to touch/see other people’s mystery stains 😂. They are also often damaged.
That’s about it .

MifsBr0wn · 06/03/2026 05:33

I have a two cars. A Mercedes AMG convertible and a classic MG.

DH has always been tinned fish obsessed. It used to just be mackerel in tomato sauce.
A couple of Christmasses ago I noticed you could get some really nice imported ones so I bought him a hamper of them. Apparently tinned fish was the present of that year. I had no idea.
Anyway, he bloody loved the hamper. And now he has an expensive tinned fish habit.

Omg I love mackerel in tomato sauce and haven’t had it in ages! Thank you for reminding me!

MissAdvantage · 06/03/2026 05:42

£50 a month on coconut water

Ikeameatballlunch · 06/03/2026 05:52

Water rower - use it at least once a week. Instead of gym

red light eye things (for macular degeneration) which led to a red light mask. Do not regret at all!

Ikeameatballlunch · 06/03/2026 05:53

dark chocolate habit

Same here! It was a fortune but I'd do it again in a heartbeat as it was such an amazing experience for the two of us.

My only regret is that I wasn't a bigger Swiftie at the time, I have discovered so many more 'favourites' since. I can't believe how you can listen to an album of hers and find all these amazing tracks you'd never heard of but would rate in your top 20!

This is exactly what happened to me, so much so that I went to see her 3 more times and am now a bit obsessed, more than my daughter is 😳 definitely an extravagance but no regrets at all.

Makingadecision · 06/03/2026 06:01

Gardener for my small garden. Eating out a lot and coffees out . 5/6 holidays that involve a flight each year. But it makes me happy

@MrTiddlesTheCat you could try making crumpets?

Concert tickets. Taylor Swift, Oasis, Coldplay, Gaga, Ariana Grande, Harry Styles. Varying prices but it’s what I love to spend my money on!

Do you mind my asking how do you know what's coming up? Sounds very basic, I know, but I usually don't realise a band is playing until they've been and gone! I can't add myself to every band's mailing list!
