What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

Meat - having grown up poor, on gristle and tinned meat, I like to spend more on good quality meat

moggerhanger · 05/03/2026 22:40

£450 on a cotton canvas bell tent. I have several perfectly good nylon ones. But this one goes up like a dream, doesn't get clammy inside, and has candy-striped guy ropes. And I can stand up in it. Do I look like a twat putting it up at Scout camp? Undoubtedly. Do I care? Nope.

Crumpets. Before you say they're not expensive, I'm not in the UK. I have to pay around £5 for a pack of 6 and a further £15 delivery charge. For crumpets.

Cheaper to try making your own! Likely nicer too.

Jumping on the tinned fish thread but Costco do Ortiz tuna for £16 for 9 wee tins and it is the GOAT!! Once you’ve had it you can NEVER go back to the insipid shite we get in Asda etc. Elite ❤️

My, very low price in comparison to other heres, are organic oranges and carrots every week and organic celery if available , just to juice them Also a large deli sourdough loaf which I slice and freeze so delicious sourdough toast all week. Topped with some quality olive oil or butter.Bliss.

A hand carved superking, Jacobean - style, oak tester bed (ie. 4 poster with a wooden canopy roof rather than cloth). It cost silly money but we've slept in it for about 40 years. If you want one the company is still in business!

Football tickets and tv plans for football

Nice brands of alcohol. We drink very little so if I’m having a drink I want the good stuff.

Mine is definitely my garden I love having lots of flowers I can look at through the window. I do balance this up a bit by growing lots of soft fruit which would cost a fortune to buy.

Candles and flowers. Since my daughter died in October last year my only comfort is surrounding myself with fresh flowers and candles. I also take flowers to her grave each week. I think I am spending not less than £50 a week on candles and flowers.

I am so sorry for your loss. Whatever helps or comforts you, I'm so glad that you allow yourself to have it.

Basically anything that gives us more time.
so, a cleaner, a dog walker, a gardener, a window cleaner, take away every Friday,
lunch out during the weekend

See, you’ve had your moneys worth; I have a pal who spends a couple of hundred on a bed, but seems to have a new bed every year

Cojones · 05/03/2026 23:14

Books, I find it hard to walk out of a bookshop empty handed. I had to get a new bookcase for the books I’ve bought and not yet read. DP used to say I read too much but has given up with that.

My consoles because I enjoy playing video games.

And my three beautiful cats. I am normally all about the rescues and mostly mine have been, but I have seen a handsome pedigree boy may be joining us.

Concert tickets. Taylor Swift, Oasis, Coldplay, Gaga, Ariana Grande, Harry Styles. Varying prices but it’s what I love to spend my money on!

TheWibble · 05/03/2026 23:31

I inherited sone money and the first thing I bought was a £450 20 inch gold pendant chain. I've been buying gold vermeil ones every couple of years. They either break or the gold layer starts to wear off in places. I'm over the moon with it!

EconomyClassRockstar · 05/03/2026 23:42

Caviar. I really love caviar. I buy it at all price points and the cheapo one ($30 a jar) I put on top of food on a daily basis. Avocado toast, tuna bagel, pasta, whatever! It just makes everything taste better. I also love popping candy so apparently I'm just a big fan of things popping in my mouth!

Netcurtainnelly · 05/03/2026 23:44

Fillet Steak often.

I spent a fortune on tickets to see Taylor Swift at Wembley a couple of years ago. My DD’s still talk about it as one of the best days ever so I feel it was worth it.

I did the same! It was worth every penny. I’ll always remember being there with my daughter.

Same here! It was a fortune but I'd do it again in a heartbeat as it was such an amazing experience for the two of us.

My only regret is that I wasn't a bigger Swiftie at the time, I have discovered so many more 'favourites' since. I can't believe how you can listen to an album of hers and find all these amazing tracks you'd never heard of but would rate in your top 20!

mumwithallthebooks · 06/03/2026 00:03

Massages, facials and most of all plants/ bulbs/ anything for my garden!

Dear God, this.

A rail replacement bus is a horror story in three words.

Not always! I remember the one with icy cold air conditioning during the heatwave in 2018. That was a blissful 20 or so minutes. 😊

Anyway, buying the posh cereal bars (deliciously ella), nice tea (Twinings, Bird & Blend), nice chocolate (from M&S or Waitrose) and nice nail polish (Holo Taco, Zoya, Orly, ILNP.)

nam3c4ang3 · 06/03/2026 00:51

I have a stupidly expensive tap. And a ridiculous robot vacuum 🥴😂

OSTMusTisNT · 06/03/2026 00:58

Craft materials, just spent £45 on 140grams of wool this evening 😁. I will look at it admiringly and squish it several times a day for a few weeks then turn it into 2 rather expensive pairs of socks.

My little treat after earning £350 in overtime this month - I'll find a different but perfectly justifiable excuse next month!
